Tip from a nurse assistant: if you get pepper spray wash it out with coconut oil, and saline solution. Water does NOT get rid of all micro traces of the substance.

@@WideAwakeHuman it's illegal in Germany's neighbour the Netherlands as well, honestly I'd probably spray deodorant in their eyes or like put a key inbetween my knuckles or just run. But also you have to remember that the Netherlands and Germany are much safer than countries like the US. Pepperspray isn't allowed bc it's sole purpose is as a weapon and you aren't allowed to carry weapons, it's similar to how yes you are allowed to defend yourself, but not to excess.
Knives are better. Some people are just immune to pepper spray, it also goes everywhere. So if you're going to rely on it, buy 2 and practice in a field(stand up-wind) so you know what it's like. It's going to get on you too, especially if someone is grabbing you.
PS is definitely better than a taser though.

My uncle who is a cop always gave the trainees this advice for going in the shower. He says to always get some milk the day before and put it in the fridge. First put on a cheap shirt you can throw away. When u get home cut it of you so you don’t have to rub it against your face while removing it because there is still pepperspray on that shirt. Then take that milk and over the bath tub or in the shower lean over it also use a towel around your chest (or under however low you’ve been sprayed) so nothing will run down you body . Just let it go down the drain and make sure you thoroughly clean your shoulders,neck, face and hair. You then in the exact same way wash those areas but now with water, shampoo and liquid body wash. Only then do you get under the shower and take a normal shower. The milk you see neutralizes the part that makes pepperspray sting that bad. This way he says almost none of the trainees have the shower issue.

See I have both weapons pepper spray is kind of good to have around if your just going to be outside but I really think the stun gun is more effective depending on the voltage it can knock the attacker on his knees and still stop him in his track.
The goal of the stun gun and pepper spray is to get the attacker to stop attacking you long enough for you to run away.
I wouldn't recommend fighting this attacker if you don't have to because with a stun gun you can shoot from a short distance too and if men don't want these sort of things happening to them anymore then walk away if a woman asks you to leave her alone.
Some of us don't want strange men we've never met trying touch us. That's the entire reason we buy these items is because we don't want to fight men and we shouldn't have to go into a war mode just to go run an errand or pay a bill.

My uncle had the same issue, he got sprayed and thought he handled it really well overall. Everyone was giving him crap saying “just wait just wait” and once he got home and showered everything became clear to him what they meant

They should've told you not to shower for 24 hours. When I got OC sprayed in the Navy, we were given specific instructions to follow for the weekend. I wasnt allowed to drive for 24 hours, we had to buy baby soap, do a physical, and weren't allowed to shower afterwards. We had to sign consent forms lol
I’m in the Navy and they did not do that for us 😂 we went to a frocking ceremony right after while it was raining and then they sent us home DRIVING within an hour

A friend in military said pepper spray was horrible, but worse was being gassed. He had to put on a gas mask and then is put in a room that fills with gas and you have to not panic and take your mask off. He said the fear and urge to take the mask off was overwhelming and he understood why they gas them.
No getting gassed isn’t that bad. I’ve gotten gassed annually and it’s not that bad. It’ll clear up any sinuses you have that’s for sure lol. Pepper sprayed is very very painful. I’d rather get gassed or taxed any day over pepper sprayed.

It depends on what strength you have. If you have military grade pepper spray then you're good but if you just have random pepper spray then it might not do you any good because men have a higher tolerance to it than women

Milk, the solution is milk, baby shampoo or any antiacid.
And when there’s tear gas in the air, get as low as you can near grass if possible.
When I was in my country army we would have basically vats of milk to dunk our heads in when we where doing shit with tear gas and stuff. That was over a decade ago dont known what they do now
Milk is a base and pepperspray is an acid. They dont mix and so it wont help remove it ;)

As a former inmate, i was told by another inmate "shower with your front facing the direction of the water, and tilt your head so you are looking at the ceiling."
This prevents activation from happening on front side (i am a male, so my senistive area is smaller than a females senitive areas)
Maybe this will help someone out there. Officers only need to experience it once, so many of them can know the secret, but not tell anybody they pepper spray in the future.

My husband has been pepper sprayed several times (he worked different security companies, and each time he did a new training, he had to get pepper sprayed again). He said once you're so used to it, you have longer to fight back before it kicks in.

When I went through Correctional Office training, tear gas was way worse and more painful than pepper spray. Pepper spray was a piece of cake for me. It's also great to learn to get used to carrying out around as one piece of protection. Tear gas, on the other hand, gets into your eyes and lungs when you have to learn to go without a mask. We had to learn to walk and get our crew out of harm's way when there was live year gas set by the dozens and under our noses. I'm glad I learned how to handle this for if there ever is an emergency situation in the public at unexpected times, I'm prepared how to help my family.
You must have incredible pain tolerance if pepper spray was a walk in the park. I’ve never been pepper sprayed but I got jalapeño in my eyes and if stung like a bitch. Can’t imagine pepper spray. Props to you though for going through both!

When I used to work at McDonald’s as a teen I once accidentally got powdered onions in my eyes. I semi washed them out at work, and didn’t think much about it.
When I got home and showered my eyes began to burn and I smelled more onions then the normal day.
Soon I started to pull onion strings out of my eyes, and it felt like spider webs wrapped around my eyeballs cutting into them.
I had eye issues for years after that…

@@myyou7335 and have all of that in the water with you? Tubs are not meant to clean because you are sitting in the filthy water the whole time. And washing separately doesn't stop the pepper spray from washing down onto your body and burning that.
When I was in the academy for corrections we got pepper sprayed. I went home and poured a bowl of milk and wiped my face down with it. Worked great. However my car still had residue so my hands and my right thigh kept getting burned for like two weeks afterward.

I was in a law enforcement class in high school, the teacher (who was an active cop) decided he wanted to demonstrate how bad pepper spray is. He asked if it was OK, we stupidly said yes. He spray it in a box that he had put a plastic bag in and put in far corner.
It cleared the room within like 15 minutes and we had to open a window.
I'm definitely going to buy pepper spray now.
Fun fact the stuff u buy at Walmart or that’s out in the public isn’t even the worst kind. It’s like 5% and the ones the police uses are ten times that. In my class we used the police kind and I had a handful of people in my class that weren’t phased at all. If u get it try not to just spray them in the eyes get them in the mouth as well. They’ll be standing there vomiting for 30 min

My mom used to be a JCO and one of her co-workers sprayed a kid. My mom happened to run through the spray after, getting it on her.
When she came home that day, I had hugged her before she could tell me not to. And yet, despite how indirect the contact was, I looked like an overripe tomato and I struggled to breathe after accidentally smelling her.
I would probably drop dead if I was peppersprayed.
I also accidentally got P.S. banned at my old school because some dumbass dude stole a girl's P.S. and sprayed the halls and I had absolutely refused to go near that hallway and I had to inform the principal I could not be down that hall.
And it was swiftly banned. So, uh. To all the girls that go to work immediately after school, I'm so sorry.

@@hugon6717 I think in the Navy, they would have been prepared for the possibility and had staff on hand to help you if you had a reaction. I'm unsure how one would know if they were allergic other than coming into contact with it, but in general if you have breathing or lung issues, it's safest to stay away and assume it wouldn't treat you well.

When i was 12 at a boyscout meeting my friend had a tiny pepper spray, i had a bic. We found out that pepper spray is a mini flamethrower. We also found out the residual mist in the air is dangerous and painful.
They used to use isopropyl as the base in pepper spray. They're water-based now for the reason you mentioned.

Average Self Defense spray is about 1M SHU and Law Enforcement OC Spray is 2M SHU. But yeah Bear spray is slightly stronger at 3M SHU, honestly 2M is plenty as long as you hit the eyes.

I agree completely. Being tasered is actually fun and very interesting and then its done as soon as it's over. Maybe some sore muscles but otherwise fine. OC spray will burn for hours, not 48 but still a long time.

Cs gas during training is weak as fuck and I have personally eaten 20 minutes in a cs gassed dorm, with no A/C and no outside air coming in, all in Texas summer heat cooked open dorm gym with 58 men.
The cops who gassed us experienced what it was like to break the seal on their gas masks and then answer questions while performing simple tasks like flailing arms in an attempt to punch a 3'x3' mat & make their way outside to fresh air and a water hose
I know that when it was all said and done, the entire dorm was covered in a bright green powder after 2 gas grenades were deployed (about 20 minutes later)
We were then getting zip tied and placed in the direct sunlight where we sat for 3 hours in a human chain, while the entire dorm was stripped of all personal belongings and bedrolls.
Maybe cops wouldn't make it this far in the comments to see how people react to other comments, and maybe this tip helped out someone a little less fortunate.
The legal system should be non profit and ran strictly by vetted citizens who actually care about the feelings of others& should not be tax exempt free labour

I got hitted with it one time, I was fast enough to cover my eyes and mounth and knock the guy out, but my t-shirt got so sokead with it.
It was painfull, it felt like my skin on my chest was burning, for hours to come, and that was only from not direct contact with t-shirt, and I wasn't hitted in the face, tho I inhaled some air around

Number one tip when getting OC sprayed is to never ever attempt to take a regular shower right after getting sprayed. The best thing you can do for yourself is wash your head/hair by dunking under the shower or bath tub and use baby shampoo, dish soap, or some other wash that is NOT oil-based. Oleoresin capsicum is an oil. You will not remove oil with oil. You will come out still covered in OC spray like the tupperware bowl you microwaved spaghetti in and is still to this day orange.

To remove fats / oil you can either use solutions with detergents/surfactants or oil based solutions, since oils are soluble in oils/fats and not in water. Or you can say oils / fats are generally soluble in anything with a long carbon chain.
If you eat a chili for example, a good way to remove the capsaicin (oil) is to consume anything with fat or oil. Usually people drink milk for this purpose.

This is my biggest fear for some reason, I have terrible eye situation, I have ring implants inside my eyes and wear two different types of contact on top of that just so my vision can be somewhat normal. It’s not very comfortable as is but getting pepper spray in my eye might truly lead to horrific complications for my eyes.

Baby shampoo helps 1000 percent. If ever wrongfully pepper sparyed. Wipe your face with water and baby shampoo clean towel. It will help. Take off all clothing because its contaminated with pepper spray shower baby shampoo in face.

I was in the police academy and went through to get OC spray certified, it’s not just getting sprayed but you to go through the physical course while being sprayed to get the certificate. It was brutal lol Some people just react differently, we had some of the biggest guys take it like average, just enough pain to make it unpleasant, we had the smallest girl not have a reaction at all, I personally had one of the worst reactions because like a dumbass I didn’t follow one of the major warnings which was don’t inhale deeply, it gets into your eyes, your nose, that’s bad enough but when it gets to the back of your throat is when your fucked, every time you breath in you feel like your breathing in fire, so your body starts hyperventilating, I almost passed out from it and was panicking because I didn’t want to fail lol shit was embarrassing, and it still on occasion reactivated from time to time for a week straight. Since we still had morning and evening PT so the sweat just made it all burn again, and our chief or instructor would just laugh and scream “DONT YOU FUCKING STOP RUNNING, I BETTER NOT SEE ANY OF YOU FUCKING STOP, IF I SEE A SINGLE TEAR THATS ANOTHER 100 PUSH UPS!”

A trick when dealing with being pepper sprayed or cs gased in general is afterwards you should take off your clothes as soon as you get inside your home (to avoid spreading it to the rest of your house) and use a rag that you can throw away after to wash yourself using cold water first and slowly introducing warm water back after a day or two.
Also remember those plastic Walmart bags are your friend when throwing away the old rags. Finally and most importantly of all wash your clothes at a laundry mat separate from your other clothes.
