    Those were great tips on the hoses and vents, so many homes have the inferior parts because people cheap out on them. I liked their other tip about closing the water service valve when you're not using it that they gave in the other video. Most people don't realize their washing machines hold full pressure 24 hours a day while that valve is open. Like other people commented I'm not a fan of this new technology, communicating for diagnosis, I think it's all marketing waste. If the machine was made well to begin with you would never have to service it. On a dryer that you take care of properly you should at a very maximum only have to replace the belt, perhaps the rollers or idler roller in a reasonable amount of time. Now with all of this very sensitive IO that is poorly manufactured on a machine that is constantly vibrating and subject to static charges, power surges and strikes, and high heat, it's no wonder why they would fail. Don't get me wrong, I think sensory information is awesome, and the more the better, but it's a dryer, not a motor vehicle! I have an old Maytag that is probably 25 years old and runs almost as good as the day it was made. Granted it's not as efficient as others made today, but the original motor and heating element and major components are still there. I've only replaced the rollers and belt (after 20 years!).

    For my washer, I keep the water shut off values closed when not in use. It's easy if the values are modern shutoff values because it's just one quick partial turn. Even when using the washer, I only open the cold water value. (Many people don't realize with the new detergents, you can get by with cold water on most laundry loads perfectly well. The only exception is diapers and such. So I have one quick turn of my cold shutoff valve when i start the wash, and one quick turn back when done with the wash. Takes 2 seconds out of my time, but gives me peace of mind that I don't have to ever worry about my hoses bursting when I am away because they are not under pressure. I don't worry about changing them every 5 years either. Even if they do burst I'm right there, not away from home.

    I've never had a burst hose but I did have excessive water pressure which forced its way thru my washer's cutoff and filled the tub to overflowing. That is why they put faucet handles next to washers and that is why I use them.

    The electronics in these new machines are a nightmare, not only for the owner but for the technician trying to explain to the owner that their 2 year old appliance isn't worth repairing due to a major component failure, or multiple failures. Power surges will kill these appliances. It happened a couple years ago not too far from where I live. Seemed everyone's appliances in that area were effected, many required expensive repairs or total replacement. A less complicated non-electronic controlled appliance will most likely last longer, give the customer fewer problems, and require less phone calls to a repair technician.
    Those front load washers & dryer sets are our number 1 call for service on a weekly basis. Those still using the old style non-electronic top load washers and non-electronic dryers only need serviced once in a great while, a belt breaks, agitator kit replacements, dryer vent cleaning every few years very cheap to repair and virtually no maintenance.
    Washer hoses are another thing that customers want to cheap out on, yet in a couple years when the hose bursts its everyone's fault but theirs because they wanted that $5 hose rather than a $20 hose that will last twice as long and not be prone to bursting.

      I bought a new Samsung front load washer and it has so many problems. The sensors are always failing which causes it to turn itself off. The door sometimes won't unlock. Other times the door leaks water. This is after only two years of ownership. Meanwhile my parents are still using their 20 year old washer without issue.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 лет назад +3

      FunkyWeezy Tons of issues similar to yours that we work on every week. I'd say about 90-95% of the repairs are on these newer machines that are full of electronics. Ridiculous prices on them and they don't work very well for very long before they start giving customers problems. My next washer and dryer set will be a Speed Queen. Built in the USA, 3 year factory warranty on the base models, 5 year factory warranty on their electronic models, and they are extremely quiet. They actually aren't all that expensive compared to other brand machines that are built to last 5 years if you are lucky. Speed Queen is saying their machines are built on a 25 year life expectancy. Many laundry mats use the coin operated Speed Queen machines.

Better to just check the hoses for rust or bubbles after 5 years, because who of us remembers the exact year when we last replaced the hoses anyway ? To me the best solution of all (if you have modern type shutoff values) is to just shut the water supply off to the washer when not in use. Then I don't worry about the hoses ever.

Take a waterpass place it horizontal/vertical on your machine and install the feet at a point where it gets balanced. done changing your hose every 5 years is unnecessary unless you are a rat and chew on the hose.

    They still aren't quoting the code on the venting. You must use rigid beyond 8ft. from the appliance or where it penetrates floors, walls or ceilings. Flexible transition duct is approved only for the first 8ft. from the appliance, cannot be spliced, must be stretched out so it doesn't say and have that rough inner surface he talked about and is listed to UL 2158a. That semirigid aluminum flex is NOT approved. Most mfrs. will void the warranty if improper venting used. No screws in joints except one 1/4" screw now allowed. Male end must point away from the appliance. Termination can NOT have bird screen.
    Washing machines should have water hammer arrestors because of fast closing water inlet valves main cause of burst hoses. Good idea to use a flood control water valve and put a cheap battery wet alarm on floor. If finished walls or flooring washer needs to sit in a pan to drainage. Need to inspect venting min. annually and sweep as needed. >15K reported dryer vent fires/ yr.

    braided stainless steel hoses are more prone to breakage than the old rubber hoses. many of these hoses are made in china. the quality of these hoses are horrible. on the surface they look durable but are not.

    "And a dryer that male-functions" How does a dryer 'male-function'? Does it make your clothes wet again?

      MisterBrauer - a dryer male-functions when you put fresh clean underwear in and they develop “bacon-strips” as they dry. From time to time the washer will ask the dryer “do you even use toilet paper ? “

    Vibration pad, good solution? o_O Only to compensate the flaw manufacturers make.
    The old way this was done by german manufacturers was to put massive concrete blocks into the machine so the machine won't "walk" away during the spin cycle. That's the reason why the older washing machines made by german manufacturers wight round about 100kg (220 lbs). Miele still manufactures machines which weigh 96kg, the others are only round about 60 or 70kg. But Miele is expensive.

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 6 лет назад

      Marcel Germann agreed, Miele make the best appliances. They are actually weighted with cast iron, not concrete- cast iron is even denser. If money is an issue, a basic Miele is a much better option than a "top of the range" model by anyone else. Even the cheapest Miele comes with a 5 year guarantee, and often they do promotions extending this to ten years. They are designed for 20 years typical use and I have one that is still going after 26 years and three owners.

      @Marcel_Germann 6 лет назад

      Ok, didn't knew that. The other manufacturers put concrete blocks into the housings. Actually it doesn't matter, the thing is the machines must have weight. Otherwise you'll get problems.

    This is what happens when you sent our manufacturing jobs overseas. The quality of the material is cheap materials. The company makes the same products and just adds a different name whether it's Samsung, whirlpool or any other brand name.

    *Blinks rapidly* High Efficency soap? For a front loader? Normal laundry detergent works absolutely fine, and most of Europe ONLY got front loaders... We use liquid laundry soap, powder, pods, all the same stuff the US uses too... *facepalms* Just add as much as it says in the manual, and HE Soaps are a pure rip off...

      most detergent nowadays is only high efficiency detergent it's almost impossible to find non he detergent as making two types of detergent would be too expensive so the stuff your using is likely he detergent that will work in both types of machines.
