GTFOH, a great video Minty well done. The first Beverly Hills Cop is a legendary classic and one the finest R-RATED comedies ever. Murphy's humour is what sells this movie, it never would have as well with Stallone. That would have been a Rocky/Rambo style clone which Stallone was synonymous with at the time. This is still by far the best movie Murphy has ever made. It's a shame he's toned down that potty mouth and gone all PC with his silly family movies.

Minty, the one song that pops in my head when i think of the first Beverly Hills Cop is Stir It Up - Patti Labelle. It plays when he first pulls up into Beverly Hills and he's driving down the road in his shitbox nugget mobile while everyone else around is in brand new (at the time) Mercedes Benz's and Porsches, Eddie's cruising with a big smile on his face not a care in the world and the song is up beat and joyful, suits that scene perfectly.
I had heard in another interview, that when Stallone turned it down, he recommended Eddie because the two were good friends. Also, that when Beverly Hills Cop 2 came out, Stallone asked Eddie for the 'Cobra' plug (him to mention Cobra in someway thus the poster shot) which Eddie insisted to the director on having in the film for Stallone.
*trying to pick jaw up off the floor* ?!?!?!?!?!?! I don't know what's weirder, that Rocky almost stared or the fact Cronenberg almost directed. Great video Minty!!

Funny thing is. Both versions of Beverly Hills script were made. 1984-1987 were the biggest period in 1980's for huge movies. Robocop, Highlander, Aliens, Big Trouble in Little China, Lethal Weapon, Rambo 2, Commando, Predator and many more.
Can't believe the tragic career end of the director of this film. He did this, then Midnight Run with Deniro, he did Scent of a Woman which gave Pacino his first ever Oscar in a lead role. Then he did Meet Joe Black which a number of people liked despite its box office flop. Then he did Gigli which killed his career. It took two films to destroy his career. What a waste as he has never directed anything since.
WTF? How do you go from Scent of a Woman to Gigli? I wasn't mad at Meet Joe Black...it was a middling offering and shouldn't have contributed as much to his downfall. But Gigli? I mean, if you know anything about filmmaking, it's the most collaborative medium. And with so many moving parts, any number of factors can turn a film into a flaming turd pile. I just don't understand how he didn't see it for what it was as they were making it.
This was the first R rated movie I saw as a kid and to this day it is still one of my all time favorite movies Eddie Murphy is still one of my favorite comedians :)

The only little thing I might quip about is that in 1990 the Commodore 64 was about ten years old. It was the first PC (before the term existed) available for sale here in the USA, but I think Apple's computers had eclipsed it into oblivion within a few years of their own introduction. The graphics for the first video game look like Nintendo-era stuff, as the Atari 2600 console (the closest console I can think of to a Commodore) didn't have that good of graphics . Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon were some good cop movies, and since both Lethal Weapon and the equally fun Magnum P.I. have been rebooted (with Lethal Weapon imploding, sadly, due to internal conflicts), maybe BHC can get a go. What the hell, if the studios can't come up with a lot of original stuff, why not mine the best of the past? Good video mate (that's speaking Australian! I learned that from a Foster's commercial!).
Preston Owens Eddie Murphy was only 20 when he made his Hollywood debut with 48 Hours in 1981 to be released in 1982 as he was on Saturday Night Live before that and was only 19 when was cast on Saturday Night Live in 1980. Yes he was only 23-24 during the time of the original Beverly Hills Cop film released in 1984.

I could’ve sworn that Beverly Hills Cop earned most of its box office take in 1985, since it wasn’t distributed to theaters until December of ‘84. The mistake which Harold made in bringing his killer theme music to British television was not doing what Jan hammer and Chick Corea we’re doing at that same point and playing the melody on a keytar. Much more hip, in the moment and salable. Where did you find those cover tunes that you included at the beginning, Minty?
Damn , this had so many great lines and is still one of Eddie Murphy's best films. I've always liked this better than some of his others like coming to America. Yeah that might piss people off but Murphy was hilarious in this. Can't imagine anyone else playing Axl but Eddie. Great video Minty

Eddie is just blessed. He is in the top 5 greatest entertainers of All time. And richest.
I remember when it was released. I was in college and movie posters of the film was everywhere
I saw it in theatres in 1984, I got my grandmother to take me, the 13yr old me loved it, grandma not so much.
dear Minty
my name is Dominik, i come from Poland , i am a big fan of your movies on YT, its great that you are showing us the things that we may not know about some movies, my favorite is predator, in 80s in Poland it was very hard to get movies from USA, it illegal, 80s are my favorite times and it was very hard to get to toys , or comics, or movies in Poland, the same goes for car toys, i would like to thank you for the great job you are doing, and the whole information we are getting from you, . 80 for ever and the same goes for the music
Don Simpson was not the executive producer on BHC he was the main producer along with Jerry Bruckheimer
What a waste as he has never directed anything since.
gutz1981 I think the majority of the people who saw Meet Joe Black were there for the Phantom Menace trailer.
I loved Meet Joe Black.
@@RonieDoll Same. Was a very nice movie. One of my dad's favourites.
@@zombiTrout Rather ironic, as it turned out Meet Joe Black was probably more entertaining than the Phantom Menace....
One of my favorite series ever! I have to watch 2 and 3 again though, as I've watched one at least 4 times.
This was the first R rated movie I saw as a kid and to this day it is still one of my all time favorite movies Eddie Murphy is still one of my favorite comedians :)
That rating was really farcical considering the lack of genuine violence or profanity, even for it's era....
One of my all time faves so I was excited to watch this and yes, I learnt a few things. So thanks for your hard work. Also, how cool your backdrop is and crammed with so many iconic references. My faves have to be the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, Jason's mask and Marty's cap. Keep up the cracking work!
When his friend gets executed at the beginning that to me is the most sobering moment of any film! Truly shocks me
I can say the words to the entire movie thanks to me and my brother watching it OVER and OVER again for like two years. LOL I love it.
BONUS: Jerry Bruckheimer is a Mumford Highschool Alumni a school in Detroit.
The Chief of Police in the movie (Gil Hill) was the actual Detroit Police Chief at the time.
Gil Hill was never chief of police. He was an inspector at the time of the first movie and retired at the rank of commander in 1989.
@@synitaluckey5630 you're correct. I should leave this stuff to the Professional (Minty) 👍
I remember when he ran for mayor back in the early 2000s when I was still living in Detroit
Great video as always Minty! I truly appreciate your love for pretty much all the movies and lore I grew up with in the 80s and 90s. Much thanks

Every time I see this movie I always remember how cute Lisa Eilbacher is.
Totally, wondering how many roles she would have lost out to Ellen Barkin over the years
The first thing I watched as soon as I got up this morning with my coffee. I love that movie

Great video, Minty. The Beverly Hills Cop movies are three of my favourites - so, thanks 👌
The original soundtrack release apparently had one song on it that was subsequently removed from later releases
What song was that?
Among the many memorable 80s movies, Beverly Hills Cop would be in my top 10 most iconic 80s flicks. Top Gun, Ghostbusters, Aliens, Terminator, Conan, ET, Red Dawn, The Karate Kid, Platoon, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Goonies, The Lost Boys, Conan, would all be considerations on this difficult-to-make list.
Personally I think Coming To America is his crowning masterpiece.
That's second to BHC. :)
Coming to America is Amazing and I agree at the top, my list
1. Coming to America
2.Bevily Hills Cop
3 Trading Places
4 Boomerang

Easily one of my personal favourite 80s comedy's, no scratch that, easily one of my personal favourite comedy's ever!
10 things you didn't know about Bad Boys- Will Smith & Martin Lawrence.
This was such a great movie. Amazingly, it still stands up today. It aged very well.
Best film of 1984
Jeff, somehow I knew you’d be here in record time. Lol
Ghostbusters, the karate kid and Terminator is up there aswell
Footloose is up there
I can't really list a favorite movie that year, all I can say is 1984! (Year I was born too)
It's just one of those years where basically everything is cinema gold.
Terminator wins by a landslide
Harold Faltermeyer score is so iconic and memorable, I love humming that main tune.

This movie and Die Hard changed how people looked at cops. It was a very good movie. I was watch Cobra the movie with my wife and we read about it and Beverly Hills Cop. I'm so happy you talked about it. Great job Minty!
Being a Detroiter I loved Beverly Hills Cop for it show how a cop from Detroit had more street smart and sophistication than the cops in California
I LOVE how Axel outsmarted all those folks.
The early-mid 80s were THE BEST time to go to the movies.
Cheap AND great movies nonstop. I miss those days
Never been here this early before on your videos! 6am here in the states. Good morning!
You and me both
One of your better reviews for presentation, detail, and accuracy. Well done.

Jeff from WorldClassBullshitters will love this. It's one of his favorite movies. Well done Minty. And I can't get that theme outta my head thanks alot LOL!
Do "Raising Arizona". That's my favorite movie.
Eddie has the funniest laugh I have ever heard.
Not only one of the best movies of its year or period. One of the best movies ever made. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Minty! ...again! LOL
Eddie Murphy was 23 in Beverly Hills Cop? Dude, I must be developmentally delayed or something.

S3ct1on Th1rt33n thank you, I was just about to state this. It’s almost like he has never seen the film lol
@@stylercreations I know lol he is usualy on point for an Aussie so we will let him off 🤣
He also pronounces some words that end in a with er instead. Highly annoying.
“Good morning captain“, Minty troubles to give us a disclaimer in the comments section of this video. It’s his natural Aussie dialect coming across.
Sorry but he is saying it correctly. My last name is Foley, and i went to a summer camp with camp Counselors from Scotland, England and Australia. And minty is saying it how my Australian counselor says it. Just because a person with a different dialect then you says something with an accent, doesn't mean it is incorrect.
gonna insult a person from boston for saying Pahk vs Park?
I've been watching your videos all day, came for coming to America and now I've watched a whole bunch of these, good work clearly a passion
"You're not going to the fall for the banana in the tailpipe?"
One of my favorite Eddie's cop movie. Feel sad, got to watch this movie in 2010's. Any ways minty thanks for the video.
Peter Griffin's rendering of the Foley theme is a masterpiece 😎 🎶
