I'm pretty sure that if i go back to what i remember of my bible studies Jesus said lead by example. he never attempted to persuade or force others to do as he did. If i recall correctly he also blasted his fanatical follower St Paul for trying to convert people instead of letting them come to faith based on their own experience.
