"It is not physically possible for the government to take care of everybody on a large scale crisis" Hard fucking facts. No blame. No ridicule. All personal responsibility. Respect.
That is true to an extent as the further away you are from a military base during a SHTF situation the less likely you are to receive any form of help. The trade off for that help is effectively marshal law as the military which needs resources as well will move out into the surrounding areas to control said resources. And will provide security on a broader scale but still you would be giving up many freedoms for that security. The reality is that the military represents at most 1% of the population. Law enforcement will also try to maintain some level of security but it would be very localized. So yeah the government can't protect you as an individual and won't bother to try.
Sometimes crisis comes from dysfunctional community that starts to panic buy. The local market near me run out of toilet papers, rice and flour in less than a day for months. Because people simply bought and stored things for no fucking reason.

I liked the quote "I'm not living for doomsday, I'm living for Tuesday." I think it's a much more positive outlook. Doomsday preppers are always seeming represented as these crazed loons who wish for armageddon and hate society and all that it stands for, but clearly, that is not true. They are just prepared and don't want to be caught out in the open with their pants down. I can respect that. I think when they start disassociating from society, hauled up in some bunker, thinking crazy thoughts, and being a shut-in, that is when it turns unhealthy. This approach however is a good one.
Why do you care what they do with their own life? Their decisions won't affect you at all. Who are you to judge them as crazy or unhealthy? I am glad about the rest of your thoughts on the subject though.
@@commonsence8223 I care because it's very sad to me that people would rather choose to withdraw completely from living. I believe some preppers are really as crazed and focused on the "inevitable" downfall of society in our lifetime. This group isn't, and I agree this just seems like a way to live that they can enjoy today and also be ready. I mean this guy is still buying mutual funds lol. He's prepared for anything. But I don't think they are the overwhelming majority of what is seen as a "doomsday prepper".
Seems like a reasonable man to me. “Should you buy mutual funds or beans and rice…Yes, you should do both.” Nothing wrong with preparedness and I kinda like the idea of being self sufficient.

This was by far the best story I think Vice has covered. She'd a little light on some decent people that are sometimes misunderstood. In today's day and age if someone can't relate to being prepared to some level or degree than maybe they should be. These seem like great people in a great community with a positive vibe. They just wanna live their lives by what they think God would want and they don't at all seem like they are out to hurt anyone that's for sure. The more I learn about this community it seems to me they want to help other's. Being a little more self sufficient in times where society is so dependent on the system seems like something we could all use more of. And these people are more than willing to share their knowledge and what works for them. Ofcourse we are all different but I'm grateful there are still people out there that offer advice just because it's the decent thing to do.

Actually a prepper running a business that sells survival supplies is a great idea, because at any given time you'll have a massive stock of that kind of supplies. And instead of spending money maintaining and replacing that stock, you're making money rotating it out. The people running the first aid kit supplier have a mutual support agreement with the group selling shelf-stable rations, and with the hand tool suppliers, and with the ammo distributor, etc. That alone, the array of businesses and the social network among them, means very little extra effort in "prepping" required.
But also you're recognized for having everything you... And not saying where you are isn't enough nowadays - image tracing will expose exactly where they are, who they are... Today I pumped in a video where they showed they can find a person just by a parcial photo of your hand... By veins, etc. If one wants to be anonymous it's really hard to be in a public position. Everyone who knows about you and your activity might be a traitor - enemy.
@@cheebacheeo5876 Will you provide a link to this video please? I'm not sure how this could be possible since there is no national database of vein formations on people's hands. Furthermore, in an actual SHTF situation, the possibility exists the Internet will not be a usable asset. I don't think you'll see very much image tracing if no one can get online.
I thought the same thing when I watched an episode of warrior poet society when they were interviewing a guy who sells pepper food buckets. Very smart.
@@spacetimeworm What I meant was that their little group is prepared as a side effect of their business activities. And after a disaster they can continue to help each other. I didn't mean they would continue their business as usual.
I live in the Ozarks and outside of any city/town 10k>, basically everyone is a "prepper" as a matter of a way of life because living off the land is what we do and we generally enjoy it. We don;t look at ourselves as "preppers" per se. Just like alot of big city folks can't fathom why anyone would want to live this lifestyle, we can't fathom why anyone would want to live in a big city (but alot could live in a big city if we wanted to tomorrow, but i don't think you could say the same thing about the opposite). And although we like to think of ourselves as independent, the fact is we have to rely on those around us sometimes w no "strings attached", so there is a strong sense of community that seems to bind people closer here than say in a large metro area. We all know our neighbors and our neighbor's neighbor like family (even though we don't always get along all the time). If one really wants to see and learn how to be self prepared, just spend some time w the Amish or Native Americans who were taught by their ancestors.

"People in the year 1000 thought the world was ending, people who lived through the plague thought the world was ending- I think it's more relevant to your life to look at what could be a natural disaster for *you*." Very level headed advice, love it.
She was the one with the most wisdom I thought and was a good educator too. I started prepping & moving towards self sufficiency when I was 25 after breaking my legs in a car accident and being out of work for a year. Later on when my husband was injured in the military and required round the clock medical care I didn’t have to stress about finances, food and I could spend that time with him helping him heal.
People are more concerned of "todays world" ending. Like how it took 300 years for the world to begin to unfuck itself after the bronze age collapse and after every empire collapse that happens rather commonly throughout history. Basically people want their family's to not suffer as much as the last group of people had to in hard times.

Many might think this level of planning is absurd. Certainly, some might simply choose to suffer the consequences of what may come. I have traveled to more than 15 countries and live in 5 outside of the U.S. I've commanded soldiers on 3 continents and once in combat. It's been said, war is hell and for those who have been through it, they never want to repeat it. It's hard to appreciate the tranquility that law and order brings to the civility of a society. What's shocking to a society that is used to relative civility is to be suddenly faced with mayhem and pandemonium. I've seen it in the eyes of refugees. It is one thing to choose pain and suffering for yourself but when it comes upon those you love, desperation sets in to stop their suffering. These groups are preparing not only for their survival but the anticipation of desperate people who otherwise would not take drastic measures. It's an old story of the survival of man which is mostly unfamiliar to modern America.
Well articulated. I think that, just like with everything else, with prepping too you better have a backup plan to support yourself regarding any of your basic needs. My parents never grew a single edible thing until they got old, and my father grew tomatoes in a 4x6 space. When I was a small boy, we always had enough food, but the compromise was in the quality. Mom and Dad had 6 kids total, the last one after the two oldest were already gone from home, otherwise, the compromises would have been harmful. I grew up on corn flakes and hotdogs. In my time I have taught myself how to effectively grow enough food for my family to survive with no income, if necessary. I realized that I could never stockpile enough canned goods and flour to survive more than a few months. Do the math. If I have to feed myself, my wife, our 4 children and their families, I would need thousands of cans of food and 1500 lbs of flour, just to make it through one winter. We learned how to preserve meat, and vegetables for long term storage, and we learned how to grow high value food crops that can sustain us for the 6 months of the year, when nothing edible is available on the ground. Preparing to protect what we have is a secondary function, but one that we take seriously. No, we are not moving up to the mountains, and we are not getting ready for Jesus. We are preparing to have as normal a life as possible, until society recovers and the grocery stores reopen. Off-grid will not be a choice people make when the grid fails. I can generate electricity from burning wood. I can heat my home with wood. I can get water from a well, and hunt the small game that is abundant where I am, and I am not way out in fly-over country. You would be surprised how much living one can extract from a few acres, and the adjacent woods. We're not preppers. We are just capable of making our own food, if need be.

Most of America believes Biden is not calling the shots, Politicians are giving themselves huge pay raises while the average middle class American is losing more money. The class gap is getting bigger. The richer keep getting more rich and the middle class is becoming the low class/poverty class. And the most horrifying thing is that the US Government is experimenting with Human embryos and mixing them with animals.... Literally making Mutants. The US Government cannot be trusted. They are way to corrupt.
Came here prepared for a hit piece, pleasantly surprised to see a well documented story about people who are just ahead of the curve when SHTF. Good on you to make them human and not portray them as fanatic zealots! You just moved Vice up a notch in my book, now you currently sit at -499
I have to say that this was a pretty balanced and kind mini docu. It's actually what i respect vice for and this makes me happy that they still do this. Some of their other stuff is very partisan these days.
The irony is that the Bear guy literally made fun of people exactly like you when he sarcastically said SHTF BRO, followed by, "I'm not living for Doomsday, I'm living for Tuesday". Funny how lazy internet trolls like you live vicariously through these guys when you're nothing alike. You're nothing but a fear mongering conspiracy theorist, that doesn't make you "self sufficient" by proxy.
Something people get wrong about preppers is that they are convinced and or ready for a literal end of the world scenario like nuclear armageddon or a cataclysmic natural disaster like a meteor strike. You don't want to survive those types of events. If anything, you wanna be at the epicenter so your death is quick and painless. In reality, most preppers are concerned with things like food shortages, chemical pollution, common natural disasters like hurricanes and blizzards, crime, or political instability. I think the most likely worst case scenario for modern society would be an EMP attack. Even if only one powerful nation was EMP'd, the consequences would ripple down to the rest of the world. Whether it's China, the USA, Western Europe, India, Japan, doesn't matter. The economic effect would be devastating worldwide, food chains would collapse, and other goods would stop being exported from the victim(s). No electricity would mean millions would die of heat, cold, or disease. The 2nd most likely SHTF scenario would be political instability. This could come as the form of government tyranny and martial law, or it could come from political division causing armed conflict between extremists, and possibly a civil war/revolution or political domestic terrorism. The chances of these things happening are lower than the news makes it seem, but it's still not impossible, and certainly more likely than a meteor impact or an alien invasion, so they make the most sense to prep for, as they are the most realistic worst case threats to society today. And the good news, as long as nukes, chemical weapons, and WMD's don't get released, these situations will still be survivable and relative normalcy will return in a somewhat short time frame. Could take 5 or even 10 years, but it's doable.
Funny because I've watched both channels. These guys are legit. I have never been a religious type but I plan to live in this sort of fashion myself. Closer to how our ancestors lived, closer to nature, further away from the psychosis of society.

The government as we know it right now isn't interested in taking care of the people anyways.
They want power and control
@@rosssivertson6339 You've missed the point. We all know what you just said,
That is true to an extent as the further away you are from a military base during a SHTF situation the less likely you are to receive any form of help.

The businesses and social network will help for bartering, but in an actual SHTF situation, money, as we know it, will likely be worthless.

@I seek a better place. That's only part of God's plan for us . You're correct that a relationship with God is by far the most important thing. Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments.
Could not agree more. Thank you for your statement and your service.
so true, people wont realize this till the DESPERATION kicks in. If it ever comes to that..
Well articulated. I think that, just like with everything else, with prepping too you better have a backup plan to support yourself regarding any of your basic needs. Safety and hunting (wild) game is just one. What about things like preserving food without a fridge or a steady salt supply if you haven't been foresightful enough to accumulate some bags of salt in your pantry, let alone do some fermented veggies there, to get you by while you figure how to get your own food from then-polluted nature.

There is no threat imposed from preppers.
They are just preparing for the event of threats.
Its everyones god given right to protection.
The 2nd amendment was written to restrict government from imposing restrictions on protection.
"A well regilated militia, necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." means a self regulating self made militia has the right as INDIVIDUALS to keep firearms of THEIR CHOICE TO PROTECT everything they hold dear to them. To stop a tyrannical government in any form, from restricting and hijacking the rights our founders sought to secure for the people.
And to keep ourselves and others safe from criminals and threats large and small.
And to responsible gun owners, that means protecting themselves, family, strangers and innocent people in moments of crisis.

You choose .... or ... you don’t. Your choice. One of the greatest gifts our Father ever gave us. Free will.
You don’t get forced to love the Father .. what kind of love is that when you’re made to give your heart. It has to be ... something you want. Good news ... it’s free. It’s called Salvation. You belong to HIM. You can’t fight if you’re afraid to die. What most folks don’t realize ... you actually do not die. One day your body will cease to function .. and you will come out of it.
