- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

Samantha Staley seems like a genuine sweetheart. What a breath of fresh air. I wish her all the very best, with contentment and fulfillment.
The poverty in the area is just sad. The homes they live/lived in with floors falling through and roofs leaking.
I know it’s hard to leave home but it would be best if this girl could get some money and get to the nearest largest city. She could get help and get on her feet
@Ciara Jackson I grew up in pike county. The only reason that I am a successful person and mother is because of my own mother. She made sure that I got a college education and moved away. My best friends loved my mom because she genuinely cared about everyone. I had a baby with a man similar to Jake and I got away from him because my mom got an attorney to got him to gladly sign his rights away. My freedom is solely owed to my mother. My rock to this very day. I would have been trapped in a very similar situation if my mom hadn’t out smarted them and believed in me.
@@finegremlin something similar happened in my case. I didn't grow up there but grew up in about area in South Eastern Kentucky. If you aren't a coal miner or drug dealer, you have no way to survive or provide. My mother helped me to get far away.

I agree. Nothing that proved any of the Wagner's did anything. I hope Jake and his mother testimony will not be blacked out so we cannot see or hear them. Since more and more trials are being televised Law and Order needs to have a reporter covering this case come on during breaks to let us know what's the testimony was about.

I know Tabitha hated to testify but I’m glad we get to see her and hear what she has to say
She’s obviously very private, however really think she was very brave to talk in front of the world, didn’t see her look at George!

Tabitha, I'm sorry for the hurt the Wagner family caused you & greatly thank you for your courage to share the truth openly so the public that cares about justice for the Rhoden family can hear & see 1st hand. You are certainly braver & a more upstanding human than, disappointingly, apparently Jake & his mother are planning to be!! It's a crime unto itself that this court is going to allow them to hide from the world when they testify! NEVER should be the case...especially this horrendous case that's waited nearly 7 yrs to be heard!

The Wagners are a weird and abnormal family. What mother makes her son's wife leave their bedroom so she could rub and scratch his back? What husband would allow that? Why wouldn't George get a job and move out? What makes Angela think she should be raising Tabitha's baby?

Why don't these Lawyers know the questions they are going to ask the witnesses? They seem to be asking in slow motion.
For those who are just joining the trial this court has allowed witnesses to elect out of being videoed/sound recorded. So when there is video and no sound that is why. Some have elected to allow sound but no video etc. It's been a hard one to follow online because most have opted out of being shown/sound recorded.

I know everyone believes they are guilty and I do too but honestly you have to be proven guilty and a court of law to be convicted and I haven’t seen any evidence linking George to the murder even though in my heart I believe he had something to do with it Either pulling the trigger or being an accomplice in it.
Idk if there is any actual evidence tying him to it but I do think he will be convicted based on Jake and Angela’s testimony

Yes no evidence against George except the brother that could shoot people 3 to 5 times in the head. If he is capable of that then lying would be a walk in the park with a cool breeze.

It's not the technicians, the witnesses have the option to be on camera or not and also the option to have audio or not. When they opt out, you won't see or hear them. Just thought I would let you know🙂

The trauma is so palpable
Is no wonder this trial is taking so long, not only did 8 poor people lost their lives, by the hands of a crazed family of mountain goats, but on top of it these people, specially the judge, are in a working pace of a turtle with a broken leg, the judge is just about delivering warnings to this poor jury and the public and taking 2 hour lunches along with a break after every witness; And why video broadcast a trial when 70% of the time is just hours of people seating around in a courtroom mostly doing nothing; this is mainly a video recording of how courts waste public-money, it would be cheaper to hire, produce and show an editors version than this!

Well, this young girl,. Tabitha got away with her life as she did not enforce the custodianship of her son but the poor Rhodens were not that lucky. It sounds as if Angela Wagner displays a serious defective personality disorder. Well, in jail and now prison, she might even lose her life if she persists in this tyrannical attitude albeit the nature of her crimes

Most witnesses seem pointless, nearly all questions from the prosecutor are totally pointless!! On the stand for way too long, an hour to get to the point! Long pauses between each question. The jury must be bored out of their minds.

The judge knows he is allowing testimony that should not be allowed. That is why he gives reasons for allowing testimony. So much hearsay is being allowed. Seems like an unfair trial to me. The testimony is heard then objection and then testimony is discussed because the judge wants to know what is being said which then allows reinforcement of the testimony.

So, does the prosecution have ANY evidence besides the statements from Jake and Angela that George was involved in the killings? The defense is doing a pretty good job showing that Jake would blame George for a lot of bad deeds that Jake was actually guilty of doing, and that Angela preferred Jake over George.
If the prosecution has nothing else on George other than Jake’s and Angela’s statements, then I don’t see how the jury can convict him. If that’s the case, then shoot, they’ve ALL dodged the Death Penalty due to Jake and Angela’s plea deal, and the Prosecution got screwed. I’d call that pretty slick and smooth, myself.

I believe they have footprint(s) of those Walmart shoes in his size at one of the scenes that his mother bought 3 pairs in all their sizes.
This trial isn't even half way through yet. There is a lot more to come. Right now, they are just laying the groundwork. The state has wire taps!!!! They bugged the Wagner's phones and vehicles and supposedly have them all on tape discussing the murders. If they weren't convinced of George's guilt, he wouldn't be on trial.
Before they can even begin to show the results of any lab testing or play the wire tap evidence, they have to give background info and submit the evidence onto the record. They haven't even begun to present the proof yet. This is far from over.

“Sammy” was interviewed on The Piketon Massacre podcast if you’ve listened to it. She said a lot of the same things in the podcast interview that she testified to here today.

There is no dna tied to any of the Wagners. I have to say I have my doubts. This whole trial is really a dice roll.

Correct, there is no DNA tying them to the murders, however, they do have a lot of evidence. I don’t believe that Jake and Angela would have plead guilty and told the prosecution everything had they not believed there was enough evidence to convict them.
Cases were solved and won before DNA evidence. Lack of DNA in this case isn't abnormal. There's no real reason for DNA of murderers to be @ scenes since the murders were done like they were. There's a ton of other evidence that is the result of detective work and confesses.
Jake led the police to the guns (they were in grandmothers' Frederika's pond), parts of silencers, a bullet casing at their home that matched one at the murder scene. They have matched the boot prints to Wal-Mart boots that Angela bought at Wal-Mart. Jake and Angela confessed to the murders based on the evidence the prosecutors have. They confessed so none of them would get the death penalty. DNA is not necessary to convict someone if they have enough other evidence.
Unfortunately cops are allowed to lie during interrogation. Who knows what said to them.That's why we have so many innocence people in jail. They should have kept their mouths shut.
