I played through the full thing on my bass last night. No shame in saying it was probably the hardest song I’ve ever played. Not because of technicality or anything, but it takes so much out of you. I remember getting to cultivator and it didn’t feel like I could do the rest of the song but next thing I knew I was at the final departure. For anyone else trying to learn this song: learn it in chunks. There’s an image online of the chart that Sleep used to keep track of the song structure, and it’s what I referred to and I highly recommend you do as well. When I say chunks, I mean only about 3 riffs/sections at a time. If you try more than that, it can be difficult for your brain to process and remember that much information. Learn chunks and get comfortable slowly adding them together. For example, the first chunk you should learn is Departure, Hotel Room, Sonic Titan. Repeat with the rest of the riffs/sections using the chart I talked about as a guide and soon enough, you too can follow the smoke toward the riff filled land.

So helpful of a vid! Absoultely nailed that tone too However, riff 9 is ever so slightly wrong, in live shows you can see matt pike playing it with a C powerchord on 19th fret (F string) instead of 12th fret of C string, so he also plays the open C string, making it sound ascending but also ending the phrases of that riff in a "bigger" sounding chord of sorts, it is bit funky to reach to but it should be okay to play on any guitar with good upper fret access

Depth: 4
Bass: 5-10
Treble: 1.5-3.5
High frequency drive: 5
Gain: 7.5
Start off from herr and adjust to taste, it would come close

Yes, but not simultaneously. I double tracked the entire playthough, one with the Muff, the other with the MXR D+.
