- In 2008, the first black president was elected in the United States and the worst financial crisis in almost a century brought the world’s economy to its knees. Since then, a form of domestic terror has been on the rise in America and abroad. But it’s not the kind of terror we’re used to hearing about.
Militia groups and neo-nationalists here and around the world have been growing bolder, more popular and more powerful. VICE's Ben Makuch investigates the origins of these militia groups and explores the driving force behind the militia movement today. In order to do so, he travels to the place where it all began: the Michigan State militias.

Nicholas Jarrett When people who don't know a lot about firearms talk about them, they always go overboard by calling AR-15's a high powered assault rifle, when really, they aren't considered, by the engineers that design them, to be "high powered". My pistol joke references how these people mistake, or most likely intentionally refer to these pistols this way for the purpose of shock value. When you say a gun is automatic, that means that you can hold the trigger down, and the mechanism is designed to rapidly fire, and eject the casing. My point is that certain people use the word automatic when it is truly semi-automatic. I really cannot tell you if a lot of reporters do this for shock value, or if they truly don't understand the difference. Maybe a little of both, I suppose. Oh, and sorry that this comment is so long.
+Nicholas Jarrett An "assault rifle" denotes select fire capability. ( semi auto AND full auto) which requires a class 3 license, which are very unattainable and extremely expensive. Also virtually zero of the legal class 3 firearms are used in crimes. The problem with most of the populations view on firearms is that their info is given to them by people who know nothing about firearms or do but choose to deceive them.

Its kinda funny, when you think about it. During Huricane Katrina, the police left, leaving militias and groups of people to protect thier homes and family. When the hurricane ended, and military returned, they took all the firearms (historical or not , they were all destroyed). After confiscation , gangs came in for 'revenge' on alot of the homes, and forced people to leave their once safe homes.

The British monarchy (which is also the Canadian one) is limited in what they can do by things like the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights 1689 and various newer legislation. The US bill of rights actually stems from the English bill of rights and most of the US legal system is based off of English common law.
King Tanyard there are truths in that. However they failed the secure freedom of speech and the right to defend oneself with the most effective tools. Seems like they wanted that power for the king and queen, not their peasants. Sad to see it that way. I do see the similarities though.
