Syndication or reruns are not the same all over the US. It is solely dependent on the station. That episode was never played for me on the West Coast and networks I watched it on as well as many other across the US. Others did and it depended on the decade too. The stations are the ultimate deciders of what and how much gets shown.

I remember seeing it when it originally aired, and in reruns after that. We only had a black and white TV, so when they started advertising during the opening credits "Gilligan's Island, now in color!" I asked my mom what that meant, because it was still in B/W on our TV. Well, I didn't know that TV's were either B/W or color TVs.
Yes, much less commercial time back then, so all these old shows I love, when shown on TV today, are hacked up and cut short in order to get all the extra commercials in. It's a shame.

I remember the original ending. It was very funny. But I think today's showings are so trimmed down to accommodate more commercials that we lose so much. The Pickle story on Andy Griffith suffers from this. Sometimes they cut out the Aunt Bee is making marmalade now scene. MASH also suffers alot from this. I've been watch MASH for the better part of 50 years, and I'm still pleasantly surprised when I finally se some of these trimmed scenes.
Keep up the good work Rick.
