Shelly is obviously a very intelligent, intuitive, insightful, and deeply feeling person. Her conversation and rendition of so many stories are riveting and I could listen to her for hours.
I could listen to her for hours...I always loved how she was a bit "scattered" while she was talking....she was riveting...I bet she was fun to sit and have drinks with....Beautiful lady and so much talent...they don't make them like this anymore.
That was a gem of an interview - literally sparkling. Shelley Winters is rarely put in the company of the top leading ladies of her era, but her body of work easily surpasses the vast majority of them, indelible performances remaining instantly accessible to this day, in some of the greatest classic films of all time. Not to mention what was perhaps her most beloved performance of all - herself! 100% genuine person. Growing up in the Hollywood area, I encountered Shelley a few times when I was younger, usually holding court at a restaurant or event, but the best was on a high school theater trip to NYC, where a tour of the Actors Studio serendipitously ended with the 12 of us surrounding Shelley (at her insistence) as she simultaneously directed a play rehearsal and attempted to learn how to play a hand-held video football game (a modern wonder in 1979) one of us happened to have, which she got into with such enthusiastic glee that her actors had no choice but to drop the play and come join the fun. Shelley Winters loved her work, but never more than life. xox.
Thanks for sharing! And you're so right about Shelley. She was amazing in "Patch of Blue", "Lolita" and on.. Such a deep vulnerability within her that made you love her.
I just adored her. She never put on any airs, as they used to say. I read her books and watched all her movies. A Patch of Blue has always been my favorite. She was evil in it but she tore it up! Class act who was sooo beautiful and REAL!!!

thats terrible to learn that Susan Strasberg turned down the movie of Anne Frank. Not only would she have been great in it(like she was on stage) but it might have made her a bigger star. She had a promising career but it didn't work out. I used to believe George Stevens didnt want her cause he thought she was too old,, but Shelley tells it differently here.
Shelley was quite attractive as a young woman but became somewhat matronly as she matured and perhaps a little overlooked as a result. Having said that, she was always a GREAT actress!
Besides his annoying habit of interrupting and making ah-hah noises of affirmation, Skip’s overall demeanor and style remind of that cloying character Martin Short did years ago on SCTV. I give Winters credit for getting through it and expressing herself.

I was the floor manager! Ms Winters was the kindest person. She was so gracious to the crew and we always remembered that.
Great interview. Funny, the movie she did with Roger Moore in Belgium and can't remember the title of is 'That Lucky Touch'. Not the best of movies but she was funny as hell in it. Most of her scenes were shot in the castle of Rumbeke.
Why did you cut the interview off, right when she was getting to the juicy parts about her husbands (or is there a part 2 to this that I don't know about ❓)
Always loved Shelley and she caused me to tear up when she started to talk about the Kennedys. America was sullied after the assassinations of JFK and RFK
thats terrible to learn that Susan Strasberg turned down the movie of Anne Frank. Not only would she have been great in it(like she was on stage) but it might have made her a bigger star. She had a promising career but it didn't work out. I used to believe George Stevens didnt want her cause he thought she was too old,, but Shelley tells it differently here.
a yenta if there ever was one
❤❤❤
Shelley was quite attractive as a young woman but became somewhat matronly as she matured and perhaps a little overlooked as a result. Having said that, she was always a GREAT actress!
Shelley has beautiful thick hair.
Besides his annoying habit of interrupting and making ah-hah noises of affirmation, Skip’s overall demeanor and style remind of that cloying character Martin Short did years ago on SCTV.
I give Winters credit for getting through it and expressing herself.
Martin Short's character, Jiminy Glick, was based on Skip E. Lowe.
great interview. is skip still around ?
No, died Sept 22, 2014
Shelley Winters was amazing & thankfully is being remembered as such, not as the ditzy persona she'd put on for talk shows in the 70s & 80s. One such appearance though is definitely worth checking out. Search "Shelley Winters Oliver Reed Tonight Show" and sit back LOL!
'Which Husband...? you got to be more specific'...LOL forever RIP Ms. Winters...Incidentally, her passing followed by her earlier ex-Husband actor, Tony Francisiosca, was very weird, and indicates True Love still existed.
And they shared a daughter!
Hey that track is catchy
