You can learn much from Neil Peart and his lightning fast drumming/timing. Playing slower, gives more space, and power, to the sound, yet relies on the same techniques Peart used/uses. Same coin, different sides. Hard to play fast and tight! Incredibly hard to play slow, and tight!! I just heard of them.. Poor man's Melvins! IMHO!
I saw them live for Scion. I have never witnessed a heavier band in my life. Every bass note Al hit sent quakes through my body. I became a vibration during their set. It was amazing
nah, each riff repeats 4 times and riffs have A/B variations so when you are at the second B variation you know next riff is coming, also bass does octave/blues scale fills before riff changes

My two all time favorite bands are Rush and Sleep. Here we have a video where Sleep is rehearsing Dopesmoker while the drummer is wearing a Rush shirt. I’ll let you the reader work on the physics of the epicness that exists in this video for me.
Matt basically uses physical shit instead of a bunch of different pedals. Stacking a ton of amps, ect. He also frequently uses a 12 string with the octave strings removed on the 3 low strings, and the high strings being doubled instead of octave pairs. Basically his high strings sound like a chorus without a chorus.

You are right about the top 3 being doubled up and giving it a chorus effect. First Act does make (made?) 6, 9, and 12 string versions of the guitar he has though. But they're very hard to come by and last one I saw for sale was about $4k.

I'm not sure if it's the same drummer but when I saw sleep they were playing with the drummer for neurosis and they sounded really great together. With all of the amps and the theatre sound, Matt pikes guitar was so loud
I like Marshall's but your so right, not enough balls for this kind of stuff, Orange and Green all the way. Sounds more laid back. Still great though. Also, Mapex, get in, I'm in Mapex Mafia 👍

The Who was in Guiness Book of World Records for a couple of consecutive years in 74' and 75' (I think) as loudest concert band.

It's been a while since I made that comment, but I think that what I meant was either that Hakius is a genius for coming up with the drum part for this song, or that he is just too good at what he does and couldn't be easily replicated, even by a good drummer. Jesse Baart most of those amps were sold to Wayne 3. You can find some videos of him playing holy mountain and other sleep songs playing with those green amps used on dopesmoker.

In jam rooms, often the percussions dominate all other instruments. So that's why it sounded a little low to us. Matt's probably got in-ear monitors here, I'm watching this in Low Quality so i can't really make out.

Jason is very experienced, and a great drummer from one of the heaviest and most intense bands, Neurosis. So of course he is a professional.
