Sometimes I swear you two have a window into my soul. It was listening to this song in the dimly lit basement while my father fixed something on his work bench that made me fall in love with piano. The song would come on the transistor radio, and he’d turn it up to max volume, his joy lighting up the whole dark room. He’d shake his fingers as he twisted around in a little dance to the rhythm. Tonight, he lies in the hospital at 83, frail and wasting away, the joy gone from his face as he fights for every ounce of vital oxygen. I’m driving 7 hours with my son tomorrow to see him maybe for the final time before his light is gone forever. I’m going to play him your version to give him back a little of what he lost.
Praying for you and yours.
Praying for your family. May he live on forever.
God works in wonderful ways. May he bless you and your father
Sending love and virtual hugs. ❤
May God strength and peace be with you and family. I agree TPG have been gifted from above and their talent brings more than just a pure enjoyment when listening to their music. I once made their concert and it was an unforgettable experience. They are humble, honest and hugely talented ppl who have been through their own struggles and they bring hope through their music. Love them ❤️ thanks Piano Guys. Pls never change!!!
I can't believe I'm hearing this song. My mom who isn't with us anymore had a music box that my dad bought her with a ballerina on top dancing to this song. I can see her right now sitting and listening to her music box. This song brought tears to my eyes, good tears but I miss her so much! Thank you Piano Guys for doing this. It means more to me than words can express.
This is absolutely amazing!! This was one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano and my mom and dad would always request it. This is really tender to me as my dad passed away earlier this year. I needed this song this morning, thank you, pianoguys, for sharing your light and music with the world. ❤
I never knew this was called music box dancer but as soon as it started playing all the nostalgic feels hit me.
Same!
The ice cream trucks…
I was listening to Advent music via Pandora getting ready for Christmas, just two weeks away, the day of the year that was my late wife's very favorite. She passed away in October of 2020 and Christmas is a sad day for me now, despite the celebration of Jesus' birth and the gatherings with family and friends. It's just not the same without her. Anyway, my Advent mix contains about every version of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and a lot of wintry instrumentals, while I save the Christmas carols and hymns for the Christmas Season. Inexplicably, Pandora added Music Box Dancer to the rotation. There is a major episode in my wife's formative years that includes this song. I won't bore you with the details, but I almost felt her presence in the room when I recognized the tune. This is not exactly what I'd call Advent music, but it did strike a chord with me today. Thank you for the rendition.
Whenever I hear this song, it pricks my heart a little. This was the final song that my piano teacher was having me learn, before my parents decided to stop paying for my piano lessons. (I think they'd realized that I liked piano well enough, but I wasn't passionate enough about it to warrant continuing with that expense.)
I remember how happy I felt when I could finally play this song without making any major mistakes, and the song made me happy enough that I ended up committing it to memory. To this day, all these years later, I can still remember the melody line, and the feeling in my fingers is familiar. It's a good feeling.
So, yeah. Thank you, Piano Guys. It was good to hear this and be reminded. (Feliz Navidad and other Happy Holidays to you, by the way.)
What a beautiful memory, thanks for writting it!
It is so beautiful. It brings me back to childhood.
I cried all the way through this remembering my mother and I listening to it together at a restaurant that had a mini jukebox at each table. I can still remember the look on her face which matched mine - delight. She played and taught the piano and organ her whole life until Alzheimer's stole her talent. She's in heaven now, as I shared this moment with her memory...
This was one of the first things I learned to play publicly on the piano. It brings me back to simpler times, and it's such a beautiful delicate piece of music.
The nostalgia that really hit me when I was only 2 years old now I'm 17. I was lucky enough to even remember the song and first heard this in a nursery rhymes with a bunch of kids singing the song. Till this day I'm still finding that exact same nursery rhymes.
The moment I saw the notification that you guys had done this I got so excited. I've loved Music Box Dancer since it originally came out years ago. I love that you mixed in just a bit of that Christmas song about the goose is getting fat....can't remember the title, but God Bless YOU for your beautiful rendition!
Pretty much it's "Christmas is Coming, the Goose is Getting Fat." i like that song, too!
As a small child my mom played it, and I danced. After piano lessons - I've played it a ton, in fact, just played it last week. Thanks for bringing it back with all the feels!!
I miss seeing a music video for every new song, but I'm sure it takes a lot of time and money to shoot the videos. But the music is always beautiful nonetheless 💙
Ditto - I miss the videos, too. Still grateful to have the music 🎼🎹🎻
Sometimes music is just purely about the music and deserves full attention without distractions.
Love this!! I played this tune on the piano as a child and instantly recognized it here. Thanks so much for incorporating this into your music. I shared it with my mom and she said the same. Thanks!
Die Welt kann so friedlich und heil sein... danke
Oh I love this song. I'm so glad you did a version of Music Box Dancer.
Looking forward to seeing The Piano Guys live in Colorado Springs later this month.
This invokes one of the very few good memories I have of my father.
I lived on a quiet street growing up so we never got the ice cream truck. I remember that my parents at one point tracked it down and tipped them really good to come to our house and get "free ice cream". (they paid in advance) There were more than 8 kids that were so excited.
Jon, I like what you've done with this piece. I like how you use certain sustained notes as drones and play very much in the style of George Winston. I've loved this song since I was small, and I think your version of it is even better than the original.
I'm 100% with Rebecca Stamm - This song has been a favorite since I was a very, very little girl. Thank you so much for this wonderful gift!!
So beautiful and emotional this song!
This song is the earliest memory I have of music and is what I attribute my love of music to. I'm so glad you've done a version of this.
One of favourite piano pieces.😍😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍
I learned Piano in 2nd grade and this was a song my father always loved. It was one of the first songs I strived to learn, but didn't seem to be very well known.
Ever since Jon came and played with my high school band, and I had some one on one time chatting with him, I've had a special place in my heart for the Piano Guys!
Das 15 years ago i lost you and it still feels like it was yesterday.
Happy Birthday in Heaven Dad..
Aw this brings a lump to my throat to remember an uncle-in-law who was a professional pianist and we met on a family visit many years ago. My daughter was around 3 years old and he played Music Box Dancer for her. He blessed so many people with his talent while he was on this earth. Thank you for this lovely selection.
My late mom loved the original version. This brought back bittersweet memories.
OH How I miss Grandma. She loved this Song. ♥️☺️
This is so lovely 😍🥰
This is such a happy song. I have always loved this.
I just now realized that there's an homage to this in the Flight of the Conchords song "Friends".
I love it, like it's a ballroom piece!
This is the song the ice cream trucks played in my home town... instant nostalgia!
I've been searching for this for years! Thank you!
One of my favorite songs...ever. I kind of wish we had some cello love in this version, but still beautiful, none-the-less. Thank you for making my Holiday with this song!
Very beautiful and original! Something I could study or fall asleep to 🤍
How did I not know this song existed even as a pianist who's done many years of playing piano
It's a lovely song isn't it! Frank Mills, if your interested... he wrote it for his daughter when she was upset, because her music box had broken. Also, have a look for 'Kitty on the Keys', it has a similar sound, which I think you'll enjoy.
@@edwardholmes91 sweet I'll have to buy the music
Beautiful!!!!
I have LOVED Music Box Dancer since I was a little girl - it brings joyful feelings to my mind and heart (the same way Waterfall does) I think it can be considered a Christmas song.
I love this! My dad would play the Frank Mills version when I was little and my brothers and I would dance. This brings tears to my eyes as I remember those precious days gone by. -Karen
I've loved this song since I first heard it! So glad you guys made a cover if it
Hermosa música, muchas gracias !!!!!
Such a happy song 🎵 😊 I remember it in the 70’s
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
Oh I can't believe I just found this. It's one of my favorite songs played by my favorite Piano Guys!!! Yeah. Thanks for making this. 😊
My deceased mother loved this song. Made me cry
That was beautiful, and was nice to just see a lovely background image to allow us to conjure up our own visuals without distraction.
Just waking up to this Beautiful Song💕😇My Blessings to you Piano Guys 💕😇What a Amazing way to get my day started 💗Love..Love ..Love This💕
I never would have thought of this as a Christmas song either, but I think that's because it became popular in Canada in the summer, and only was released in other countries around December. I always preferred Frank Mills' other hit Peter Piper - thought not a big international success like Music Box Dancer, it did get a lot of play in Canada. Would be fun to hear the Piano Guys take on that one as well.
Wow this is amazing wow beautiful sound love it 🥰
That's my favorite piece of music!!! Love Frank Mills
Thank you for this. This song and Peter Piper by Frank Mills have always been my two favorite piano pieces. Keep being awesome.
Beautiful! So magical takes me back to my childhood....
I love this Guys. So gentle and bright. I may have to add the sheet music for this to my Christmas list.
Another amazing song! Awesome work!
Чудесная зимняя композиция
Love your cover of Frank Mills music box dancer
I love this song. No, I don't see it as a Christmas song but one of fairies dancing and happy thoughts.
I have the original and to my delight it came across my playlist just a few days ago. Beautiful cover as always.
I just always enjoyed this music
Wow, this takes me back!
I haven't heard this since 1979ish!
Thank you!
My email asked the question: Is this even a Christmas song? And my answer was simply this: Who CARES?!! It's beautiful, it's calming at 6am, it's lovely...it's a longtime favorite, it's going to be played again and again.
That's all that matters to me. 🎹☕🎧
Спасибо, большое!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Love your channel
Oh the memories! Beautiful! (future song suggestion: "If I Could Fly" by One Direction)
In a world of brown, you guys bring back the blue and white. (With just a touch of purple.) Sacred, beautiful, Thank you. Now do a version with the cello coming in, just piano and cello, then a full orchestra of strings .. but only if you want to. 💙🤍🤍💙
And may the Peace of God which passes all understanding, be with the Earth this Christmas.
So THAT’S the name of this song! I swear it’s the only one the ice cream truck in my neighborhood ever played. Ahh good times.
My brother Russ Is In Heaven.
I remember this tune !!!!!! 😁
You could put this song in a snow globe with snow! 🥰🌨️☃️
Languages limit what I want to express my touched.
THANKS WONDERFULL VIDEO FANTASTIC MUSIC THANKS 👏👏🎄♥️🌹💐💞👨👩👧👦⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Una belleza y tener el agrado de escucharla mucho mas
Thank you
Okay, but where's the cello? We were promised a piano + cello cover. It's right there in the title.
Yes! Where is the cello ? 😢
No, in title this 👉🏻 piano cover. Sorry for my English 🙏
Oh man....WHEN are you coming to the UK??💕💕💕
한국에선 1980년대 mbc방송국 일기예보 배경음악으로 나왔어요. 어릴 때 화이트 크리스마스를 기대하며 일기예보 시청한 기억이....
Love this, John! So beautiful! ❤️🥰 Merry Christmas 🎄!
很好聽😊😊😊
Que bonita música, siempre la escucho cuando pasa coche de los helados, hasta se me antojo un helado de chocolate 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦What beautiful music, I always listen to it when the ice cream car passes by, I even crave a chocolate ice cream 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦
This song is incredible!! It reminds me of my late mother!! When does it come out on CD or Vinyl? 💖
I had this on a 45 record when it came out in 1979.
❤
Where can I find the sheet music of this sweet song?
Can we please have sheet music i love this cover
So I went to y'all's concert is St Louis recently and learned that Steven has 39 Cellos ( he's the reason I have decided at almost 40 to start playing cello, never too old to learn something new). How do we find out the names and material all these Cellos are? Are there photos of all them somewhere?
Beautiful cover! I loved this song ever since I heard it at 1:00 a.m. one night in 1979 and listened to it as it rose to become number 2 on Billboard Magazine's American Top 40. It was and is a very magical song.
If this song had not been mistakenly sent to the pop music radio station, I would never have experienced its magic.
Thank you for making it extra special!
Not a Christmas Song in my book (I remember when it was released in the '70s and never associated with Christmas). BUT, I absolutely love the TPG arrangement!! Once again, thank you for filling our worlds with beautiful music. Merry Christmas to you and your families!
You should do golden hour next
Is this song on a CD? And if so which CD? Music Box Dancer is wife and I song since 1979 when we dated and married.
I always thought that this song was the Ice Cream Truck song, how funny. Anyone else?
6th i guess ... but love your music as always piano guys!
Sounds just like The Wiggles' Version of this song!!!!!! I am thinking of starting a Wiggles Cover Band in Virginia where I live, and I would be honored to do this song with you guys collaborating if you want!!!!!!!!
Ice cream!!!!!!!
Request cover, Indila - Tourner Dans Le Vide.
Cremeria chalco le trae....
😣😣🤔🥱
Interesting interpretation, but you cannot improve on the original.
Have you ever done “It’s A Small World” ?
