Story behind the song:
The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (Youth Orchestra) and its director, Kayson Brown, approached us with this idea. We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from!
What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him.

I can't tell you how much I love you guys and your music. It helped me through getting shot 3 times in August of 2023 and after brain surgery in July of 2022. My doctors and others often ask how I bounced back so quickly and am back trying to work full time. I tell them to listen to you and most times send them my playlist of your music. A lot of people ( us employees ) are walking around the hospital with smiles on their faces lately. Thank you and may you all forever be blessed and happy for what you do and the lives you've changed and saved, me for one.💜💜💜💜💜
I'm deaf with Ménière's disease (same disease beethoven had) so I feel very connected to him and his music. I've loved him since I was a little girl!! (Before I lost my hearing) I went several years without hearing aids, not being able to truly listen to music. When I finally got hearing aids, I listened to this song and I cried!!! I cried so much. Hearing THIS song after many years of hearing basically nothing was an experience I will forever be grateful for. This is so, SO beautiful. Thank you so much for giving me such a masterpiece to listen to! I feel so overwhelmed when I listen to this. It's amazing!!

When this song started playing I was on the brink of tears. When I was about 9 I heard this song for the first time, and I was so inspired. My musical journey began as I set my heart on playing cello. After 5th grade I received a cello as a gift from my grandfather and I couldn't have been more happy. After my grandad passed away, I turned to the Piano Guys once again for inspiration. To this day in High School, I play the Cello alongside, alto, bari, and tenor Saxophone . I'm so happy you guys showed me that music has more power than words.

October 18, 2019, and yes still watching. I’ve been studying for a doctor’s degree for 7 years at Hong Kong University and this song has been my only refuge in times of distress and pain. I have Asperger’s, which makes my social skills worse than that of most people and I still get bullied a bit even in university. This song has pulled me through dark moments in my life when I was in despair, self-harmed and even had suicidal thoughts. Thank you OneRepublic, and also ThePianoGuys, who have made my life worth living.
Also, to people who want to suicide out there, please rethink your decision. I do not think suicide is brave or cowardly, just that you are leaving a trail of destruction behind you. Sometimes you might think that life is not worth living, or nothing in life goes along your plan, and you feel just useless, a waste of oxygen, a piece of trash in human society. Nobody cares about you, and you just want to die, leave your life behind, no more worries, no more pain. Believe me, I have experienced that before too. But please, think of all the sadness and despair you’ll leave behind in your family and friends’ hearts, and also the life you’ll be leaving behind. Think of all the good moments in your life, the happiness, the sparkles. Please, do continue living on, and be happy as your life progresses. Try to live happily, and remember that suicide is a dead end.

But the first time i saw you perform this, the joy on your face was just so touching. I struggled for a very long time to find that joy. Music is a manner of communicating. :) I'm not a professional musician but I've played piano and sang since childhood. To get passionate and emotional, I think about what story and message the song is trying to convey. Is it mourning a loss? Is it romantic and loving? Basically, like in "method acting" I meditate on those emotions and feel them personally and come up with a reason why I must deliver the meaning of this song to people and let them know my story. I only say this because it might give you some ideas or inspiration to try new things while you play? Good luck. :)
I don't think the true magic is the music but what's it's able to do... I see Italian, Russian, English, french and German comments. people from all over the world have the same emotions. I don't think that it is only the truly beautiful music but the unity and connection it makes.

I just saw this live last night and it was so beautiful. This has been my favorite song for a long time. Back when I was at rock-bottom and super depressed, I would turn on some music. One night, the emotions got so bad that I actually sat on the floor with the pills in my hand, and I turned on my music to at least fall asleep not feeling so alone. But this song came on and I realized, If music can be this gorgeous and uplifting, why can't life be the same way?

When playing an instrument, you are making a commitment to a lifelong journey that you can't halfheartedly play every now and then, you gotta pick it up or sit down or do whatever, get out that sheet music, and practice your heart out. No song is impossible given enough practice.

When you experience something so beautiful it actual chokes you up...
when i first heard this song in 2022 prior to their tour, i had lost my dear grandfather in january. it was a hard time for my family, and this beautiful rendition really helped all of us get through. little did we all know that i would perform this very song with jon and steve on stage... twice ❤️ getting to perform again tonight really emphazised personal growth, and i know that my grandfather is eternally proud.

I love The Piano Guys music. But this one is truly one of my most favorites that I play on repeat, repeat, repeat.....😂. I love the fact they used younger people to do this song selection with and forced them to tap into the beauty of their musical gifts. I played the flute when I was younger and had I heard this song 40 years ago I believe I would have perfected it and the Chello which was and always has been a hidden passion. when this Song was released I was still in school and in every music class, the first 15 minutes one kid would bring a song and we would listen to it and talk about it. Most kids brought pop or rap, when it was my turn, I brought this Song. But isn't thins song is a mash up from a quite well known Pop Rock band OneRepublic song's Secret? Even though they combine it with Beethoven's 5th Symphony, the tune of Secret still distinguishes in here. So even if they don't know this mash up version, it will be natural for them to at least recognize some tunes from Secret in here.

Loved to listen to classical music since I was little still stinks my family never had the money so that I could learn to play a classical instrument. Thank you for the great sounding music!
You can always learn it later in life! My grandfather (now deceased) learned how to play the piano at age 86.

10 years ago I listened to this as college student. It inspired me to try harder in life. Now I graduated college and have stable job. Comes back here every now and then as reminder to "Not only practice one's art but force one's way into its secrets."

Inspirador, motivacional, maravilhoso!
I used this as my background music when i proposed to my ex girlfriend (now my wife) last Dec 19 2014. I will not forget her reaction and how she cried when i bended knees and ask her to marry me. She's my classmate since elementary, high school and college schoolmate too. That's 19 years of solid friendship! It's the most unforgettable moment of my life. :D

I always wonder what musicians like Beethoven or Mozart would say if they listened to modern music pieces like this. Would they like it? Would they hate it?

Definitely, they were after all pioneers of their time so it would be easy to tell that they would have mastered our musical techniques/approaches very quickly. I could imagine someone like Bach coming back from the dead and playing something on the keyboard through power counterpoint harmonies that will bring tears to your eyes!
Beethoven was deaf, so I don't think he would enjoy it.
Mique Celli First thing that comes to mind is "does it matter?" At the same time the way people like the pianoguys, Jaqcues Loussier and Peter Beets take classical pieces and with a lot of respect for the original work giving it a modern feel is incredible. I love listening to this.
