Jeff was so special. I remember him saying in an interview that a person's voice reflects who they are, e.g. if you're shy or sweet or sensitive or sexy or feminine or sad or hurt then it comes acroos in your voice. And it is so true. Especially with his own. His voice truly reflects his beautiful soul. No other voice is like Jeff's. He is too much. Extraordinary
I really love this song from the film Bagdah Café. What a movie and what a theme! Everything is marvellous, unforgettable. Yes, "I'm calling you". Sweet release...
"There was a woman outside who was talking to someone, and I was trying to guess from her eyes what she sounded like," he said softly. "You can tell everything from the eyes." - Jeff Buckley ♥
That's what I always looked at to see a mood switch, lie, people do some strange things with their eyes ..especially when lying...Eyes and mouth... ! I know where he was coming from with that!!
Jeff Buckley was the best of the best, but he looked so sad at times. It breaks my heart to watch his interviews, & music videos. He lived & breathed music. It was his true love. You can virtually feel his pain & torment when he sings. He loved to play live. It didn't matter where; on tour with his band, or at the coffeehouses like Shenee`. If he had not died such a tragic death at such a young age, I believe he would have been a Grammy winner many times over. His vocals were so unbelievably beautiful. He had an octive range that most of us have never heard before, & probably never will again. He had the voice of an angel. If you've never heard him sing "Didos Lament," a beautiful opera/hymn that is also sung by several opera singers in their beautiful soprano voices. It's a very sad & meaningful song. It gives me goosebumps when I hear Jeff sing it. The next song is a very old hymn entitled "San Antonio Carol." I love that song as well. It is another song that Jeff sings in a soprano voice. It just gives me the chills. When Jeff sings, he sings with such passion, you can't help but be in awe of his special talent. He was one of the greatest singers, song writer's & guitarists of his generation. But he didn't live long enough to know it.
+sandra ozel Totally agree. he was something different. something more. If you are interested in exploring the best modern day equivalent might i suggest you check out Matt Corby?
+Marchand Steenkamp How can you even begin to believe that Corby is a modern day equivalent, he's another Buckley wannabe that's just like every other Buckley wannabe. The difference is he's a pretty boy without Buckley's God given talent. Corby wishes as do a million other singers that they could even, even come close to singing one song as well and as soulful as Jeff. Bad advice!
+Billy Pilgrim 1. Wasn't talking to you. 2. Music is subjective. That your opinion varies does not lend credit to your repudiation of my statement. 3. Calling Corby a wannabe exposes your ignorance to his musical career. 4. At the start of my comment I clearly agreed with her. I simply offered my choice of today's lyrical equivalent. if you disagree.... well I hardly care. Have a nice day

He was so ahead of his time but at the same time ab old soul ... I miss the music he never had a chance to make bit, and so thankful for what he gave us
Jeff and Layne.. two angels that had a voice no one will ever have or had and a karisma and just that persona that brings me to tears every time i hear them sing. F**K i wish i got to see them.
I just watched Bagdad Cafe again a couple days ago. It is one of my very favorite films, in large part because of this song and the way it pulls you into the plot. I almost never watch anything more than once, but I've seen it half a dozen times now.
Çağlar Polat Right there with you guys. That horrible depression that washed over me when I learned he drowned just rushed back out of nowhere. I miss him and Elliot Smith very much.
Today is the 29th of May 2015 and my heart is heavy...Jeff would have been 48yrs old, so glad we have Jeff's music to keep his beautiful spirit a live. Oh how I love this song, and every other that followed
A new artist going in that direction is "Moses Sumney". For those who don't know him already I would strongly recomend looking for his live performance at the Jools Holland show.
There is simply no-one like Jeff Buckley and his vocal range is exceptional. He is also beautiful, just look at the above picture of him! He reminds me of Chris Jones from the 1960s (Ryan's Daughter). I wish I could sing, and hold notes like him and for as long as he does. My favourite is "Lover, you should've come over". I, like many others, discovered him posthumously; I would have loved to have seen him live.
Like a hummer right on the head.... Celine Dion and Lara Fabian are the only two that slay it vocally wise but Jeff is the one that adds an extra layer of soul and pain only felt but the loneliest of loneliest hearts.
This is so beautiful, but is so sad I won't ever have the pleasure to listen to this man live or any more great music from him. He should still be alive.
Buckely's creations were intoxicating, haunting & authentic! I hope that he is in a place that comforts his magical, generous soul. You are missed by many ... but you will always live on in our hearts! RIP
Listening to Jeff while I was in the shower this morning. Lover you should have come over...the ending stirs me. This was followed by Calling You.... it’s honesty and raw quality always overwhelm me. I leaned against the tile in the warm water and sobbed. Never has an artist’s voice moved me like this. It was such a touching and vulnerable few minutes of my life.
Man! Jeff sure knew how to strum & pull at your Heart Strings! He was certainly someone who understood love, life & musical expression.... He was Absolutely Brilliant, & now in Heaven looking down on us pitiful humans just shaking his beautiful head - I truly believe that he got it! He understood life on a grander scale than most. I would love to see what he's composed wherever his soul may be ~ Sweet dreams, to the young man who could! ~ Peace
What a voice and talent, like his father Tim , who sang songs like Once I was or Song to the Siren. Both father and son full of melancholy and intimacy, truly precious gems.
Immerse your soul in love with his voice. He's a beautiful soul with the most unique voice that can touch everybody's heart. Rest in peace Jeffrey Scott Buckley. You're my favourite one! ♡
I had no idea he covered this song, but I know the original was featured in Bagdad Café, a movie from 1987 starring CCH Pounder. The lyrics of the song basically just narrates the entire movie. It's beautiful. If anyone's interested, the original is by Jevetta Steele.
Never heard of this version, and Buckley's been one of my fave singers for years. I didn't know there were a number of different versions of this song either, especially since I've always loved the original by Jevetta Steele.
Thank you for answering my question of where I’d heard this song before. And it’s a song that has wrung through my head for 35 years. So haunting. So beautiful.
Is it not tear jerking? Man... I always wonder what was going through his head because all of his songs you can hear a certain cold chilling emotion just spun into his vocal chords...
tlansing18 I bet he is. Looking down and seeing all these sad souls and yet cheering them on. Knowing one day, they'll join him to and we all can sit down and just talk about our emotions and let go truly. It's amazing how one person can be so much for so many.
Amo esta canción!!! Me emociona mucho cada vez que la escucho. Jeff, un genio único e irrepetible! Transmitía muy bien emociones a través de cada canción. Me duele que no esté con vida 😢

I don't think Jeff had a sad life per say, but i think he had a neverending thirst when it came to music. He was so passionate, had so much integrity and was just down right honost about his music. I just think he was in a ongoing search for something, like most musicians, i would know being a musician myself and a perfectionist at the same time - i bet Jeff was too. Not to compare myself to Jeff though, if i was half the musician he was, i would be places by now, that voice is holy!
I love this version of "Calling You". I've heard many versions. Javetta Steele's who I originally thought no one could top. Celine Dion's, Jeff Buckley's, Dorota Osinska's, all great interpretations. I Can only judge these in different ways. Javetta's is the most soulful. Jeff's is the most heart wrenching. And, Dorota's is the one that touches me most in my soul. My final is Jeff's version which I find to be so painful that I could only listen to it once in awhile. And, Dorota Osinska's 's which I could listen to forever. Please listen to the different versions before you make any comments. After all, we want to learn from each other. All are on Utube. PS. I expect the people here are fans of Jeff Buckley. If you want to check out one of his more famous covers - check out KD Langs' version of "Hallelujah at the 2010 Winter Olympics (much better than the studio version). .
Theo Lamp Yes Dorota Osinska's verson is beautiful but Jeff's verson is by far the best in my book. He is calling me and I hear him. He sings with a passion I cant explain and touches me.
alicia mcmillan Hi Alicia - Thanks for your reply. I can't disagree with you. Jeff's version is so heart wrenching. Dorota's is so soul searching. I really can't put one above the other. I think both are incredible & different visions of interpreting the song. Love & Best wishes - Ted
+Theo Lamp Sorry but I really don't like the Celine Dion version because she doesn't has a good voice enough to express a powerful voice in the trebles; and her background sounds like digital karaoke. Jeff Buckley is good. Dorota Osinska is a bit too much self-indulgent; She added some useless notes to this melody but she's mainly showing off.
I just recreantly discovered his music... and it pains me that he is gone. I was 1 when he passed here I am about to be 27 just discovering him... I am in love with his voice and how he just spoke how hearts are broken in ways... so relatable and yet he was so open and vulnerable. Sensitive and sweet. He was art.. and his love was music.
The most haunting voice ever. So much passion and pain and some sort of dark and light magic at the same time. Like a ghost's lament full with a pure heart and I don't know. He was so unique. Always missing him.
God, why must it hurt to loose beautiful.😍 singing angels!? Ok, maybe you needed him more. Thankyou for creating such a wonderful person who brought honey to our hearts and ears!
this song destroys me in so many ways, my heart breaks everytime i hear this, reminds me when my ex boyfriend left me, over 2 years almost 3 years ago, i never found happiness with another person again. This don't mean that i still love him, i just never felt that way again. Life is so devastating and unfair!!!!
This is a challenging song - and he projects the feeling necessary to the loneliness of the lyrics. Haunting and painful and so beautiful. I hear Patti LaPone sing this last night in concert. I was searching for the lyrics and happened upon this recording. LOVE IT. As heart wrenching as what I heard about 15 hours ago. And now, perhaps my favorite. Thanks for sharing while you were here Jeff Buckley.
fuck fuck fuck fuck....That shook me. Just taking a moment to feel deep gratitude he ever existed. I have listened to him for almost 10 years and its the first time I hear this cover....jesus....he's more alive than so many walking around
How beautiful and sad this is, but at the same time very healing. I feel like crying like a little child from the beauty and tenderness of Jeff's emotion and voice.
Nothing compares... to the raw emotion he delicately exudes ,in the tender delivery of each lyric as they leave his lips...Kisses from an angel that's what his songs are ...simply beautiful...I love his music but this one is my favorite by far....
Jeff was so special.

He reminds me of Nina simone, a rich, deep passion direct from the cauldron of the soul. Haunting and soothing at the same time.
Mark Gravesyes I agree Mark, and Jeff loved and respected Nina Simone, he often would say before singing one of her songs this is for Nina Simone.
Mark Graves Very well said.

Love & Best wishes - Ted
yes I have to agree with you on that
Theo Lamp Have you ever listened the cover of Yoann Freget of this song ? ^ ^
It's cold and raining softly here and i'm listening to this song with a cup of hot chocolate in the 3rd floor. My night is done.
What difference does it make what floor you're on?
@@LanarkshireLegacy
Whilst listening to this sad song? Maybe he was thinking to jump from the 3rd floor.
@@LanarkshireLegacy just a visual
@@LanarkshireLegacy reference to 3rd floor makes it sound more intimate.
Your voice fill my soul❤
I just recreantly discovered his music... and it pains me that he is gone. I was 1 when he passed here I am about to be 27 just discovering him... I am in love with his voice and how he just spoke how hearts are broken in ways... so relatable and yet he was so open and vulnerable. Sensitive and sweet. He was art.. and his love was music.
RIP sweet angel....
still everywere, angels never die!
The most haunting voice ever. So much passion and pain and some sort of dark and light magic at the same time. Like a ghost's lament full with a pure heart and I don't know. He was so unique. Always missing him.
it hurts so bad
ikr it made my meme feel ;(
hurts so good
This song always makes me cry. Jeff still alive by such a little word of his lyrics and melodies... Perfection!
Every day I am sad he's no longer with us.
He's dead very awful,if he still alive he has many songs like this.
Let's just be grateful that he was able to release some incredible music =)
Same.
Me toooooooo 💔
Whichever way you try to describe that, which you feel while listening to Jeff, will eternally feel inadequate. RIP Jeff.
Great song, what a voice, absolutely stunning
God, why must it hurt to loose beautiful.😍 singing angels!? Ok, maybe you needed him more. Thankyou for creating such a wonderful person who brought honey to our hearts and ears!
What a voice...powerful version of this song..orgasm to my ears and heart....
Simply BEAUTIFUL 🤩❤️🥰
Omg my heart with his voice!!!!😫😭❤️🤧😩💔
this song destroys me in so many ways, my heart breaks everytime i hear this, reminds me when my ex boyfriend left me, over 2 years almost 3 years ago, i never found happiness with another person again. This don't mean that i still love him, i just never felt that way again. Life is so devastating and unfair!!!!
+vanesa valdez As was said long ago, it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
+Florent Law-wun
je suis d'accord avec vous
+vanesa valdez You're still alive. This means you can find someone else just as fulfilling and interesting (if you allow it).
Instant tears. Every time.
Listening to this beautiful song sung by this beautiful man in Dec 2020. Bring me back ...You all out there? Stay safe keep the faith
Happy 50th b-day today Jeff!!
fuck fuck fuck fuck....That shook me. Just taking a moment to feel deep gratitude he ever existed. I have listened to him for almost 10 years and its the first time I hear this cover....jesus....he's more alive than so many walking around
I agree with you totally
this man could sing the alphabet song and give you the feels, such rare talent.
Such an angelic voice. Terrific song.
I have LOVED this song since the movie "Baghdad Cafe"! This guy's version is just as lonesome and haunting...
A very nice version. Unusual voice.
This song this voice is so perfect so beautiful oh my God i love so much
A pure divine gift to hear and see this incredible soul .....X
jeff makes me cry on a regular basis
How beautiful and sad this is, but at the same time very healing. I feel like crying like a little child from the beauty and tenderness of Jeff's emotion and voice.
he's such a wonderful musician. So sad his life ended so soon. Sadness....
So beautiful such a shame Jeff is gone but he left a beautiful gift of his song and voice with us
Oh my god I have chills. This is perfect.♥♥
Nothing compares... to the raw emotion he delicately exudes ,in the tender delivery of each lyric as they leave his lips...Kisses from an angel that's what his songs are ...simply beautiful...I love his music but this one is my favorite by far....
This is beautiful.
Nie mogę przestać słuchać... to takie wezwanie do mnie... Szkoda, że już nie ma Jeffa🥺
His voice made me crying so hard, feel the pain of the song , guess I am too sensitive in so many ways.... 😭😭😭
it's okay... we all felt that :'3
Not the first time I cried hearing one of these songs... especially while I drive my car alone at night with a good sound system turned up loud.
+Dianna Cumming perfect moment!!!
I, too, always cry when I hear his voice as I drive the car in the dark at night
Yes , you are too sensitive , but , it's alright!
Oh maaaaan, this song hit hard. Jeff, you are so missed.
