- Antoine De Caunes introduces Jeff; "There has been a kind of spontaneous enthusiasm in the world of binary music lovers, listening to the graceful and captivating songs of this young Californian immigrant who has immigrated to New York, dithyrambic reviews, massive sales, France waited impatiently Jeff Buckley, he is there tonight for his first appearance in France .., for Nulle Part Ailleurs .., Jeff Buckley !! "
"This is how angels sing in 1995!" Said Antoine in conclusion. -
This is one of the performances where I realize just how hard he pushed himself. He practiced hard... real hard... his entire life. His photographer said he didn't know how to relax, only work. His manager and bandmates often talked about how he would show up to performances and interviews looking like he just rolled out of bed, which I think is evident here. He suffered from insomnia. This dude pushed himself to the limits but it paid off... fantastic performance!
Yup

Pop p P
Maybe he knew he was running out of time
You'll be haunted by his music forever, no way out.
True 😌
No lie
Always. Since the first day I listened to it. Never left my mind.
YES idk why, but this song makes us feel things, different things, kinda mythical, etherial
Yup
Michael Tighe, Matt Johnson and Mick Grondahl... the unsung heros behind the magic... grossly underrated, one of the tightest backing bands ever... so fitting, to be backing a wonder such as Jeff Buckley
and to think they had all the chemistry they had in the album with only a month of gigging with each other prior to that ... fucking wow
I really admire them, specially Matt - even tho far as I know things didn't end too well between him and Jeff.
I like the fact Michael and Matt still playing in some big bands - Liam Gallagher and St Vincent respectively - but I so damn wish they play together again, even if it's not Buckley's songs. At least they follow each other on Instagram, lol.
By the way, I don't know anything about Mick, I like to think he keeps playing music somewhere.
Cheers my friend
Né isso
I didn't know that about Liaam's backing band! Even cooler
@@radel1102 Michael Tighe isn't even on the album apart from playing on his co-write So Real which was recorded last .. the epic power and beauty of the Grace album is essentially by a 3-piece band + Gary Lucas on his 2 songs of course.
This particular live version is so much better than the others imo, stronger I should say. He gives it all, at that point I'm not seeing an human being singing but rather a pure spirit, I cry when I hear this song, of joy and sadness, both in their pure form
On replay for the rest of my life.
Edit: It's 18/04/2016 and I'm still listening to this
2nd Edit: 16/01/2018 Now I make my own music and I still enjoy listening to Jeff Buckley
3rd Edit: 06/07/2020: Coronavirus hit hard, Still making music tho and still listening to this. Be safe everyone
4th Edit: 31/12/2021: This year I experienced intense love for someone that I met briefly. Sadly, life pulled us apart. Jeff of course is still being played every now and then. Happy new year everyone!
Taneli Lucis I’ve been non stop Jeff Buckley for the last two days. Especially with “Grace” been a fan since day 1 many many years ago, and still he moves me each and every time! An extraordinary talent gone too soon!!
I discovered him around 2000, when I was 20. Now "Grace" album still sounds at home, this time for my little boy who is 4 y.o. And as u say, 4 life.
Hi
you still replaying this bro?
Let's come back here until the end of time, while we wait in the fire.
"It reminds me of the pain I might leave behind..."
You were right Jeff.
SleighJessi read this as the words came out of his mouth - thank you
Jordan J Ahh you’re welcome. His death was such a loss to music.
he’s not dead he just went back to his home planet
Pretty sure Anaheim is in California
3:19 - 3:30 THAT CHANGE CHEST/HEAD VOICE!!! perfect!
YES
Omg, yes! His transitions and his mix is what I like the most about his amazing voice!
holy shit.
Exactly, that's one fitting description.
I remember watching this performance on TV 28 years ago. I was 12 at the time.
"Nulle Part Ailleurs" was a famous French TV show during the 90's, and many popular artists were invited (like Nirvana, Oasis, Radiohead, etc...) and I enjoyed watching it.
So I was watching this performance on my own, when my father, who was cooking, at 5:25 almost ran into the living room and asked me :
"Who is this freak ? His voice is incredible ! "
I was so blown away by this performance (so was my father) that I immediately became a fan. I was too young to buy the CD, but few months later a friend of mine lent to me Grace, and I listened to it over and over again...
It is such a nice surprise to hear again this show almost 30 years later (thanks RUclips algorithm 😊 )
carrement
Jeff destroyed everything after 4:26... A beast!
He is gone after 4.27.... incredible.....
Did the guy even breathe? Those notes and the length they are held? Just absolutely astonishing. And that band was TIGHT!! Such a shame. Huge loss.
Best comment ever!!!
Otherworldly voice, unique vocal texture and tone, amazing vocal control, innate breath control and compression, an effortless vocal range attained with all of those mysteriously beautiful vocal nuances, lyrically adept/poetically gifted - all of the aforementioned came natural to the insanely gifted Jeff Buckley...and that was just the start of describing the man's genius. People tend to describe artists as being next level. For me, Jeff Buckley's brilliance as an artist was on another level way beyond that along with the most gifted, influential natural artists of the last several centuries..among the likes of Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Beethoven, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Chopin, Minghus, Curtis Mayfield, Amy Winehouse, and Jim Morrison among two dozen others that I don't mean to leave out.
@@ronjoshua8356 yes sir/ma’am I’ve got no clue how the hell he pulls such notes for that length consistently he was the greatest artist of all time Imo
How the fuck is this even real???
Honestly, one of the greatest live recordings of any song...ever.
EDIT TO ADD: I should say, one of the greatest live PERFORMANCES of any song ever.
AGREE..saw them 1996 here in Australia..opened with Dream Brother.....Still have goose bumps.....top 5 forever...but this was restrained venom.....Magic as always.
@@rodlawrence3032 yeah that’s saw them in Oz too!!👌
I so agree, I went and checked another live version, it was not as strong and pure as this, sounds like I'm talking bout drugs, but nope it is indeed Mr Jeff buckley...
@@stars_and_tarot_YT He was phenomenal AND the band. Just raw pure perfection and, I don’t usually like rock !!!! let’s NOT forget, he is gorgeous!!!!
On a morning television show, a glimpse of a genius's soul. That's Jeff.
When I first heard Jeff Buckley, his Grace album was the only album I played on my car's cd player for the next 6 months. "Grace" became one of my favorite Buckley songs, & over the years I've heard various versions, but last night was the first time I'd heard this particular live performance. I want to eat it, inhale it, sleep with it, you name it. I can't get enough of it. It's practically perfect.
I'm in France and saw this performance, this day, in front on my tv ... didn't know this guy ... and I cried ...
@@barchbill9005 I certainly get that.
@@jkj981
Try the BBC uk tv version. Holy moly
@@Cloud007. Holy moly is right! Not as gritty as the French performance, but more up close & personal, & once again, flawless.
I love how prominent the bass is on this. Sounds huge!
This guy was so fucking crazy to be alive
such an intense angel....
perfect way to describe him
❤❤
"This is how Angels sings in 1995". Perfect commentary of Antoine De Caunes in the end.
I was watching the show. I bought the record the next day!
Man, if I would ever try to do for a single second the things Jeff was able to do with his voice, not only I'd fail but also I'd never get my voice back
BEST LIVE OF GRACE
i think so!
Top 2
I couldn't choose
I think Olympia is my fave
Absolutely speechless...
This made me cry. I’m not even kidding. Can’t believe this is real hahah most natural energy and talent I’ve ever seen
It’s real, So Real
I've been listening to this song for 25 years and it's still as fresh and powerful as the first time I heard it. Much better live. I'm listening to all the live performances from 1995
Today is the birthday to jeff Buckley 50 years RIP in heaven Jéff and salute the Angels!!!!
So regret never seeing him live. It must have been an experience to be there
I don't know why , Jeff is the most influential charector in my Life, everafter I heard his first song..
But bit disappointed when no one I know actually know about this legend..
I know right. It's up to us to educate them. If my 4 year old son knows him there's hope for the future x
I didnt discover him until 2005 (I was 13 at the time). I was really bummed to pull up his wiki page and learn he was dead....but its really cool to see him getting the recognition he should have had during his life
He’s a rare gem ❤️
I cry so hard everytime I hear this song, this is my catharsis.
Studio version makes me cry, this version makes me cry harder
one of the best live performances of this
In my opinion this Is THE best of It.
@@manuredrum4754 right on
There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Oh, it's my time coming,
I'm not afraid
Afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time.
Of time
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
The fire.
And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine
We both might go tomorrow
Oh my love
And the rain is falling,
I believe my time has come
It reminds me of the pain
I might leave
Leave behind
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
The fire.
It reminds me of the pain
I might leave
Leave behind
And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Wait in the fire.
Grunge died in April of 94 and Buckley was set to take over the world . Damn!!!!
Greatest of all Time. no one on earth has topped this yet
This has to be the best live performance of Jeff singing 'Grace' that I've come across on RUclips...it's absolutely phenomenal!!!!! 💗💗💗
Unbelievably good
what was that guy.................... simply the best
Je l’ai vu 100 fois meilleur chanson live ❤ j’y retourne… 😍
Jeff Buckley still loved and missed in 2017!
Bella De Ball And 2018.
and will be forever, rip
and soon 2023
Still in 2024
The Best voice in rock... Ever
"but it goes soooo sloooooooowwwww......" i know Jeff, i know.
Not for him...it went too fast for Jeff.
it’s all relative.
God expresses himself through him.He was a real angel. He's pure grace .Such a loss. We'll miss you forever
What a badass.
All I can say is WOW. He was amazing. 💔
Absolutely spine tingling incredible..phenomenal!!! What a great loss
This was posted 10 years ago and the audio still sounds amazing!
In this concert of praises around the incredible performance of Jeff and his band, a small word to thank the teams of NPA, including the programmation of Stéphane Saunier (all those great bands that you could see as a kid on live TV !), as well as the video production and the mix, sober and impeccable
I'm I the only one who really likes Jeff's unusual vibrato
No.
@@MojoPin1983 late at but yeah it reminds me of opera I love it so much
Jeff never seizes to amaze me but the band behind him is also absolutely amazing. Matt's drumming is so complementary. Mick's bass playing (especially during the bridge in this performance) is absolutely crucial to the arrangement of this song and Micahel's guitar playing is so in tune with everything Buckley is doing.
The base, guitar, plus Jeff... I'm dying, I can't get enough. Thank you Jesus I'm in love. I rreeaally start to die of pleasure from 2:30 on. And it happens again just past 3:30.
The last part he unleashed it. He really put it out there!!!!!!!
I saw him on stage in Lyons, France, January 95, Jeff's first French tour I think. He played a small venue ("Le Transbordeur"). He was just beginning to get very big in France. Sadly I missed him on July of that same year when he played the big "Festival de Fourvière", still in Lyons. Marianne Faithfull was also on the bill that night as far as I remember. I couldn't afford tickets for a big festival. It should have been a wonderful experience seeing Jeff performing in the ancient Roman theatre where the festival is held. Parts of the "Mystery White Boy" album were also recorded on that night. Shame, really.
I was on military duty when I heard of his death in May 97. I felt it was such a waste... Then my sister got me "Sketches for my sweetheart the drunk" for my birthday in 98, and I listened to it almost every day for two years. This period 95-2000 his music was always so close, each of his songs brings a special memory from that time.
Still love you in 2016, one of the best
The best
tipotte91 Still love you Jeff Buckley in 2017
Happo love him even more in 2020
Back in late 2006 when youtube was just getting big, it's algorithm gave me this exact video.. 13 years down the road, I'm glad AI exists..
25 years after, he gives me thrills again... Impressive!!! RIP Jeff Buckley...
Amazing performance. He remain an unforgettable musician.
That was a f'ing brilliant performance, just blown away by it.
Here on march 03/2021 I came to escape of the pandemic madness on my mind with Jeff's magic voice. Thank you
Fuuuuccckkkk! So good! I even named my first born after this song/album.
Not only a g.o.a.t. vocalist, but a true poet. “... the bright light of sorrow”! Sorrows tell who you really are. Brilliant!
First time seeing this exact performance... how come he still can surprise me like this? insane! This is like a stepping stone to any singer... I have yet to hear a better rendition of this... Untouchable! I wish we could hear more of him... taken way too soon!
2021 and still my favorite song in the universe.
This performance--all four of them!--is magical! Just stunning! May be the best recorded rock performance to this point. Subjective, I know; but, DAY-YUM!!!
Wow, check out how melodic those bass lines are! Great rhythm section!
I only wished to have been there to experience the energy he was given out!!!!
THIS
Fantastic as usual...l love this song, and this man.
+alicia mcmillan you did leave us in pain without you Jeff...but you also left your legacy of beautiful music.
Jeff also played Hallelujah live solo on this show in September '95 best version :)
I really didn't want it to end. Best performance ever by JB
One of my favorite song of all the Times! Jeff entered into my soul with his voice
An angel who left us too early....easily one of, cif not, the best voice ever....!!!
At the end of the song Antoine De Caunes said : "This is how, my dear priest, angels sing in 1995 " so true !! Maybe god wanted Jeff to sing for him in heaven and took him from us way too soon.
Jeff..I love youuuuuu !!!!
An outstanding performance!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant song
I'm speechless.
"c'est comme ça, monseigneur, que les anges chantent en 1995"
Définitivement, je préfère les anges de la télé de 1995 à ceux d'aujourd'hui...
+Andrew Simar Ah non je l'ai immédiatement compris ^^
Les cris de Cobain dans Drain you, de Corgan dans Billet with butterfly wings et Buckley ici sont des cris phénoménaux que je ne lasse pas d'écouter depuis leur passage dans Npa. Cette émission était bénie, à n'en pas douter.
My favourite singer forever. RIP Jeff. ❤
Magic!
5:15!!
Been following Jeff n he’s been following me recently. Beautiful. Truly.
I'm shaking... so pure ... My goodness
this guy always sounded amazing live 100%. it would have been harder for him to screw up than to sound amazing
Glad the day I met Buckley’s music
I love how in the end the show host and it's guests are sitting there just like 'another day in the office'. They have no clue about what they've just witnessed!
Youtubax did you ever search the translation of the host's introduction?
You should know what the host (which name is Antoine De Caunes and who is a music lover) is saying then (to the guest who's a priest in front of him) : "This is how, my lord, the angels sing in 1995."
Maybe they are speechless at how amazing he is!
@@AP-jl8zl They were...
aweeeeeeee his voice
3:56-4:01...The amount of replays I did just to hear that one note...is probably illegal.
It feels like he can do anything with his voice.
Best performance of this one right here
Jeff Buckley reminds me of the pain I might leave behind
Shit!!!! If I was playing the bass along side him my hands would freeze I'm fully captivated my heart can't even take this amount of passion it gives me chills Jeff Buckley was a monster rest his soul
Trop incroyablement beau
un imprescindible musical: un buckley diario
EVERYTIME I listen to this I just want to express how floored, ecstatic, blown away I am by this phenomenon, singular artist! But I guess there is only the possibility to write one comment :)
Wonderful!
is there any way for Jeff to be posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, if he isn't already? He needs to be there.
