  • In this video we visit Blackheath, a town near the top of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales along the Main Western Line. The town is served by NSW Trainlink services on the Blue Mountains Line. Here we mostly see some V Set EMU's along with a couple of Endeavour DMU's on the Bathurst Bullet service. We start the video at the station before moving on to the nearby Bundarra Street level crossing.
The level crossing is unique as its one of only two level crossings along the Blue Mountains Line to feature a level crossing for road vehicles (the other being Sir Henrys Parade level crossing in Faulconbridge), and one of only two level crossings on the NSW Trainlink electrified intercity network to feature mechanical balls. The crossing utilises Western Cullen Hayes' mechanical bells which sound until the boom gate has fully lowered. The crossing also provides us an opportunity to listen to some V Set horns which is great.
Blackheath station opened in 1868 as a halt station when the line from Wentworth Falls to Mount Victoria was completed, before opening as a platform on the 28th December 1869. The current station was provided in 1898 when the line between Blackheath and Mount Victoria was duplicated. The station is unique as it's a larger example of a type 11 station building and one of two stations on the Blue Mountains Line to feature a timber station building, the other being Katoomba. The station is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register and received a DDA-compliant easy access upgrade in 2023 with new lifts being built on the footbridge.
Fun fact: the station is 1065m above sea level, making it the second-highest station on the NSW rail network. It is beaten only by Bell which is also on the Blue Mountains Line, which is 1069m above sea level.

Enjoy my first video recorded from my recent trip to the New South Wales Blue Mountains. It was great to see the V Sets in action before their retirement in the coming year or so. More videos to come!

this is my favorite train line. & the v sets are always great to travel on to the blue mountains. because they always have comfort & comftable seats onboard, i love riding on them a lot. it's always great to get them in a 4 car and 8 car set. these sets had been around for a long time.
