i own the a7c and a6000, sold the a6000 to upgrade to a6400, i am getting zve10 body for roughly 620$ in India, after going through many reviews and tube videos, decided to get the zve10 against the a6400. my lens combo would be sigma 16mm and Sony 50mm oss. i would be buying a small rig hand grip for the zve10 for better ergonomics. mainly will be used for everyday photography, light and small to carry. just that we have to compromise EVF. my guess is future cameras will go off with EVF's...
Toms: good video. The a6400 still holds up, and its build quality becomes significant over time. For video, I use the Cine 4 profile, with some tweaks . I find that works well and is easy to grade. Have shot entire documentaries this way.
Thank you Finn. Never tried Cine 4 tho. Im bit afraid of the 8-bit limitation when it comes to color so I've found that HLG works the best (for me) since not a lot of color correction is necessary afterwords, thus less artefacts when color grading. But it also seems like a personal preference. Glad it works nicely for you ;)

I managed to get a Sony zv-e10 with 644$ with an extremly rare luck.
It was bought in May , has guaranty untill 2025 , with only 120 shots + small rig + sticker cover and absolutely no problem! IT'S FANTASTIC AND I LOVE IT

Cool. I use an a6400 exclusively for video testimonials to promote a non-video-related business. Works wonders, but I'm unqualified to compare/contrast with other cameras. I like how my testimonials have been turning out with it.

Hey Tom, I was recently looking at the Sony ZV-E10, and I was wondering what your opinions on this camera are? I am new to mirrorless cameras so I am still learning a lot!
I really like it Valkaris! Of course Sony has cut corners in many ways to keep the price down but the camera really is worth its money, especially if you are getting into photography/videography, it would not be wise to splash out on some crazy Full Frame camera.
Im deciding to buy if im gonna go with sony a6400 or Canon 90d... I want a camera that can do video and photo
I have the ZV-E10 and the A6400. Because I lean towards photography, I will keep my A6400 now. On bright daylight the miss of an ELV on the ZV-E10 is too much of a dealbreaker for me. Even I have the adapter for the lcd display, to use it as an ELV on bright daylight. But as good this solution works, it is additional gear I have to carry in the case of the ZV-E10.
Also like in he video mentioned, the build quality on the A6400 feels so much better and it is important to me.
But you can also do something to make the ZV-E10 even better with Accessories.
For better grip and to make it more versatile (in terms of connecting and attach things to the camera) and make it more robust, I recommend a SmallRig grip cage for the ZV-E10. It is a game changer in hands and for the camera.
If I would do more video and don't need a weather sealing I can highly recommend the ZV-E10. For Video it is the best bang for the buck. If the missing ELV or the solution with an LCD adapter to make it an ELV is fine for you, the ZV-E10 will give you great photos and videos. Fatanstich for traveling as well.
But like I said, I'm leaning towards more photography and the A6400 with a good ELV, the built quality and weather sealing. Crazy is the reselling market in my country. To find a A6400 used for reasonable price os mostly not possible, even the reselling-market is full with offers. The A6400 keeps it high value on the used market.
Buying a new one is most of the time only 100 bucks more expensive or often the same price, if their is a sale-promotion.
The ZV-E10 is getting a lot of sales-promotions as well with great prices to buy a new one. I can imagine, for many people the ZV-E10 is the better "go to camera" to buy.

I bought this camera in 2020 springtime and always was happy about this camera. The only bad thing what happened, is that my SanDisk card destroyed card slot in my a6400. To fix my camera I paid 300£ and I use now Samsung and Kingston cards, hopefully they are better. When I waited 6400 repair, I bough Sony A7S Mark I and its also another good camera. Yes autofocus very bad there, but video from vintage lenses I like more in Sony A7S I.
Oh damn, how did that happen? A friend of mine had a little plastic piece that broke off an sd card and got stuck in the card slot but he did manage to take it out. P.S. You can check out Angelbird SD cards. I started using them last year and love them.
A6400 is great for the money, used or new. I have 2 of these and they are still doing great for interviews with 2 camera set up. The only thing I miss is the slow-motion in 4k but well, with that price you cant complain lol

I got my a6500 like few weeks ago for the price of 900€ but with included sigma 30mm f1.4 lens and few more bateries. I cannot say that I do not love it for it small size and In body stabilization. Do you think it was a good choice to buy it for 2023? For me like a beginner in photography and video shooting it is pretty awesome tool and I think that it was definitely worth it but I would like to hear your opinion.
I think it is absolutely amazing choice Daniel and you got a really good price too. The combo is great. Use the max out of that camera and only when you feel a real need, only then upgrade to something else.

Cameron, you can throw that Sigma 16mm literally on ANY camera and its gonna blow your mind. I can not believe how capable that lens is. Good choice!
I was recently having a hard time deciding between the ZV-E10 and A6400 as an upgrade from my A6000 but randomly managed to find the ZV-E10 used for $590 USD used and jumped on it. So far I am loving the ZV-E10 and slowly getting used to the lack of viewfinder. The many other benefits of the ZV-E10 outweigh this aspect, though. I also decided to keep my A6000 after all because there's something I love about it, despite its age! 😄

I ended up finally upgrading my old NEX-6 to a6600 this year "on sale" (they included an extra C$120 battery) primarily for photography use. I debated whether to save up for the A7 IV or even switch to Fuji XT, but ultimately decided on the a6600. It's on the expensive side but it's incredibly good to use. Battery life is exceptional and the auto-focus is worlds better than it was on my old NEX-6. It's so hard to choose these days but it feels good to finally just have the new one and get back to taking photos. The A7 IV would be nice but it's about 70% higher price, considerably larger and heavier (with FF lenses which are also more expensive), but 4k60 would be worth it alone if earning money from your work. Maybe one day but it seems like prices only go way up with each gen, never down anymore.
I feel you my friend. A6600 is definitely a great upgrade and even tho I am absolutely loving my A7IV, it is true that it gets a lot more expensive side (not only body, the lenses but even "small" things like SD card that can take 600mbits recording) will set you back a dollar or two more than apsc. So I think you've saved yourself a lot of headaches lol

I am a NEX-5T user. Bought it 3 years ago from a friend for 100 bucks. Been waiting for an upgrade desperately since last NOV even tho I only do toy photography. After seeing your comment, got me thinking whether I need to go full frame or not. Initially I was looking into 7C and A7IV, but now seems like 6600 would be a good option too (and spend less)….
I have zv-e 10 and 6400. 6400 more better than zv-e10. extremly when u make photo or video under the strong sun light. They forget to make view finder. Thats why you see nothing. 6400 better battery life. zv-e 10 cheapest version to 6400. its like a empty cars, and full cars. If fyou want to buy one, i recomented 6400.

Really depends on what you need it for. If just casual vlogging style, iPhone probably will be easier to handle, but nothing beats the look and feel of a nice prime lens on a camera

It will definitely give you a lot more options to grow and venture into different styles of filmmaking @@Official_Craniax with a camera like a6400 you can also "expand" on it, add better audio, VND filters to control the light for that cinematic look etc. Good luck buddy!

Really depends on your needs and budget Faith. Lots of videographers enjoy the Sony 18-105 due to its versatility and optical stabilization. I personally like prime lenses for videos more so Sigma 30mm f1.4 and Sigma 56mm f1.4 are my favorites.
ZV E10 is using much of battery consumption than A6400, because ZV E10 is using the lcd screen all the time while a6400 has a viewfinder that you can use to save the battery energy consumption.
a6400 has NO IBIS (in body image stailizer), which is a MUST for handheld video.
Sony A6400 or Canom EOS R10???
I own the a6400 and i feel it has been abandoned by sony like alot of other sony products i have purchased. They havnt done any firmware updates in some time it seems like and it seems to be missing basic features . One in particular is basic cropping of a save pic. I usually use in macro photography to crop in camera is easier. But sadly no cropping feature i thought it was a joke at first but its true. If your a timlpase shooter the camera cannot compile timlapses in camera another pain if you dont want to spend hours in post editing.
Cannot transfer RAWs to smartphone without a pc or a card reader.
Screen hardware has touchscreen capabilities but the firmare dont.
Tilt screen opens up to the top and smashes with the viewfinder cap
Kit lens 16-50mm is way too basic for the non photographer guy to estimate the real capabilities of the camera at first use. My initial impressions were I got a cybershot digital camera in a bigger form factor
Menu system is trash
No back button
No dedicated button to zoom in/out while in play mode
Menu button is difficult to reach while using it from viewfinder mode.
Sony lenses are expensive. Transitioning to pro lenses needs few more bucks, mostly 75% of the money you pay for the body.
I have high hopes for good results with sigma lenses. 🤞🏻
I bought the Fujifilm X-s10 instead of the Sony a6400, very similar cameras, the only thing is that the Fuji has in-body image stabilization and film simulators
Hey Boris. Fuji X-S10 (and many other Fuji cameras) is amazing! I had a chance to test out the XT-200 and really liked it. The only thing I lacked was choice of lenses. How is it with you? Is there plenty to choose from?

A6400 has a lot better build quality and it also has a viewfinder. If that’s important for you, a6400 is your choice.
Hello mate, im thinking to buy a 6400 for my first camera, Im gonna use it most for my girlfriend's portrait taking and maybe some vlog in the future. Is 6400 a good camera to start with? And my hand is kindda shaking, is it gonna matter for portrait picture taking?
Hey Duy, if you get a fast prime lens (Sigma 30mm f1.4 or Sigma 56mm f1.4) you will be good. A6400 is great option! If you don’t mind not having viewfinder, also check out ZV-E10

i ended up going with the a6400, the plastic body and lack of viewfinder and weather sealing on the zv-e10 was too much of a deal breaker for me, and i was going to get a gimbal anyway so the lack of stabilization in the a6400 wasn't that big a deal for me. i the zve has software stabilization but with a pretty big crop and i shoot in nature and landscapes so crop would be a problem. I also got the a6400 off sale with a kit lens (which is okay enough to start with) 100€ cheaper than the zv-e10 without a lens so that was also a big factor
I think you did a very good and educated choice. Its all really about putting the pros and cons and thinking whats important for you. I can clearly see that a6400 works out well for you. P.S. I heard some rumours that ZV-E10II will come out this summer, I wonder how it will stack up with the A6400

An articulated screen on zv-e10 to me is a major turn off. I've been here for about 4 hours looking for an alternative and within that price range nothing comes up but a6400 which isn't ideal for zoom due to charging issues

Yeah that's something I also mentioned. Not sure if A6600 has 10bit? If not then Full Frame is the only way and that's a totally different ballgame

Hey Roy, there are different "creative styles" you can use. Not sure how similar they are to the Fuji colors. Alternatively (what I recommend) is for you to shoot in RAW format and then later edit the photos in Lightroom to match the Fuji colors. So yes its doable. How easy? Well...

Hey Hamza! If you are only gonna shoot photos then definitely go with a6300. There is some benefit of a6400 in photography but if it's your first camera, it's gonna be great.

I am a passionate defender of APS-C cameras. Lately they are just so good, that I am confident to say that most beginners will not greatly benefit from having a full frame camera.

ZV-e10 $640, A6400 $900, A6000 $580.. all prices are brand new, so i'm really having a hard time deciding.. I watched your videos and fell for the A6400.. but A6000 is way cheaper and most of your video uploads are using A6000 and it's really good too.. if i pair it with sony 50mm f1.8 i could get the new lens at $240.. man oh man
If you are going for a6000, do not waste your money on a new one, get a used one for 200-300$, there are so many barely used ones out there.

Speaking about sharpens and Autofocus, Sony A6400 it's over Sony A7IV I'm very disappointed about sony A7IV.

@@TomsJurjaks I have both too , that's why I'm saying , A7IV has more options and better dynamic range but speaking about sharpens and AF A6400 it's much better .Do it my test if you want.In daylight take a photography whit both camera and after that try to zooming to see more details faraway you'll see less details in sony A7IV a lot noise ,but some how A6400 doesn't have that's issues.

@@TomsJurjaks Depends a lot how you use the camera ,for example in my case I'm doing night Photography and and the other issues it's colour banding in long exposure this issue is unacceptable in 2022 whit sony 6400 I never had this issue. If the camera is not tested in all possible scenarios you will not find any problem, in fact, many do not even realize these defects,because it doesn't use the camera in all possible scenarios.

I would hold fire - Sony owe us a photo specific APS-C camera. They can't just keep serving the vlogger generation

- A6100 for photos
- A6400 hybrid
- A6600 for videos
- ZV-E10 for vloggers

I dont really get your point @@britishrose9417 The a6400 has picture profiles and lots of features for videographers. A6600 is meant for videography with ibis, bigger battery etc. In one sentence you argue that Sony owes us photo specific camera, which I say is A6100. Then I mention that a6600 are for videographers, but you say it is not. Then is it for photographers? :D Because it definitely is not for vloggers as it does not have a flipout screen. Whats going on? :D
@@TomsJurjaks None of that range A6xxx have flip out screens, Sony didn't use them then. The range you are referring to is OLD, that is why I say they OWE us a camera. 2019 was a long time ago in tech terms, and to release a raft of new lenses and then not make a photography-orientated camera to use them seems pointless. The entire A6xxx range is odd - it is a mixture of partial photography and video without excelling at either. The FX30 is the first time an APS-C Sony has been placed specifically at one purpose with the possible exception of the EV-10 for those who like to talk to a selfie stick and put it on RUclips.

Fair point. The only thing is that I would not shoot Slog2 or Slog3 on an 8bit camera. This means I have to shoot in HLG3 (second best option imo) but it has lot less dynamic range compared to Slog3 on 10bit.
For me it’s more about dynamic range than it is about what eyes sees.
