    Being an old man and having seen the progression of talent from the late 70's when I first started playing rudimental snare to what it is today is truly amazing. The level of musicianship, chops, control and overall sound that is coming out of these young people is inspirational. I can't imagine being in the same universe with people like Brandon. He's a naturally gifted and hard working young man who has earned every bit of praise he receives. Congratulations Brandon, you're truly one of a kind!

    • @mpk6664
      @mpk6664 5 лет назад +1

      With all due respect, that "natural talent" is pure hard work and dedication. No one is naturally talented in something like this.

      @@mpk6664 Hence the reason I said ,"He's a naturally gifted and hard working young man who has earned every bit of praise he receives." Natural talent absolutely plays a roll in addition to the obvious hard work he puts in. They go hand in hand.

      One thing that has helped drummers reach higher levels of rudimentary execution is the advancement of drum technology. Back in the 60's and 70's the drums that I am familiar with were very basic. One shell, two single ply heads, two steel rims and a set of snares, all balanced on the side of your leg with no leg brace. Very basic equipment but still fun. Fast forward to today. High tension Kevlar drum heads and cast iron high tension rims with full body mount harnesses to carry your drum. Because of the extreme high tension of the new drum heads a Drummer can easily multiply their rebounds and speed 10 times over. However, the finger control required to do what this Drummer is doing is still amazing. He would be a great Drummer on any kind of drum. There may have been better equipment in the 60's but I never saw it. I think drums are a little like automobiles. They have advanced a lot since the old days. That is a very good thing for modern drummers.

    Not sure why these drums caught a bunch of flack. If you know how to tune a snare drum, that’s it. I have one of the performance snares from Ludwig (System Blue) with a white max on top and falams on bottom. It sounds incredible! Sounds like any other drum that’s tuned right. I think the combo of the “System Blue” heads made the drum not produce the sound we are used to. Not a fan of those heads but I can see why they are nice for performers. They have a nice feel, and touch. Just doesn’t produce that rich snare sound.

    I didnt watch DCI and in marching band we were talking about it, our front ensemble director asked what our favorite show was, even the few of us that didnt go he asked us too as a joke, everyone said blue devils, I didnt hear them well and when he asked me I said blue coats
