Damn, Canada sounds way more ideal! They want to keep their citizens healthy and smart, I'm down
Alexis Elliott hahaha
Alexis Elliott Yeah but we have to wait months and months for tests and surgeries. The wait times for health care are ridiculous compared to the U.S.
WholeFood Spark oh my
Alexis Elliott Right...I'm moving to Canada! lol
WholeFood Spark such BULLSHIT! i live in one of the most populated cities in Canada and have NEVER had to wait weeks/months for testing or surgeries, stop perpetuating conservative rhetoric to support privatizing our healthcare.
utter and complete nonsense
"In America...there is profit to be made off of the sick" When you put it like that it really sounds awful but it's very true.
And you don't think the government profits on our system here in Canada
@@likeaboss8282 all money is ours it's paid by us in form of taxes and it's held by her majesty's government in her name if they think they're above our sovreign and laws we'll boot them out . they're just normal people like us who we deemed worthy to serve us . they're just public servant and they better act like it .
I'm American and I live in Italy. The Italians have us beat on safety, health, environmental awareness and racism is basically not even a thing. I pay $0.00 to go to one of the best universities in Europe. Americans have Italians beat at making money.
+Tia Taylor Hi, I'm Italian and my dream is to go abroad to study because currently Italy has nothing left to give to us young. I do not agree on the fact of racism because my mother is Indian and my father Italian and I found cases of racism, now I do not know if they can be compared to those found in America because there have never been but isn't true that racism is basically not even a thing because there is.
I don't know, I've been living here for over a year and I've never felt victimized by my race, where as in America it's a constant, everyday thing. Yea italians have problems with people who aren't italian, sure i've been treated differently at times because I'm american and I see how Italians regaurd foreign migrants, but I don't think it's an inherent race thing. That's just my opinion.
im Italian and I live in America, America is way better than Italy for me...
What college do you go to if you don't mind me asking?
Wayne Taylor why?
I was born in Guyana and moved to Canada 5 years ago. I visited Brooklyn,New York for the first time last winter and I got stranded and I guess people thought I was homeless and walked past me when I kept asking for help but I find when I'm lost downtown Toronto no matter how busy someone is they always stop to give directions but I'm not saying one place is more polite than the other but in New York is everyone is always very busy compared to Scarborough. That hits the point that you made about the hustle, it's very real.
Oh SuryaVue, that is something so important, the humanity and compassion side that many people in America don’t seems to care anymore.
Not that they thought you were homeless but ppl here in NY a) don't care or b) think that you're trying to be sneaky and get something from them
This is my own personal experience which is limited to 4 major cities in 2 countries in a 6 min video. USA dominates in sports, entertainment and sciences and is overall the land of opportunity to live the "American Dream" which appeals to the hustlers and dreamers. This is the land of opportunity both of people and corporations alike. Canada has a glass ceiling so if you're too ambitious you may hit that. I love Canada for the foundation it gave me and I love USA for the opportunity it allows for my creativity.
Shameless Maya I definitely agree with everything that you voiced in this video. Growing up in my family it was really every man for themselves. That annoys me because i feel like you instill selfishness into ones brain subconsciously. Families are segregated a lot here. Like no one sit down to enjoy meals together anymore. SO SHAMEFUL....
wow Shameless Maya you spoke so much truth when you touched on the issues of the dollar bill and healthcare. i don't live in the States or Canada but i definitely agree with you on that...great vid!
Shameless Maya the glass ceiling may be a misconception (but you're right about arts). As far as science and technology goes.. we're seeing a brain drain. When it comes to sports that can be a bit misleading as we do have talented sports men and women her, it's just that we have a much smaller pool (population) to work with. Per capita we're doing well though.

Am half Canadian half American half French
I cannot wait to transition to the Canadian life and culture. Everything Canada does I support especially their education system. I told my friends who weren't able to go on the trip, after visiting Montreal, that if I were to bring any child into this world or raise any child already here on this planet, that they would be going to Canadian school. After the EXTREMELY poor( not as in funds poor, but as in priorities, mentalities) school system I went through I would NEVER want any of my children to go through that. I'm only 17 but I'm thinking ahead, and definitely thinking about what kind of life would be best for them, and it isn't a life here in the states.
***** Montreal, not for me. I'm not for french I dropped french for a reason. Also I know Toronto is pretty much the New York of Canada. So I'll try Brampton or some other place, as long as I can drive to it whenever. :)
Ottawa is definitely probably the best place, not only is it the capital, but there is smaller areas right out side the city with awesome houses, everything is very simple to get to! & it is not super busy & not too too expensive like Toronto :)
Devyn Oliver yeah im not looking for that, that's exactly what i'm trying to get away from.i want to be surrounded by people, a bunch of things and places to see and go, etc.
Than yes, definitely so where like Brampton or Mississauga 😊
Devyn Oliver I haven't really looked into it besides having my eyes on the prize aka Toronto and back up Brampton because Lilly aka iisuperwomanii talked about living there To be perfectly honest, as long as long as I'm in Ontario I think I'll be happy regardless, just because I finally made my 14 year dream finally come true..
Proud to be canadian
for what u are proud of... give me a fucking reason
+vincent lemay Your comparison is ridiculous. and pathetic.
Want some salt and pepper? Bruh u jelly?
All the guy said was that he was proud to be Canadian and he needs to justify that to you? I will go out on a limb and assume you are America and proud to be one. So why the fuck are you proud to be one? Are you proud that your country is in debt about 17.8 trillion dollars? Are you proud that the US poverty rate 14.9%? Are you proud that the murder rate is 6.2 (16, 000) per 100, 000 people? Are you proud of the obesity rate? I bet you are also proud of your candidates for president. They seem to be the real cream of the crop.
+BottleFedRocket yep we are proud to be the best country smartest best military university college we invented internet computers electricitys. and so muh more we dominate canada 2nd tourist country 3rd richest country first power 3rd money wise low crime unless in bad part of chicago detroit us population 324,571,239 canadas 31mil.
Born in Hawaii, lived in - Utah, Singapore, grew up mostly in Toronto and finally now in beautiful Vancouver British Columbia Canada! You video was pretty much spot on. I've lived in both countries and there are always pros and cons for both. Great video!!
Maybe I need to take my ass to Canada then. Lol
Love Layefa sure but if you think we pronounce out as oot, the GET THE HELL OUT! jk
Love Layefa yes you do, do yourself a favour.
Don't let the door hit you in the rear.
Love Layefa Canada is made up by 3 major ethic groups Natives,Inuits and Metis(mixed Natives with Europeans) you'll feel out of place real quick among the real people of North America... We are not all dead and gone as people from America like to think.....
🤣🤣🤣
The title should be: why Canada is better than the United States.
have you ever lived in Canada
Well, considering its 102 here right now, your point in invalid. The winters here are very hot and humid.
LOL I meant summers. Summer's are hot and humid.
***** most Canadians would go outside in 26 degree Celsius or 80 degrees Fahrenheit weather considering that is our average summer temperature
considering I already live in Michigan, I'd rather live in Canada cause the US is going nuts
I think it's hard because you're experience of the US is completely different than that of most Americans. Most Americans don't live in major cities but in smaller towns and cities and there experience with family and money and hustle are completely different than LA and New York, which are probably the two US cities most famous for their hustle mentalities.
A small town still doesn't change the price of tuition, or health care. Here in Canada, u get sick, u go to a hospital, clinic, or doctor, no worries. We arent thinking, 'I might have to mortgage my house, if someone in my family gets cancer'. God forbid. I'm sorry that Americans have to go through this b.s. No one should have to worry about their health, over their home.
I've always said "I'm moving to Canada."And it's usually because of everything you've mentioned in this video. Sounds like an amazing place. Would you ever consider moving back?
Cause it really is awesome
No doubt about, I have been thinking as well. America violence, shootings and other stuff increasing, go to think twice and be conscious of your surrounding even going to the grocery now!
Im from Panama. I still don't understand why public schools in the USA don't wear uniforms? Some one told me kids need to express themselves by clothes. I said kids can express themselves before or after school. Wearing uniforms is way cheaper.
judith leon Some do not all tho
Wearing uniforms in the U.S. is not worth the money they charge us. You could buy a full outfit and it'll barely last you a year coupled with the fact that each time you grow that's more money for you to shell out. Some retail stores have started selling basic khakis and polos so that people who can't afford the official uniform could at least look like they're satisfying the dress code but most schools like my middle school had custom designs and colors and made it impossible to replicate for a cheaper price & better quality. I rather us wear our own clothes especially in the elementary-middle school grade levels. High school is only four years and that's doable since you don't grow as much as you do in the younger grades.
danicoleb5394 thank you for point of view.
***** were do you live in the USA, maybe I should move over there the coast of regular clothes for kids are way to expensive.
judith leon I'm from the States and my daughter goes to public school and wears a uniform. I know growing up I didn't wear one and the thought of it made me cringe. I did not want to wear the same thing as everyone else.
Canada also has poutine, ketchup chips etc :P
Yes POUTINE!!!!
America has chicken and waffles. Whoever thought of that was genius!! Canada has Montreal smoked beef. Yum!
Beautylicioustips OMG ketchup chips!!!
Joyce Lee chicken and waffle issnt specific to America..lol anyone can get that anywhere. Think she talking about products you actually cannot find!
Beautylicioustips Ketchup chips???
This was so cool to see your state and country comparisons. Im really inspired to make my own UK vs USA Video. I have a "my British accent" video on my channel, and for the past few years and I'm shocked with how much questions i constantly get about how different NYC is to my home in the UK. Awesome videos Maya, thanks for the inspiration!
Visited Montreal and fell in love with that very fact that the healthcare is publicly owned! Also loved how colorful the city was and how it encouraged an active lifestyle.
Makes me want to move to Canada.
Celene Express Canada is so cool! but I forgot to mention one of the most important aspects...more opportunities and money to be made in the US which is why Canadians leave in the first place :/ that aside if you want a good life and aren't about world domination, Canada is the place :)
Canadas scenery is beautiful also
I have always wanted to live in Canada and the more I learn the more I desire it. I love U.S. just often don't feel I belong here.
Don't forget about the guns. There are quite a bit of (shot)guns in Canada (i.e. for hunting), but per capita, there way less guns and much less gun crimes. no shootings like in Lafayette, Alabama :(
Joyce Lee YAS! you have all the good ones!
Shameless Maya I'll always remember that video/vlog of you crying cause there was a
shooting (s) in your neighbourhood in nyc. I would never want to experience that :(
Joyce Lee Yea I just thought of that. Everyone here has a 50/50 mentality towards gun laws. But I live in Winnipeg, known for its slurpees and crime rates. Although our crime rates have been dropping I've noticed one thing; I have lived all over my city, in the rougher areas and calm areas, but not once have I or any of my friends/family heard a gunshot. Not only that but when you do hear the word "shooting" people are in shock and everyone in the city finds out... Because it rarely happens and when it does it's normally between two gang members. People here rob with bare fists (I know that from experience), and rather smash car windows for change than rob a store.
Joyce Lee i thought the shooting was in lafayette, louisiana?
***** i thought so! i was confused because there's a lafayette, alabama too
I love you maya you're so inspiring . I get a bit too excited every time I see that you've uploaded a video. I love you keep being your productive and creative self girl.
I love you maya, you're literally my biggest inspiration and inspired me to be completely shameless
Would love to make a trip to Canada! Great video
Ha! This is SO true! I'm Canadian but live in England now. My sons are half Canadian and half British, I have lived away from Canada for 15 years now but I still can't stop saying 'Sorry!' Sorry about that 😂😂 xx
I’m so happy I’m over Herpes simplex virus 🦠 and it’s stigma all thanks to Dr. Aloha Last week I tested Negative to Hsv 2 and my Igg level dropped drastically. He also has the remedy for any disease or STI. ruclips.net/channel/UC_YFEEZEr1BxGkNg1d4vqww ❤️
Love this. Thank you for being so real about the differences.
Appreciate your dedication to your video challenge. Really enjoyed it!
I have lived in Japan and Canada, and personally, I like both eaqually :)
If you could live in one forever which would it be?
I'm moving to Canada
this was a lot better than a lot of the other usa vs canada vids I've watched!
I love learning things like this! Thanks Maya! :D
no one in canada says oot, or aboot, or eh unless your joking.
+jjdude00 Canadians do! especially if you're from Toronto
+Shameless Maya I live in Toronto and I don't
Nah I say eh
+jjdude00 It's an Easterner thing. I grew up in Alberta and BC and no one over here talks like that. From what I've heard, though, people from Ontario and Newfoundland say it like that.
Well I live in Canada and I say eh a lot eh
Proud Canadian in da house 🙌🏻❤️ I grew up in our French province but moved to Ontario a few years ago. Even though we're neighbours, I still find differences between the two cultures. It's difficult to explain but you summed it up well for a 5 minute video! 😉👏🏻
Love your videos! They are always so interesting to watch! I learn me a few things about Canada today lol
Awesome video, as always! Would be great to hear those questions answered about the american visa situation in another video :) Thank you! xx
I'm moving to Canada 😮. My tuition is going to make me poor, lol.
***** Lol I'm with you.
***** Lol I'm with you.
***** no stay away we don't want you
Go to a state college in America, they are worlds cheaper. I'm getting my bachelors in Information Systems Technology at a state college and my tuition is $1,500 a semester, or sometimes less.
+Carefree Maya please come ,we need more people like you
cheers
The food is so much better in Canada. Great video
I love your videos!!
Loveeeeee this!
Great video ! Am a Canadian and I laugh when you mention the SoRRY... And oUT... lol then I went down to your comment section and there the entertainment started had to grab my popcorn lol
Great video......i would LOVE to move to Canada in the near future because the u.s seems like the sunk titanic .
+R. O'Bryan i'd like to hear more from you on canada. thanks !
I would love to move to Canada too XD
+Ace Dynamo I was going to say the same thing. I live on lower Vancouver Island and it's been a long time since we've had snow.
+Luna the Tuna Tuna the Luna Do we get to vote whether she is allowed to move here? I'm not sure the country's big enough for her and all the US Asians she'd have to bring with her ; ) lol I wonder if our Canadian Asians are good enough for her?
Yes!
I really like this video. I plan on visiting Canada and I think your responses were really thoughtful.
I've only lived in two states and only in America so it's cool to hear you talk about your own experiences.
and this is why I plan to move to Canada one day...Education is affordable as it should be & it's not stereotypical to race like Americans.
YOOOO, those Canadian houses on Property Brothers be hecka expensive.
Those are often filmed in the moe expensive/rich parts of Canada. Depending on where you live, you can either pay a ton or relatively low $$ for a house with a similar size and layout.
zabuma no our average houses are more expensive then the American ones. 300,000 dollars can buy me an average sized house in Canada but a pretty big one in America.
LMLTV HGTV made me want to move to Canada even more. I always wanted to move to Vancouver.
Exchange rate my friend.
Olivia Ray even with an exchange rate, I live in Georgia, USA. LOL. A $400k CAD home is still close to $300k USD. YOU CAN GET A MINI MANSION IN ATLANTA FOR UNDER $300k! Those $400k homes on Property Brothers leave a lot to be desired even with all the great renovations! I love that show, but uhhhh, those prices aren't what's hot in these TV streets, lol. Don't get me wrong, House Hunters has some whoppers when they're in bigger US cities, too.
Good stuff! Subscribed
In Alberta where I live now, you can get your learners permit at 14 and start driving fully at 15 or 16.
I'd seriously love to live in canada! it seems so diverse and fun there! there so many different cultures it just looks amazing!
Ive lived in Canada all my life (ontario) it really is a great country with lots of culture and stuff to see its a great place to live if you don't mind the cold
thx
The way you described Canada about family is how it is in the south.
I found this video very interesting! A lot of it was new information to me and I liked that!
I need to visit Canada! I have lived in Dominican Republic, Boston USA, and currently in Slovakia! Is so important to get to live in different cities and different countries! Love all your videos Maya, such an inspiration you are! :)
6-12k for tuition? You don't even wanna know how much my highschool was.
Hey Fran Hey WAH?!?!?! and that's tuition for University!
#iknowhereimmoving 😅
Shameless Maya i missed you ...
Hey Fran Hey lol that's a lot
My highschool was 45k a year! And this was back in the late 90s! Don't get me started on my college tuition. I'm having kids in Canada. lol
Hey Ms. Shameless, you've only lived in American cities that hustle hard. In my experience there are places in the midwest, south and suburban areas of most states that are more family/community/group oriented. Another good thing that I will say about America having lived in Detroit and been to Canada many times is that in America there are a lot more opportunities to make money in whatever field you choose. I have known a lot of Canadians who travel to the states for work and opportunity.
You are right Athorn, but I am really more concerned about safety issues than the money. In America, Keeling spread has become a fashion of the century, things aren’t getting any better but worsening by the minute!
Wow I really like your perspectives, especially the part about the power of the dollar being a paper & the effect that has. Also liked hearing you talk about access to education, you really ARE an example of what an intellectual culture Canada has. Really impressed/excited
You might not have been a hand model yet, but I think you having done voice acting is so so cool!! (: Love these vids too, helpful, interesting, and funny(: * I learned this in my college class, US is very individualistic, Japan + Canada and some others, are collective.
BTW: I absolutely Loved, Loved, Loved Toronto when I visited because it was so clean & everyone was so polite 😉
The Caribbean once had the best education system. Esp Guyana (South America) Guyanese kids would migrate and literally eat up their syllabuses. The work is not that hard. And I'm sure its still the same way. We never get passed to another class when our grades aren't that well. Its a strict system. Access to proper universities is the only drawback. There is always a Guyanese person excelling somewhere abroad.
Very informative
Thanks for sharing
I agree with most of what you said. You should try living/visiting the Midwest or just any non-massive American cities. That's where the family oriented and small town work together type vibe is.
Makes me proud to be a Canadian citizen ! Great video btw ; you so pretty .
The US has us (Canadians) beat when it comes to cell phone costs. Canadian carriers charge a fortune for data! Unless you have a corporate plan, unlimited phone data is virtually unheard of ... either that or you have to spend hundreds of dollars a month. In terms of things that really matter though (safety, health care, education, general standard of living), Canada surpasses the US.
You're right!
Get T-Mobile in America. And just fly over
I See Melanie I think that might depend on the phone company here in the US. Because Verizon is SOOOOO expensive and the took away the unlimited data plans. And service for t-mobile and sprint aren't as good where I live.
Yeah, I've definitely heard from American friends and family that the plans can vary amongst providers. Americans are still better off though - I pay $85 a month for 2 gigs, and I had to fight with my provider (Telus) so hard to get that! I had to speak to 3 different levels of management for over an hour on the phone to get them to give it to me at that price. It's so ridiculous here!
I See Melanie Hey! I am with Rogers & though they are as corrupt as any other phone company but I pay $85 for a 7 gig data with unlimited calling across Canada. I was offered this plan so it wasn't a hassle. Thought you might be interested:)
Great video !
Food portions!! I'm from Ottawa (we met in Macy's in NYC last Fall :) and the food portions in the US are typically massive in comparison to here.
Another great video, Maya, keep it up!
We did!!!
I need to move to Canada, it sounds so much better than America.
She made it sound so ideal but she should have talked about the job opportunities. She left for New York and LA to expand her career and succeed.
PandaBaby51 Totally true! If it was that much good! why she left already?
Benjamin Shokouhi she wanted to career in entertainment and the arts which is easier to access in the US.
Really!? I dream of living in new york... But also im 12 years old and dont have to worry about financial issues hehe
Do it do we can be Canadain buddy's eh
You make me want to move so I can finish school... And get my teeth fixed. Also in the USA it's an Everyman for himself mentality but people who actually have support systems are the ones who are actually very successful. That's what Americans don't get. You don't do it alone.
Amen!
You should know that dental is not included in our universal healthcare in Canada.
I found your video while looking into moving to different countries because America has turned into a scary place recently. I just wanted to add thanks for your video and saWry if I sounded a bit rude or somehow unappreciative by my previous comment. haha you seem like a beautifully awesome youtuber. keep it up!:]
I love this. Thank you!
Canada is mad pretty❤️
well I'm canadian but i honestly think your different experiences might be based on the fact you lived in HUGE cities in the US while you probably didnt in Canada
+dalevlog Naw, man. I've lived in a huge city in Brazil and I've visited huge cities in Canada (plus lived in Edmonton the past 15 years) and Canada's definitely less violent, has better education, and the healthcare's great (not as great as Cuba's, but ours is pretty damn good). :)
+PaddySnuffles Honestly, Blue states in America have universal healthcare, exceptional education/school districts, gun safety laws/gun restrictions and all that stuff too, but with the added benefit of having an environment in which to succeed in the sciences, business, the arts etc. (not to mention a diverse and beautiful landscape!) It's really just the red states that are backwards. Both countries are great places to live, but you just have to look at the parts of the countries that suit you best :)
Andy Blaszkiewicz-DiBacco Oh, I believe you. But since she's referring to the countries as a whole rather than an area, the red states affect the end result of the comparison. I'm from the Canadian equivalent of Texas, and despite being a _super_ conservative province stuff like open carry, stand your ground, or removing universal healthcare would never be acceptable. I don't mean to say that the US is horrid - just that, overall, Canada's safer and more educated. Of course there's areas of the US that are great! If there weren't Bernie wouldn't be a senator. ;)
PaddySnuffles are you in Alberta by any chance? lol. It is true that our educational system in the primary and secondary school system is of higher standard than the US, but the US does have some really high quality post-secondary institutions, it's sad how ademics in Canada are preferably hired if they went to an american university for their PhD
Yep, I'm from AB (by way of Brazil originally).
The education thing is sadly true for a lot of countries despite the US post-secondary institutions being no better or worse than those in other countries. It's why so many people who have phds in their home countries end up being cabbies and stuff when they move to the US (and a lot of countries - such as Brazil - participate in the same discrimination, unfortunately). It's unfair all around, I'd say. :/
Good video..thanks for sharing!
I've never been to Canada but I will one day.
I love how positive Canada can appear to be. Thank you for the comparative perspective.
Not only that, Canada makes some of the culturally diverse musical artists!
I recently went to California a few months ago for a trip. I ordered iced tea in some of the restaurants/fast food that me and my husband went to and the iced tea was tasteless. Iced tea in Canada is sweet. My friend who lives in California said that if I wanted 'sweet' iced tea, I have to add sugar in it or order raspberry iced tea instead. I wonder if this is the same for all states in the US?
Nope. I'm from Alabama, & we like our tea EXTRA sweet in the South. I live in Chicago now, and the tea here is wretched.
Fast food in Canada is much healthier and taste better than the same fast food in United States ... I'm American and I'll be the first to tell you that you can taste the difference ...
The Southern U.S for sweet tea
Proud to be Canadian!
I love, love, love Canada so much, Maya!
And luv you too, gal!
I love this!!!! My gal and I are from Indiana, US, we've considered immigrating to Canada for quite some time. Your life experience is very helpful in my desire to persuade her haha On personal, social and professional levels we don't suit the american dream very well. BIG thank you for this video.
I always thought Canadians seem very smart. I want to know how to move there , like how you get a visa. Thanks for the video.
77deerose same as trying to get a green card in America. Most common ways are to marry a Canadian or work visa. Or least common way is to bring in lots of $$$ millions to invest in Canada.
77deerose It's a great country to live in! I love being Canadian!
I'm American, Thanks a lot.
77deerose Are you American? You don't need visa you can travel to Canada with your ID either Passport
Benjamin Shokouhi She wants to move there (if I'm not mistaken) not just visit so she would need a work visa or like someone else said, get married to a Canadian.
As a tourist I generally find retail costs more in Canada (Walmart, Target, Forever 21 H&M, etc) than it does in the US but i understand why. Canadians say "ey" or "a" all the time and "guy".
As a Trini visiting both countries from time to time, these are the things I've noticed:
- I've seen more Asian people and communities in Canada than in the US
- I've noticed hella more interracial couples, particularly with black men of Caribbean descent with Asian women, black/caucasian, etc.
- Toronto is generally cleaner than Manhattan
- Nightclubs close early, like 1am or 2am?
- Transportation getting in and out of Toronto not that great, compared to NYC
- For international students, Canadian tuition costs more. In the US we pay double, but in Canada we pay triple what a legal resident or citizen pays
- Canadian Customs Officers asks more questions than the US (except if traveling thru Miami)
- In Trinidad, the visitor visa application process in terms of documents is more exhaustive than the US, however the process itself is better than the US, cuz the US make us wait in line outside (not for too long tho) then we're called inside in groups.
That being said I've only been to a few US states and only 3 provinces in Canada but I love them both.
yey!! I have been living in Toronto this last months and I love this city and all of Canada, I'm from Barcelona and now I miss so much the 6
This was super interesting 👍🏻
It seems like everything in Canada is more expensive because sometimes on the back of some products it gives the U.S. price and the Canadian price and the Canadian price is typically one dollar more. Am I wrong. TELL ME!!!!
I noticed that too especially with books. But it's Canadian dollars and I don't think you can assume 2 canadian dollars is more expensive than 1 american dollar. It could be worth the same just depends on currency rates but idk much about that. I hated my macroeconomics class.
Kyla Browne true but it also has to do with our pay. We typically have a higher pay because of these expensive things. Minimum wage here is 11$/hr
I was in British Columbia last week and noticed that the liter of of gas is $1.69 which is almost $7 a gallon Canadian or $4.90 gallon USD ... which translates to Canadian gas being at least 25 30% higher than in the US even though they have large oil reserves in Saskatchewan gas in Canada is much higher than in the US ...

Just arrived back in the states from Canada. I loved it. I learned many things stated in this video. I'm American but would love a PR card in the near future. Their values are so different in terms of caring for their citizens. The taxes are a lot
I'm moving to Canada now. Thanks Maya!
Two things she didn't mention that I've noticed about Canada is the multicultural and diverse demographics. It doesn't appear to be as much racism and/or racial issues because of it. This may also factor into why America's education system isn't up to par. This country operates a lot in terms of money, status, and race which is done to keep certain demographics inferior to others. Canadians also appear to be more well-traveled. It's almost nothing for them to get on a plane and go to Jamaica, Europe, Africa, etc., etc., while in America, at least for most, it's a big deal to take a trip outside the country. It involves more saving and planning. A trip like that is thought of as a privilege or something extraordinary that only happens when people have money or save for year/s. In Canada it seems to be a way of life. I do like those aspects of Canada vs. America.
I will say, it's evident there are many things Canadians look up to regarding America, but sometimes don't admit. There's a pride that comes from either side when people speak of their birth places and countries.
I think the lack of family unison that she feels is probably due to the fact that she lives or lived in hustle and bustle areas where she doesn't have much family. If you go to other states that are less about trying to "make it" in highly-competitive, billion dollar industries that are designed for only a few to "succeed" and are very cut-throat, there is a greater sense of family and support. However, I do feel in America, we see our coworkers more than we see our family members. I think about that quite often and it's very sad and backwards when you think about it. It's my goal to change that aspect in my life.
I am an Bosnian-American living in USA. I also lived in Germany, Sweden, Bosnia and Austria and even though these countries have some pros compared to America, they also have a lot of cons. Major difference is quality of life. Now what is quality of life? Assuming you're a somewhat smart person and not 200% in debt, America is the place to be. Whether you want to work your way up to be a millionaire and live like a king, or just enjoy all aspects of life as a middle class citizen, it's all up to you. If you're into traveling and exploring pretty much every climate zone and geographical points of interest, America it is. If you're into big cities or just small towns, America has more to offer. You like diversity and trying out food from every culture on the planet? America scores there too. You can set up your life the way you want it, there are so many possibilities to be happy and enjoy it. Can't say the same for many other countries. United States has it all, you just gotta know how to find, whether is real sugar soda or the special something you enjoyed so much elsewhere outside America. The country has its problems, but so do all other countries. None of them are perfect, but general quality of life and easy access to everything you may want or need, America is the place to be. That's exactly why so many people fight for that green card and American way of life. It's a melting pot nation so if you as a foreigner manage to get the language right, you have endless opportunities.
This was so real for me! I was born and grew up in Kenya, then lived in the US, and now just moved to Canada. Initially, I thought the US and Canada would be so similar, and while they are in some ways, the differences are definitely more noticeable (especially, if you've lived in the US before or vice versa). Love you Maya!!!
i want to know more about the differences !!! I'm canadian and this topic really does interest me :) love you maya ~
Makes me wanna move to Canada
Canadian in Japan here. I find that Aussi's, Kiwi's, Brit's and Canucks can understand a certain type of humour that is not the same as with American's. Just a general self depreciating style of thought.
Didn't know that... interesting : )
It's probably due to our ambivalent nature, the influx of Brits until at least the late 60's and hey, the largest comedy festival in the world: "just for laughs" may give some hints as to how we humour ourselves, don't take things too seriously as well!
Born and raised in Toronto , now living in New York City and I couldn't agree more with everything you said.
I live in Canada, was born and lived in Portugal for a few years and also lived one year in Germany when I was younger. I was always curious about living in the USA.
I feel like Canada would never let me fall flat on my face if I fall on hard times; whereas, there are so many people living around the poverty line and on the streets. Also, retirement in Canada is much more affordable with the retirement benefits, which includes free or almost free healthcare. Even though I live in the US, I am so proud of Canada (as a Canadian) and the way they treat their people.
C A N A D A I A N ! ! ! But America has better shopping 100%
Chenai David2 this is SOOOOOO TRUE!!!! I wish I talked about this! Canadians always travel south to the boarders to shop!
Chenai David2 I wish the dollar was at par again :( $1US = $1.28 right now doesn't help.
Chenai David2 Preach!!!!
Chenai David Do They Have Tommy Hilfiger? Every Country Needs it Even Though It Is Expenisve!
Parneet Brar yes.... plus online shopping
Great clip! I haven't been to Canada but as a Swede there is much (not just hockey :)) that feels the same. Hope to visit Canada in the future.
Thanks Maya this was very helpful I'm actually a NYC native looking to move to Toronto in the next few years.
I'm from Brazil, lived in the US for two years and it was a very nice experience. When people ask the differences between Brazil and US, I always say that there is a lot but, the major one is that in Brazil even when we are completely broke, we choose to be happy, to smile and enjoy life...
This video made me appreciate the fact that I live in Canada so much more. Please do a video on visas! I want to move to the states for a couple of years but the process seems very overwhelming slash very difficult.
I'll switch ya....I'm tired of all the brutal killings here in USA like every month we have a mass or school shooting...no malls, movie theaters, schools, or even our own homes or churches are save here in America! Canada seems quiet and very safe compared to USA....oh yeah home invasions are high too in USA.
savannahandstuff / Simple ! Enter via Mexico, and tell the libtard you’re going to vote for them ,your in..
But if you appreciate Canada so much, why bother come to the States? Do you see how conflicting you are ... or maybe the video is not at all truthful. I live in America and I have family in Canada, but over my dead body would I want to move to Canada when life in America is so much better ... more opportunities, better services ... better in almost everything. Yes, I know you have your health card but our health care while not government run, is so much better than Canada. Canada rations it's health care especially to the very old people ... they just give them some pain medicine instead of expensive surgery.
TN Visa
I am moving to Canada this summer 🙌🏾 finally !!!
I'm from New York and I was raised in Brooklyn growing up with a ghetto ascent as an Arab and going to Times Square every two weeks and seeing pics of the nyc view makes me wanna cry sometimes cause I'm so proud👊🏼💪🏼✔️💗🗽🌃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I want to live in Canada. It seems pretty cool, eh?
+Metal Monarch A lot of people say that but it is still considered a stereotype so if you just do it because you want to be Canadian that is just wrong. Btw the ppl that say eh' that are the older people. I don't know anyone that is younger that says eh'. That is sort of a stereotype. That is like me saying all americans say "Huh?". I know not all Americans say huh but it is just like you saying all Canadians say eh'.
shut up plz
I'm Canadian and I support this message
+Jake Arama i can't agree more with you. nowadays canadians are more shellfish than any other nation. especially life in vancouver sucks. ordinary people are having real difficulty to make a living. sorry to say that canadians are not really know what Americans are vise versa i guess
Im 18 and my entire peer group says eh from time to time. It's a Canadian word that has context and is useful in situations. It's usually said to force someone to answer a question or a though you have rather than giving them a choice to decide to respond or not. If someone ask you a question and follows it with eh. It's typically considered rude not to answer. Culture is strange
I couldn't wait to watch this when you mentioned it yesterday...but Maya you forgot to talk about the shopping situation is way better in the US...Canada pays more taxes (for all the benefits you mentioned like health care) and the weather....I do think Canada is the best place you could live...and if we could fix the whole winter situation it would be heaven.
I was wondering...because whenever I go to the US I get the feeling that cultures are very segregated from each other...whereas in Toronto there is more mixing...has this been your experience too?
Where I live the winter is the exact same at American winter, if not warmer, and the summer is extremely hot. I have no problem paying more taxes, considering how much they benefit you later. There is many tax included stores that make you feel like there's no difference, and a lot of my favourite places to shop has no tax days often
Olivia Ray sounds very similar...where do you live?
in northern Toronto area, hub?
Olivia Ray I'm from Toronto area too!
Amazing video! Some of these things I knew, and some of them I didn't know. My mom was born in Toronto but raised in Queens. My mother's side of the family is Jamaican & Canadian, and I still have family in both places. My extended family on my mother's side is here in the States while everyone else is in Jamaica & Canada. I have been to both Jamaica & Canada. I am mainly African-American (because of my father), Jamaican, and Canadian. I love my heritage!
I was born and raised in california, now i live in france, near Paris, and in september i'll be living in London for college, for 4 years. Cant wait to experience the London life :)
