I remember walking out after seeing Fast and Furious. My friend goes, "What did you think?" I said, "I liked it better when it was called Point Break."
The title is actually brilliant. Not only does it obviously connect to surfing, but also evokes the idea of reaching a breaking point which is great for a high energy action film
bwah haha ...usually when ‘every’ is subbed for ever’ it’s actually an iphone autocorrect mistake. However, I’m unsure if there’s a similar excuse for “90s’ “instead of “90’s”...
Also, the final scene was a reshoot done after Patrick got back from India from shooting City of Joy. If anyone ever had a feeling that Bodhi was different, it's because it was. The COJ experience changed Patrick in many ways.

What is it that they call it when you give your spouse at 1 cheat pass? My X chose Patrick Swayze, I chose the girl down the street at the 7-Eleven. R.I.P Sir Swayze ❤💃
I remember when he came to our town filming the movie Letters From A Killer. The town didn't really show up until the end I think, but it was really interesting.
I always consider Point Break to be a sequel to Road House. After the events of Road House, Dalton changes his name to Bodhi and begins a spiritual journey and a life of crime
The beach football scene music was done by local Detroit band Loudhouse. Later the they got a different singer and became Sponge. The recording was done by a friend of mine John Vitale and the remix was done by another friend of mine Chris Shier. Was pretty cool to see them all get credit in the movie.
You didn't miss anything. All you missed was Teresa Palmer with black hair instead of her trademark blonde and a movie where EVERY SINGLE MALE CHARACTER is covered in tattoos.
"Middle hand says 'Time to rock and roll" "We're styling!" "Thank you for your time and don't forget to vote!" "I'm not a crook!" Those lines were in the heist scene. I'm sure The Fast and The Furious was inspired by this film.

The reason why it was filmed in Portland was because they were expecting a big storm to hit the area at the time of filming and to their luck it rained really hard, so they were able to get those great shots. That last scene was filmed a few months after they wrapped filming. That's why you see Keanu with the long hair and Patrick with the short hair.
Gods, this has just reminded me how Lori Petty has always been my dreamgirl. Those eyes, her smile, just...*melts* I may have to go rewatch Tank Girl again, like right now.
Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air? Have you ever fired one gun whilst jumping through the air? Have you ever been involved in a high speed pursuit? Have you ever fired your gun up in the air and gone "ahhrgh"?
I won't argue that it wasn't a no-holds-barred adrenaline-fuelled thrill-ride, but there's no way that you could perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.
Patrick Swayze's character is named Bodhi, which is short for "Bodhisattva". As explained by Lori Petty's character Tyler - "They call him Bodhisattva". A bodhisattva is a Buddhist monk who puts off achieving his own enlightenment (Nirvana) in order to help others along the path of Buddhism.
Absolute quality choice of one of my all time classic movies, the strange thing about this is that I was honestly contemplating watching this movie as I've not seen it for a while, I even owned this on VHS Wide screen edition which after losing the case for it I made a call to Fox Video UK & explained that my dog had chewed it up ( a slight lie as I borrowed it to a friend that lost it somehow but who doesn't feel for a dog story)& the lovely receptionist sent me a duplicate out in protected against folds letter. You brought back a host of memories there Minty, it even got me into surfing & I moved from Manchester to Newquay Cornwall, I wasn't very good but I gave it a go. Thanks for your excellent choice. Regards, David from Manchester, England, UK.
Bigelow has made so many great films, and for some reason when I list my favorite films I keep forgetting her. Blue Steel and Strange Days are just incredible movies.
I always felt like patrick swayze and keenu reeves easily could have switched roles and could have made the movie more epic if swayze was the good guy johnny utah.
I agree. I just feel that keenu could of played patrick swayze's role because with bill and ted coming out before this, i just always thought keenu had a better surfer vibe...especially the way he speaks.
I studied this in high-school English.. watched it a dozen times analysing each scene. Haha and I've watched it at least 40 odd times since. I think it is my all time favourite film. Thanks Mrs C.
It's interesting what Minty pointed out about The Fast And The Furious. I actually always noticed that Point Break has a lot of similarity to The Lost Boys. Replace Keanu with Jason Patric, Patrick Swayze with Kiefer Sutherland, and Surfers with Vampires and you've got basically the same movie in many ways. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of both Point Break and The Lost Boys. They are both amazing, and they are both integral movies to when I was growing up. Great music in both. Great portrayals of subcultures. The Lost Boys is even kind of "beachy" in its own way on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, even though it's not a surf movie by any means. They both remain two of my all time favorites to this day and I re-watch them every few years on average. However, I can't help but notice the similarities between them. Actually, maybe that's why I like them both. In fact, I am assuming that The Lost Boys is not the first to explore these "out-on-the-edge" bromance dynamics. Wondering if anyone else can name some other movies that have used this plot and set of dynamics before The Lost Boys did it and/or after Point Break. That is, I'm curious to see the links in the chain of all the movies that have used this setup and how many of them have been good or bad. Point Break and The Lost Boys are amazing ones imo. I'm not personally that big of a fan of The Fast And The Furious movies, no disrespect to those who are.
#11 The surfer that johnny utah takes a hair sample from on the beach was Matt Archbold "Archie", a major surfer in the 80's. He also did a lot of the surf shots.

Great video!! This is my favourite movie of all time!! I was a young teenager when this movie came out!! Funny how a movie can influence your life! Love the music too!!
Another great video, thx Minty 🙂. I’m so glad they made it about surfing, and not skateboarding. I don’t think it would be the classic that it is if they had done that. I’m also glad that Keanu got the role. Just think, we may have had another actor as Neo, or not had The Matrix at all if not for Johnny Utah! Also, I never caught the connection between Point Break and Fast and Furious. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that we didn’t get a thousand sequels from Point Break Btw, love the Batman t-shirt 👍. Wow, I feel slow. I never put Fast and the Furious and Point Break together like that. They really are quite similar. Thanks! I actually feel 10% smarter knowing that. Another great video Minty.

Only if you’re an ex-quarterback from Ohio State. Btw: in the 2 times that Keanu played a quarterback in a film (point break and the replacements) he had attended Ohio state. Oddly enough no NFL quarterback has ever come from Ohio state university.
CamaroAmx sure there was, just look up Art Schlichter. He played in the NFL for about 10 seasons before he ended up in prison because he was such a degenerate gambler he ended up stealing money to pay for it!
This is one of my fav movies. I like the fact that Lori Petty's character wasn't cast as the traditional blonde, long hair, blue eyed typically attractive girl.
Mentioning Flee made me think of another little known 80’s movie he was in , that would also make an interesting Minty episode, called Dudes. Also, seeing Brian Denehy in the movie poster made me think of F/X and F/X2. Also, awesome movies.

Lmao. The so called "Aussie actor" is an actual Australian actor. How can you be from Australia and not know that the surfer at "Bells" who tells Johnny to "Go Back" is Peter Phelps? Australian through and through. Better edit that part out before you make yourself look a fool.
I went and rewatched . You are correct but he's thee only Aussie in the movie. All those Police were American . And honestly he didn't say " Aussie actor" he said " Aussie actors" . But your point is still funny. He should have recognized him .
@@quincee3376 Yeah, just joking. Love Minty's work. And I love how they made Phelps ham up the Aussie accent to make him seem like an American playing an Aussie, because a real Aussie accent isn't Aussie enough. Hollywood is hilarious sometimes.

At the time. There was no better tandem than Swayze/Reeves. Amazing on-screen chemistry 👍
Patrick Swayze was a amazing actor. It's really sad that we lost him. Thanx Minty, Great video as always.

Swayze was 38 when he made Point Break.
Haha! I saw it on a date in high school. I think the only reason I remember that girl (I don't remember her name) was because of the movie.

ILY so much!!!!!!!! 🤗👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏽 Another WINNER Minty!
Wow, I feel slow. I never put Fast and the Furious and Point Break together like that. They really are quite similar. Thanks! I actually feel 10% smarter knowing that. Another great video Minty.
Matthew Broderick wouldn't have worked. He's even more bland than Keanu Reeves. At least Reeves is more lovable as a person.
Cheers for that, now I'm going to watch point break, ,, excellent movie! !!!!
When you get the chance, can you make 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Rocketeer?
Yes, loved that movie when I was a kid, & also loved the NES game!
Only need to know ONE thing about that movie.... Jennifer Connelly is in it 😃😁
I love Point Break. When I think of 90's action movies this is one that comes to mind. Great video Minty!
Please Minty do "BRAINDEAD"
Michael Dust
Yeah, Peter Jackson's Braindead was retitled to Dead Alive in North America but retained its name everywhere else.
AGENT BLACK yeah I keep on saying braindead Dead Alive do the Peter Jackson film I get ignored all I wanted was 10 things you didn't know about braindead
Does Keanu Reeves count?
you have to do the Monty Python films. Minty goes Monty!
I kick ass for THE LORD!
One of the best movies ever, if not the best movie. Cult classic and grew up on this movie and the life style.
I'm changing my name to Jason Nebraska. Maybe then I'll live a life full of action and excitement.
Also, great video! Perfect start to my Friday.
PlayfulOtter Omaha?
NO ONE UNDERSTOOD ME, WHEN I TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT HOW THE FAST AND FURIOUS JUST COPY POINT BREAK
One of my favorites! Perfect cast and story! Get me two!
Top film.
10 things you didn't know about Fortress (1985), plz.
Mentioning Flee made me think of another little known 80’s movie he was in , that would also make an interesting Minty episode, called Dudes. Also, seeing Brian Denehy in the movie poster made me think of F/X and F/X2. Also, awesome movies.
Do Roadhouse! :D
Bonus points to you Minty for picking up on the Fast & The Furious parallel...! 👍🏻
Movie idears.
Death Becomes Her
The Great Outdoors
White Water Summer
Fire Starter
U-Turn
Young Guns
Judgement Night
The Longest Day
Blair Witch.
*Not a movie* but how about review USA Up All Night with Rhonda Sheer or Gilbert Godfried.
Rhonda Sheer. Jeezus we're old
eLi FILMS
Definitely are getting old.
USA Up All Night was awesome and would be today.
Damn I miss USA Up All Night. Gilbert Gottfried and then it was Rhonda Shears right?
Tapping the Source was a f-in gnarly book. I read it like 10 years ago. Had no idea it was loosely tied to PB. Love both
Minty do Road House.
Yeah, that would be a good one, too.
Michael Jackson Another great movie...I thought you'd be bigger
My Way or the Highway!
He did
Final scene filmed on Indian Beach at Ecola State Park, Oregon. Which doesn't get waves anything like Australia...or Hawaii, whose waves stood in for Australian waves in that shot. People do surf Indian Beach but the tubes are only about 10' on the best day and the water is cold as f^^k.
I thought "Johnny Utah" was a take on Johnny Unitas.
He was, Unitas was even referenced in the film
Great movie that’s in my collection! I always thought Gary Busey was funny!
Utah!!! Get me 2!!!
Lmao. The so called "Aussie actor" is an actual Australian actor. How can you be from Australia and not know that the surfer at "Bells" who tells Johnny to "Go Back" is Peter Phelps? Australian through and through. Better edit that part out before you make yourself look a fool.
LOL. Too funny. I had no idea . But that's hilarious.
@@robertb2196 oh for sure dude! I gotcha!
@@robertb2196 i'm Canadian and in Youngblood with Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze and small part by Keanu Reeves there's alot of over the top canadian accents. And Keanu's French-Canadian accent is brutal, lol. So i get what u mean .
what a fantastic story you tell of all of these movies!
Please do Cyborg (1989) next?
Some Van Damme would be cool
Chris Stoner Hell yeah, we need some, van damme it
Oh that's wicked. I watched that recently and I feel like it's so under rated. There's a great tribute video to that film with one of Perturbator's incredible songs called Death Squad - ruclips.net/video/Iy9PEq4n7Zs/видео.html
Johny40Se7en DUDE. That tribute vid was sick.
I know EVERYTHING about Point Break, greatest movie ever
