I loved the first movie, but the sequels dropped maybe the most important aspect of the theme. The Gibson character was suicidal. That's what emboldens him, and WHY he just. doesn't. care. what the outcome of the conflict might be.
And Busey! I really believe he IS the characters he plays. Creepy guy.
