Yeah. My most popular content is from 4 years ago and still getting the bulk of views/watch time. While it's nice to know that good content can (sometimes) stand the test of time, it's also kind of depressing being a shadow of my former self.

I love the idea "focus on livestream as a secondary market to your brand"
This makes PERFECT sense. live streaming for 8-12hrs in a day does little for you. you can spend that time writing scripts, recording videos, social media posts, networking, story boarding.....the list goes on. Have event based live streams and polished videos. I think this is the future.

Ancillary and analogous are indeed words, although something being ancillary would mean it was connected to but supporting the first thing rather than completely separate. Maybe that's what you were going for though.
Thanks for this Devin. I made a 'failed start' at Twitch streaming and right now I'm rethinking how I want to do this. I think now I'm just going to focus on RUclips entirely including streaming here. I think another thing I found unmotivating is the editing process; I realise the need for evergreen content but editing is a means to an end for me and not something I can find passion in. Part of this is probably just getting through that early phase of learning where the process is more draining due to the fact that you're learning a new skill and videos take longer to make when you're basically a noob at the software involved. It's like I have the vision and there's probably a way to do it but my skills aren't adequate and that can be tiring. Your videos have reminded me that it's the right approach though even if I'm in a learning phase for now and it can only improve as I gain more ability.

The part about documenting the journey is so important and really resonated with me. I used to stream variety and wanted to commit to Overwatch but I was a low rated player. I decided to stop streaming for months and dedicate all my time to improving at the game because all the top streamers were high rated. When I finally got to GM I tried streaming again, lost all my viewers, and couldn't adapt to playing the game at a high level on stream while being entertaining. It was a disaster. That last point is too accurate. I started out streaming with makeup tutorials--didn't get a lot of traction. I then transitioned to doing ASMR (and with that I mean non-sexualized ASMR that actually gives value to people) which helps me grow in a variety of ways not only in viewers, followers, etc. but it goes back to that I'm learning new skills and learning about a new community I was never a part of before (which therefore keeps me motivated). I've really enjoyed the prevailing narrative the past few videos of "provide something of value". Here it is, "Be someone interesting". The last video was about selling yourself in a pitch. It's making me reflect on the ways I interact with the world. What value do I add in each scenario. Figure it out and then learn how to present that value in a way others find attractive. And if there isn't enough value learn how to add it. As I'm writing this I'm realizing it sounds a lot like treating myself as a product I am marketing to the world. I am not a content creator but I think that mindset can have positive applications in my life. Be it personal or professional relationships.

The last bit of knowledge that you gave about finding something to be passionate about, or stay a boring potato. That one hit different. Because you hear all the time from everyone "Make content elsewhere.".. "Diversify." Not to say that you saying it is bad; because it's just another voice telling us the truth; but I needed to hear that. Before watching, this is the best thumbnail+title choice you've made so far. It was a great idea removing the person out of it as sometimes it can add an unneeded layer of vagueness (for now it's the best way I can describe it). When you mention that "The Future of Livestreaming" was your most successful video on the channel, I had to pause a second. Currently, at 61k views and counting, that is a great success. Even though I can see the number of views your videos have, I still always watch thinking that they are in the 100's of thousands. The #1 hint I got from all those vids was to simulcast/multistream on as many platforms as possible. That got me a little community, because often people on platform X asked: "Are you on Y too?"
But: Still small, not really interested in numbers - Love my actual job and would never quit for streaming. - but also not keen to play all the time by myself. Maybe because my motivation to stream was:
    1. Playing (in the beginning) only offline/single player games, sometimes with my b/f, wasn't really entertaining. Or better: I always enjoyed stuff more with someone there, even if it was gaming on the couch and someone sitting there to chat.
    2. Doing cosplays for myself during lockdown was... lame.
    3. Watching so many streams that I just disliked. People spamming their affiliate stuff, always begging for subs and follows, torturing me and others with all kind of ads, while at the same time being boring or just sucked at the game. (My motivation to watch someone is mainly: Watching someone perform really good, to learn something, or watching someone who's entertaining, even if that person sucks at the game.) Or just being plain stupid. Always got the feeling, watching many (big) streamers: "Dude, I failed school. Twice. Because education sucks. Now I try to be Ninja!" And concerning women streaming: always wh*ring out/out for simp farming, so that in fact you are more a c*m girl than a streamer.
Doesn't mean that I never sold out at any point and looked for the numbers, means: playing games I didn't enjoy (anymore). Because: Wow, you got three figures watching your stream! You are #1 in that category! You even get offers from agencies (I turned down.) or directly from the publisher of that game. But... the game is so lame! And THEN I got unmotivated and sat in my stream like sleep streaming. Think the best thing I did was to quit that and got back to stream for sometimes not even 10 people, but I ENJOY what I do.
    P. S.: One thing you didn't mention: Your numbers getting messed up by drops. When drops are active, in that category you are streaming, f*ck everything. Really. During drops numbers are worth nothing. If I want them, I look for a 1) stream just started 2) being no affiliate 3) mute and 4) minimize it in the background. Everytime I peaked over 100 - 400 viewers it was... during drops. And then you are sitting there, 400 people "watching" you - and hardly two or three actually interacting with you. That feels even more wrong than having 4 or 5 viewers not saying anything, because then you get really motivated and excited - and no one cares. At all. Because you are just running muted in the background.
Best decision of my personal (mental health) streaming life: 1) f the numbers 2) f the game/content if it sucks.
    And ofc: 25:00 😅

8:30 Not only streamers on Twitch lack in growth. This goes especially to small RUclipsrs when they are having hard time to grow on RUclips. I saw RUclips decreasing the Subscribers of small RUclipsrs to adjust the algorithm.

It is a tough topic! A friend of mine tried live streaming and didn’t pursue it cause he didn’t have anyone to talk with. A big factor is to have a two way dialogue with someone in chat. For me, I personally enjoy talking to my friends on discord regardless of viewers. It’s important to keep a conversation rolling and keep things on going. Totally agree with your video!

You're a good dude who just wants to help people help themselves and have a different way of thinking. It's great to see that you really want people to be the best that they can be. We just need a little push and I think you're one of the people to be able to do that.

Just wanna make a rare comment from myself and let you know that I love your content. I'm a huge numbers guy in sports.. specifically baseball so following someone who likes crunching numbers and data and talks about it is always a good watch. Thanks for being you, Devin!

Thanks for calling me out, Devin. I stream to only 0-2 viewers because I’m lazy and possibly scared of seeing positive results in a loved space. I’m taking off the kid gloves now.

Watched the whole thing. Your content always relevant to the topic, which is relatively rare these days, people go on to talk about random stuff in their videos which are unrelated to the topic at hand. Your way of keeping the viewer engaged throughout the video is quite interesting too, which is definitely something to learn from.

Thank you very much Devin for the video, I watched the whole video, even got past "minute 25". Yes, the transformation is visible, I watched your old videos and it's amazing how much you've grown in terms of broadcasting skills.
I think the most important thing when you're creating a video or broadcasting is to tell a story, people love stories and if you hook them to that type of content you will never be without people that enjoy your content.
Wierd off-topic but thanks to you I want to learn digital marketing now, so thank you for that :).

I enjoy all of your content but this video was especially well done.
adding explanation and solutions to many of the common pitfalls within content creation was insightful,
As well as adding proper solutions with good rationale really solidified my perspective on a lot of these things.
P.S great call to action at 25 minutes you got an engagement out of me.
    Cheers.

Responding to the callout :) but also wanted to say that I have had this mentality about wanting to stream but realising it's not the step I need to be taking for my success. I love streaming even when I could do it for only 5-25 viewers, but if I want to grow I need to make the evergreen stuff. You and a few others have taught me this so thank you for that. I think it's very hard for people to detach from CCV because tons of the big names on Twitch consistently use that metric as the point of a joke or as a means of measuring their own success vocally on stream. It winds up reinforcing that mentality in prospective streamers of it's "importance".

Solid advice and content here Devin. Your recent videos have been getting my gears spinning to make a change. Much love.
Huge piece of advice for other casters: Watch your cast after the fact and be honest with yourself with how you feel about watching yourself. If you cringe at watching yourself, there's a reason why.
With that said, some definitely need to step back from streaming and create more scripted content elsewhere. Me included. Once you hit stop streaming, that cast/vod is mostly dead.

    25 minute gang!!!
I've put a few videos on RUclips, but they are basically rips from my stream with a little editing.
As far as being boring...yeah, I could see that. I've been wresting with the idea of making more videos for RUclips, but I feel like I'd need to get a little bit better with editing and such before I feel like I'll be able to tackle that.
    Great video as always!

The last point of this is definitely something to take on board.
I was doing the daily streams on Twitch for a while and all it really does is hurt you. Since then, I've stepped away and focused more on RUclips, and even there I'm only putting out videos when I feel that I've made something worthwhile to watch, working on themes and ideas and editing all has made me much more motivated to create content.
It's also allowed me to take some time and just throw together videos for my friends who are also content creators, which they all heavily appreciate.
Learn something that you wanna learn and show yourself being human and learning it.
