I remember sitting and talking to Kitt at world expo in Brisbane 1988, dont know who the voice was but it sounds like the real McCoy, one of my all time childhood favourite shows
The "self driving" car with the additional steering wheel on the passenger side actually did not exist until the 3rd season of the show and was a re-purpose of the first season hero car. Thus, you can never see David Hasselhoff getting in or out the car when it had to seemingly drive autonomously. Until then, the blind-drive seat was installed on the driver's side. You can see this for example in the pilot episode: After KITT dumps the car thieves and drives back to the gas station on its own, you can see the stunt driver's hands disappearing in the fabric when the car pulls up to Michael Knight. ;-)
Val Kilmer was the voice of KITT in the final reboot. As a fan of the OG series the last reboot was just too over the top and "need for speed" influenced. The stunts are what made the original shows, similar to Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team etc, no CGI used. Fans lost their minds when Universal started using model cars in scenes, so when the reboot came out with outrageous CGI stunts it was never going to pull much of an audience.
I got to sit and talk to KITT as a kid at Universal Studios Hollywood. KITT was staged on platform in a small lake. They had someone talking through KITT answering guests questions. We asked where was Michael and he said he was at home watching the Rose Parade on TV. Lol
I sat in the actual car. I was 8 years old. It was at a car show in Toledo sports arena in 1984. I distinctly remember it because i was confused that there was a basketball game playing on the monitor inside the car.
In the game Forza Horizon 5 you can drive KITT if you buy the Universal studios car pack, it also features the Super pursuit mode as a bodykit option 👍
Yes and no. The Pontiac Banshee being a real concept car, was the basis for the look they were going for, but it wasn’t a real Banshee because they couldn’t get the prototype from GM. They used a Dodge Stealth as the mock up frame to build a Banshee like body on for the movie. Kinda like how Miami Vice used a Pantera to make a Fake Ferrari Testarossa for the stunt driving and a Corvette chassis for the Daytona in the earlier episodes. Driving a real Daytona or Testarossa around skidding sideways would have been expensive if they were damaged and if they could have used the real Banshee it would have been impossible to fix or replace since it was a prototype concept car. Would have been awesome if they had gone into production with the Banshee, I always loved the look of it.
@@robertgriffin662 That link I just added is three years old now I just noticed, so it’s probably sold by now I’d imagine. Still interesting information about the car and it’s history though….
Absolutely loved the show! I wanted the car as a toy and also the a-team van but the only car I got or purchased was the one from starsky and hutch. And now I’m going to look online if there are K.I.T.T toys still available. It was a good choice for the voice of K.I.T.T. To have it sound more like a human than a robot.
Thanks for this video. Worth mentioning there’s a YT channel named KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial who have info on the cars, trucks, locations, actors, stunts, etc. Worth a watch if you’re a fan of the show.
Knight Rider, Airwolf, Automan, Street Hawk, Blue Thunder, Manimal, The Bionic Man, The Incredible Hulk, V, Dukes of Hazard, A Team so much great stuff when was a kid.
The other reason for the car being called KITT and not TATT is because someone pointed out what TATT means in the UK (ie: trash). So, realising they wanted to export the show to the UK and the implcations of using the TATT acronym would have to the show's success, they went with KITT.
K. I. T. T.'s creator, Wilton Knight, was played by Richard Basehart in the pilot episode "Knight of the Phoenix", he also did the opening/closing narration, and is noted for playing Adm. Harriman Nelson, designer-builder of the nuclear super submarine USS Seaview in the TV version of Irwin Allen's Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. K. I. T. T's voice, William Daniels was also Dr. Mark Craig in St. Elsewhere.
As much as I liked Darth's big rig, Goliath, I really wanted Garth and K.A.R.R. to team up. Though the big team ups would have been Knight Rider/A-Team, or Knight Rider and one of the other vehicle shows (Automan, Blue Thunder and Street Hawk).
I wanted the Goliath truck as a toy so bad that I modified a cheap flea market toy truck and put a broken piece of a cars grill to the front of the truck and painted it grey.
I actually quite liked the more recent reboot K.I.T.T.'S voice was actually done by val kilmer. Although it only got 1 season it's worth a watch..But why No "Big Screen " Knight-Rider movie yet I wonder..Chris Pratt as Michael Knight anyone?.🤔
MAN!!!! I GD ❤ THAT'S SHOW. I WAS 6. WHEN IT'S SMARTED. THE 🚗 OF THE FUTURE... IT'S WAS MF SHARP. ALL BLK. NOW WE GOT CARS THAT'S DO TALK. I GOT A 🚗 THAT'S TALKS. IT'S A EQUINOX 2010... IT'S WHITE. I WISH IT'S WAS BLACK ... K.R. WILL 4EVER B IN MY ❤️....
Another fact: because of the show’s popularity, Garmin produced an automobile GPS device with the K.I.T.T. voice.
I wanted it but couldn't afford it at the time.
Damn that is awesome I didn't know that thank you for sharing!
K.A.R.R. should have had a goatee.
Technically he did. That car was black with silver trim so you could argue that is a goatee.
@ I’ll buy that!
Yes! Like benders twin!
I remember sitting and talking to Kitt at world expo in Brisbane 1988, dont know who the voice was but it sounds like the real McCoy, one of my all time childhood favourite shows
Knight Rider is Classic 80's!

Watched it when I was younger but not a fan. Bought the series on dvd and really love it now

I watched in disbelief when they made Mustang KITT into a transformer. KITT could turn into a F-150. SMH 🤦🏻

Cool!
I sat in it as well at the World of Wheels car show in Springfield, Illinois around 1986 or so. Great experience!

9:49: Kitt was a Pontiac banshee prototype not a dodge stealth! In knightrider 2000

@Lastactionhero101 and wasn't mentioned in the video. I know that is a banshee mock-up I didn't know a stealth was used as frame .

Great channel for KR fans!
I remember that Different Strokes crossover 😂😂. Man Garth and Karr were great storylines
Knight Rider, Airwolf, Automan, Street Hawk, Blue Thunder, Manimal, The Bionic Man, The Incredible Hulk, V, Dukes of Hazard, A Team so much great stuff when was a kid.
8:50
That doesn't looks like *Willis* to me.
Am I wrong?
(wasn't that Arnold's friend Dudley?)
Loved this show as a kid. 🥳🥳
Knight rider 2000 was not a dodge stealth. It was a Pontiac banshee. A prototype.
The other reason for the car being called KITT and not TATT is because someone pointed out what TATT means in the UK (ie: trash). So, realising they wanted to export the show to the UK and the implcations of using the TATT acronym would have to the show's success, they went with KITT.
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!!!!!
I was totally feeling the ford mustang version & feel it should’ve gotten more episode
Great video 👍

Wasn't he also in boy meets world??
Great video on Knight Rider! 1:28 this one isn't well known to me, I wonder if you could provide a source for this? Thank you!
I still drive my old Trans Am it's nothing like KITT though, it's just a normal car lol.
And the reason the other shows failed is because you shouldn't reboot perfection, any 80s kid will agree I reckon!!
That was Arnold and his friend Dudley. Not Willis.
I wanted the Goliath truck as a toy so bad that I modified a cheap flea market toy truck and put a broken piece of a cars grill to the front of the truck and painted it grey.
I never knew that Micheal Knight's evil twin was also played by David Hasselhof.
Same. Did you also know that Christopher Reeve was both Clark Kent & Superman? Blew my mind.
The real Nightrider drove a HQ Holden Monaro.
William Daniels was Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World 🤘
And also John Adams in the movie “1776”.
And Dustin Hoffman's (Ben) father in "The Graduate"
I actually quite liked the more recent reboot K.I.T.T.'S voice was actually done by val kilmer. Although it only got 1 season it's worth a watch..But why No "Big Screen " Knight-Rider movie yet I wonder..Chris Pratt as Michael Knight anyone?.🤔
Yeah man I would watch that.
Lone Ranger on wheels. Good one. 😅Only thing is KITT is not a horse. 🤔
It has horse power 🤷🏾♀️
The new knight rider ran 18 episodes not 17. I have that season and I know for sure there's 18 episodes.
KITT was a reverse engineered Cylon
Michael Knight, was a loan crusader who lived in a very dangerous fucken world
That's Dudley not Willis.
Knight Rider
There were only 4 seasons, not 6 😉
Who is that noit rider? ;-)
Never noticed that when I was a child but Michael Knight has a Winsor knot in his tie. See 5.01! Very unusual for an 'merican! All the best...
Wasn't michael knight garths doppelganger, as Micheal long underwent plastic surgery to look like garth. Pedantic I know but true😂😂😂

I was more of a baywatch fan
