    I like making illusions look like ghosts since a creature’s attacks will go through ghosts like an illusion making it harder to tell if it’s an actual ghost or an illusion. I do like the classic illusionary bridge over a chasm trick.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Год назад +1

      With that kind of creativity you could do a lot, even just repeating the ghost trick kind of making it like an anime skill. You can do a lot of cool stuff and if you can draw an attack or 2 to your illusions it is well worth it.

    Sooo... Major Image. If you upcast this 3rd level spell with a 6th level spell slot it lasts until dispelled and doesn't require concentration. The 6th level Illusionist's feature Malleable Illusions let you keep changing the Major Image.
    At 14th level you can travel around with this permanent illusion and use Malleable Illusions to make pretty much anything you want or need. Guards are chasing you, just run down a nearby alley and create the illusion of a ladder leading up to the roof, then use Illusory Reality to make it real and climb up to the roof.
    Malleable Illusions again and make it a coin that you are flipping and always catching as you walk across the roof to the opposite side. Malleable Illusions again and it's a rope to climb down, Illusory Reality and you can make it real and climb down.
    You have a piece of reality that obeys your every whim (Malleable Illusions + Illusory Reality).
    Unlimited... POWER!!!

    Playing one right now. First off, I picked up Misty Visions for Silent Image as a cantrip. Then you throw it up and give your party a 15 ft wall of disadvantage against being hit. Super strong. Its like giving your entire party +5ac. I also like adding 5 or 6 people to my group at any time. Illusion a group of 5 thugs and you in the middle like the Mob Boss you are. lol Good stuff brother, love that sweater!

      Thank you! I love the concepts you came up with. I really hope people read this and take some inspiration from your ideas I love it! I think it could definitely work and feel really good in game.

    Okay, long story
    Preface
    1986 1st ed. Not illusionist characters, but illusion involved. 3 of the 6 people in this group were physics nerds who had done extensive thought experiments on the physics of spells. The party was sent to stop the harassment of a border village by orc mercenaries. The village was being extorted for their crops, and were to meet the villagers by a certain hill in two days.
    Main story
    The leader of the merge stands at the top of the hill making a long winded speech.
    The village elders form a cluster concealing the two mages in the party(levels 3&2) and the local hedge-mage(lv2) from the village. 30 seconds into the speech, the party leader shouts "enough!". the elders drop down. Hedge mage casts feathers fall on the leader, reducing his effective mass to about a gram(we did the math). 3rd level mage casts push with the leader being at a 45deg upward angle relative to him. The orcs watched in horror as their leader was flung by 30 foot-pounds of force about a mile and a half away, and a mile and a half above ground.
    The scream reached them a second after the little black dot plummeted to it's death. As the orcs were distracted, elders pop back up, and phantasmal force is cast.
    Leader of team shouts
    Oy!!!! Now that the you have your answer (points to elders who are gesturing their hands around what appears to be balls of elemental enerhy) who wants some?!
    The orcs ran screaming
    From that day forward, local or c bands and bandits stayed far away from the village believing it to be a den of wizards.

      28.135 grams in an ounce
      Times 16
      Times 30
      Expressed in feet
      13,504 feet
      Just over 2.5 miles.
      We allowed for wind resistance, and angle of ascent
      It's part of a school of magic we created called "tactical judo".
      Example:
      Rope trick doesn't have to go up.
      Hidey-hole!
      Hidden pit trap
      Etc

    • @tonyromasco1735
      @tonyromasco1735 Год назад +2

      It's also a great way to do the "mage catapult" thing. 200 pound rock drops from 2miles straight up...
      I'm not even sure how I'd calculate the damage?
      How many d6 are in a smoking crater??!?

    I am currently playing an illusionist wizard of 3rd level. My group of 5 is generally pretty lightweight having only one martial class, so I have been using an illusionary fog cloud to hide the casters and rogue within. They can see out without a problem since they are touching the illusion, but opponent creatures that cannot interact with it, cannot accurately target someone within the cloud. The opponents have disadvantage to strike at those within the cloud, while those inside have advantage to hit the opponents outside (since the enemy cannot see the strikes coming at them).

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Год назад

      Yeah they are unseen attackers. Which helps a lot at those early levels. That’s a really smart play! That’s a really great representation of what the wizard is and can do.

      You're talking about Minor Illusion or Silent Image?
      Because I strongly feel your DM Is allowing you to break a couple of rules here.

      @@WendellofIloilo Got It, so here's my issue:
      "Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it. [...] If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the creature can see through the image."
      As your companions will pass through the mist without interacting with it, any enemy witnessing this will understand it's an illusion and Will be able to see through it. Reasonably, even an arrow through it May reveal it's an illusion 🤔

      @WendellofIloilo 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@marinomele4575 The 15’ foot by 15’ foot square is normally cast around part of the group, so moving in and out is not usual by them. The part members are thus interacting with the illusion at the beginning and consequently know it is an illusion. The opponents I have used this cloud on have generally been of animal intelligence, and what they don’t see, they don’t become aggressive towards, meaning arrows coming from the fog cloud are mostly ignored if they have a party member target or two to attack outside the cloud.

    In my opinion I'm more interested in the illusionist rather than the conjurist mostly because it's not as creativity required as the conjuration wizard but it's still pretty creativity required though and in my opinion any class/subclass that gives you and focuses on any enchantment spells and/or illusion spells is absolutely amazing for a fey inspired character and the illusionist is an excellent example of this pretty much any fey race works with this subclass thematically and there's just so many character concepts flying around my head at rapid speeds but again you do need a good level of creativity to use this effectively and I'm more than willing to give this a shot

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  6 месяцев назад +1

      You really need a dm that’s willing to work with you. Having great ideas with illusions just hurts when a dm just shuts it down or disregards it. The fey absolutely falls into play with enchantment and illusions. I agree 100%

    You cannot use malleable illusion on Disguise Self as it only has a casting time of 1 action.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Год назад +3

      That has no bearing on malleable illusion. Malleable illusion just requires a duration longer than 1 minute, which disguise self has a duration of 1 hour.

    You need to do more homework, friend. You can't make an illusion of a creature dipping around a corner because you can't make a creature, AND your image can't move from the square you create it in. Consider taking eldritch adept for silent image at will combined with your minor illusion to make this effect 😮
