    Dr greger just thank you. Been vegan four months, my wife showed me your work and speeches andbbougt me your book. At first I was scaredbcause I though diet would be expensive, where poor Hispanics but somehow with gods help we made the healthy change back to our natural diet from the islands before we moved to the states, Which high in tropical fruits, potatoes, beans corn, ground vegetables, a lot of rice and added flax and stuff and it's been amazing. I went from 270 down to 240 in 4 months slowly but eat in a lot my kids haven't got sick since. It's not expensive at all. Whenever we can't afford the soy milks for the kids, we give them multi and there fine. My wife has had trouble with vitD since we left the island so she always been weak and tired and sad all the time. I see her smile now. And her vitd is getting better, I think its cause she try to go outside more now with kids, but still takes vitd from doctor. She loosing slower but she said she doesn't care. If your message can reach us, then you can reach anyone. Plz don't stop what you doing ok just don't stop. Thanks

    I was recently asked "if you could only show a non-vegan one video to encourage them to explore veganism, which would it be?" I said Forks Over Knives, others said Conspiracy, some said Earthlings. If I'd seen this then, I think I would have answers with this video. The animals suffer immensely, but not everyone's ready for that. The environment is vital to all life, but not everyone can accept that. But tell someone who much healthier they're gonna be and they'll live longer and better (I get less pain and need less insulin now after two months of plant-based) and it appeals to their self-preservation and can provide a great "in" to get them thinking about it. The rest can follow from that, but I think once a person is invested in the diet for themselves, they can get used to that, and from there they can get to exploring the more "lifestyle" side of it, regarding the ethics and environmentalism. Stellar lecture, Dr Greger, damn stellar.

    • @victoriahart1630
      @victoriahart1630 3 месяца назад

      I understand where you're coming from. Greger makes excellent points throughout. That said, whole food plant-based eating isn't the same as veganism... which is based on values and practices that are in harmony with its authentic definition. I cringe seeing vegans blur the lines between the two while doing outreach.
      In my 35+ years of being vegan, I've seen much ignorance about what authentic veganism is and is not. There's really no excuse for this.
      The word "vegan" was coined by members of the Vegan Society (UK) in the late 1940s and was heavily influenced by Albert Schweitzer's writings on Reverence for Life. The definition still stands today and is as follows:
      "Veganism is a way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence and compassion for all life. It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives, and encourages the use of alternatives for all commodities derived wholly or in part from animals.
      Veganism remembers man's responsibilities to the earth and its resources and seeks to bring about a healthy soil and plant kingdom and a proper use of the materials of the earth."
      Vegan... for life. ✌🏻❤

      @@victoriahart1630 "Veganism is a way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence and compassion for all life." Completely farcical. That is the sort of rich, self-righteous imagination that is perfect for deceptive persuasion in social media and college classrooms for immature idealists lacking sufficient skepticism and intellectual rigor to analyze the claims. I am especially entertained by the vegans making their case in classrooms after having driven their car or ridden a bus that killed untold numbers of small animals on their way to claim the above, especially if it is in the warm season. They probably even did their laundry beforehand.

    • @victoriahart1630
      @victoriahart1630 3 месяца назад

      Is that the best argument you can make? That vegans are rich, self-righteous hypocrites who leave a long trail of blood and guts from hapless, innocent critters they've run down in the road whilst going from point A to point B? What an absurdity! The basic premise of the “all or nothing” argument is this: If exploitation, violence or suffering exists somewhere in the world, and you are directly or indirectly involved, then screw it, you might as well just accept it all and enjoy its spoils. The fact that it exists justifies causing suffering and harm to others, because no matter what you do in life, you will hurt something, somewhere, either emotionally or physically.
      This “all or nothing” argument, in opposition to veganism - that we hear from adults such as yourself (?) - demonstrates that the education system is failing very badly in its job of teaching critical thinking skills. How sad that we humans live in a society where so many people can assert this argument and actually believe that it stands as credible opposition to wanting to reduce unnecessary suffering in the world.
      At its heart, veganism is about doing the least harm possible. Since every vegan is an individual with their own set of unique circumstances -- such as having a financial advantage/disadvantage or perhaps lacking a good support system -- they will each be at a different place on the path of doing the least harm possible. It would be unwise to expect anything different,... yet you are doing exactly that.
      Currently, this world is mostly non-vegan, set up to make it nearly impossible for a person holding vegan values and principles to entirely avoid falling into hypocrisy at some point. That's understandable. But what excuse do YOU have for your own hypocrisy? When asked, most people claim to be against animal cruelty for selfish pleasure or profit, yet their everyday actions don't match their claim. Are you one of these people?

    Hello from Ireland and thank you so much Dr Greger, your videos have changed my life, and that of my family's. Overnight my brother and I changed our diets from having eggs, meat, milk and cheese on a daily basis to a completely plant based diet. We are now vegans since March 2016, are so much healthier, happier, and have so much more energy than before. We have since convinced our mother to switch to a plant-based diet, and are spreading the message (and directing to your videos) to all willing to listen. I have read your book and still watch a lot of your videos to educate myself on the most recent findings. Keep up the brilliant work and thank you so much again!

    This presentation did it for me. It was not only the story of his mother recovering by changing her diet, but it was the studies that included slides of the resulting cancer cells dying. I've been studying diet for several years, and have not been able to give up meat. I'm currently eating bison and elk. No factory food. But I can finally see for myself what's best for me, through the studies you've presented. I used to say that we had canine teeth for a reason, and satisfy myself I was ok. And I was a good friend of Nathan Pritikin's son back in the 70's. And I used to work in a cardiac cath lab. I should have known better. What took me so long? I guess I needed to see the studies with my own eyes. I haven't been able to fully kick the remaining fatigue I've been fighting for 15 years. I did a little more research, and happened upon this video. Now I can help others. Thanks.

      He cherry picks Uganda, but the Top 3 countries for CHD are France, Japan and South Korea. All eat meat, and all are quite different. It's not the removal of meat, fats or carbs that leads to better heart health, it's the removal of processed foods.

    People seem to think themselves invulnerable these days, or have the attitude that life is short anyway. But they don't realize the suffering that comes with ill health due to poor lifestyle choices. You can very well end up like my grandmother, suffering from diabetes and dementia, wishing for death. She thought she was doing right, taking her medicine like the doctors told her, but no doctor would tell her to change her diet. In the end, none of the medication mattered. It saddens me to see people on blood cholesterol medication, or medication for high blood pressure and then blindly thinking they will be fine. Like they can take their meds and eat all the meat and dairy they want.. Smh.. If only the saw what I've seen. I've lost friends in their 20s from heart attacks.. And they thought everything was fine too..

      Some doctors actually do tell patients to change their diets but most people simply don't want to give up their addictions and it is hard to do as they are addictions (to sugar, bad fat, salt).. its hard to change too if you live with someone that also doesn't want to change their diet. Some people simply don't believe that diet really makes a serious difference so they ignore advice to change their diet. Its the fingers in the ears and la, la, la, la response. Or they foolishly think those pills will "fix it" so they can keep their addictions.. I grew up on a farm.. all that good healthy food, right??? my father died in his mid-50s from the streaks, bacon, pork chops, butter, cream, cheese that was mostly from what we grew.. and he smoked.. doctor told him to change after his first heart attack, he didn't & died 2 years later. I became a vegetarian when I was a child cuz I couldn't eat my "pets".. that didn't bother the rest of my family tho..

    Thank you for all your hard work. You really are inspiring.
    I’m going to try this way of life because my cholesterol levels are (and always were) way out of control and I really don’t want to take the prescribed medication with all those horrible side effects. Also, I’m going to try this to encourage my father to follow me in this path. He suffers from emphysema and his arteries are clogging according to his last tomography. He’s having a hard time breathing normally. The thing is, he’s 65 a heavy meat eater and kind of stubborn... But I’m going to do my best because I want him to live. Hopefully I’ll succeed and he’ll have a longer and better quality of life.
    Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

    My father didn't even make it to 65 like your grandmother. He had his first massive heart attack at age 47 and died at 62 with his second. After a quintuple bypass and years of angina. The irony being he was reading Dr. Ornish's book when he died. If he had only read it in his 40's.
