  • Quadriceps muscle shortening is a common issue in osteoarthritis patients. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects the cartilage, underlying bone, and surrounding tissues of a joint. In the case of knee osteoarthritis, the quadriceps muscles (located at the front of the thigh) play a crucial role in joint stability and function. However, due to pain, inflammation, and disuse associated with osteoarthritis, these muscles can become weakened and shortened over time.
Quadriceps shortening in osteoarthritis patients can lead to a range of negative consequences, including reduced joint range of motion, altered gait patterns, increased joint loading, and decreased functional ability. This muscle imbalance can further exacerbate joint degeneration and contribute to the progression of osteoarthritis.
