I 100% agree with this. For the longest time, I used the excuse of “writers block” to trash a bunch of ideas instead of finishing them. Recently I began to work on a song, and I hated it from the start, but I decided to keep working on it instead of just giving up on it, and now, that song is my favorite song I’ve ever made. Great video.
Your reference to the limbic system is spot on. It lines up with executive dysfunction, with how every step forward feels like an uphill climb. I have learned it is also important to be active and present within those moments of idleness, because when you have a daunting task, especially when you have ADHD.. those moments of sitting at the bottom of the mountain is your brain preparing yourself for that climb. I have learned that when you feel stuck, to systematically break down the next few steps, isolate that next step and remind yourself it’s not going to kill you, and that discomfort helps you grow. The more discomfort you surround yourself with, the less your limbic system is going to sound those warning bells the next time it sees the potential for discomfort.
I am currently studying some laws of the universe. What you said: "writer's block doesn't exist. Its actually just your current EMOTIONAL state". that quote alone really emphasises about the way how the mind controls your reality. *LITERALLY.* Very very very very very good video Akayo. Best wishes to you.
it feels so nice hearing someone say that its normal, been struggling since january to make anything, stuff keeps happening and it takes a toll on the mental, but this video makes me wanna break through that wall of fire, thanks bro
If you often find yourself stuck while producing music, consider learning sound design and playing the piano. When I feel like I can't create any songs, I start making sounds, which usually sparks some ideas. The same goes for playing the piano. Give yourself more options to fall back on so you won't feel bad for unable to make songs.
it's same as me, i need to some space for letting the ideas go,like sometimes my client brief was making house music, but when am feeling stuck, i spend some days for making others genres, and then came back to the brief,it's works very well
Lemme know what you think of this one bro :)
