I love the positive message from this video.i love the honesty. Making money or a living as a professional musician is almost impossible without ambition and the ability to innovate and adapt. You are part of a generation that embraces technology and world trends. There are many musicians who are die hards, stubborn or just stuck. You need to add some other reasons to credit your success. You are naturally charismatic and your level of accomplishment is very high. You have made classical music very interesting - that is just you. Not everyone has this ability. However, at least your message is simple - give it a go. Better than wallowing in self doubt! Encouraging video!
Yes often times creators don’t mention the “soft” skills that can aid in one’s journey. Like you said she is charismatic and has a high level of skill. She has a nice speaking voice and on camera presence. She’s used to performing under pressure so that helps with getting over content creation. It’s easier to say technical things people can follow. It would be hard for someone who is an “attractive” musician to say “ Just be attractive and you will have success. That’s how I made it” It sounds vein but we know musicians that have terrible music but are marketable because of their looks.
We’re part of a culture that cares way too much about physical appearance. If you want to make something of yourself, stay in your own lane. Deal with the cards you have. Who cares if someone else is attractive and has success because of it. That’s not you. Discover your own beauty. Especially if you’re an artist
What I love most of all is that she prefaced it by saying that not everyone who is competent, has a niche, or even had some success in the past will want to pursue a career or even public hobby in music. It's exactly where I fall after having some success in my late teens and just losing my drive. When money started becoming a factor, all my passion just went out the window. I still enjoy production, but especially sound design and playing piano (my roots) to this day, but I have absolutely no interest in even sharing anything I do anymore. Maybe with time I'll be able to just enjoy sharing small but interesting things again, but it's just not where I've grown to despite people (somehow) finding and buying my music to this day. It always blows me away that people will stumble into and enjoy things I did 6-8 years ago despite 0 activity on said profiles/platforms. I know I ranted a bit, but realizing that you don't *HAVE* to be a professional musician, producer, etc can really open yourself up to new avenues that still enable you to keep all the joy you have from your creative endeavors without any kind of stress that comes from careership/professionalism in the area. It doesn't make you a failed musician, it doesn't mean you gave up, it simply means that you enjoy it all most when it's just you and your instrument. Music is fundamentally meant to be shared, but like a good joke, the drafts & missteps along the way are things people less familiar with it all typically overlook.

They're saying letting it get in your head is a defeatist attitude. Plenty of artists have found success with a completely anonymous persona for their records. Many people find success who aren't conventionally attractive. The evidence to the contrary that, "that's not how the world works" is all around you. You're just focusing on the negative.

For everyone who just wants to live from making music as soon as possible: there is also busking. I do it for only one year and I do not yet have to live from it. But I can say that even now 30€ an hour is what I get. So with 1-2 hours a day I would actually already have enough to live. So teaching is not the only option, if you dont immediately "make it".
I watch this channel all the time even though I’m a guitar player , This lady apart from great piano skills is just naturally interesting and she is humble and honest, But she also doesn’t ramble on , not a second is wasted on useless info , she really has mastered video creation, it also helps a lot that the camera likes her , being pretty never hurts ,

I feel like I've been on the journey with Nahre for the last 4 years, while following my own path in learning about and working with music. All very good advise, one thing that I have done on a couple of instructional videos that I have made for work is to write out a script. I am terrible at spontaneous speaking, so having thing written out help to keep the flow going, even if I don't end up reading it word for word, it has the path forward so I am not doing the Uhh... Ummm, etc. The other technique that I have noticed that seems to work well for people who have "made it" in RUclips, is to perform the task and then come back and narrate over the top.

I actually used this formula 13 years ago as a photographer and then again 10 years ago as a data analyst/researcher/software engineer. All around a consistent content strategy where I was putting ideas out as posts with a regular cadence until it was inspiring conversations that led to collaboration and future work.

WOW 😲😉 - too few creators share their workflow, including gear. This was a revelation, and I've got more than enough of the gear I need to upload content. Content was also addressed, and I really liked the honest, and at the same time constructive elements of this video! It's too easy to struggle with a phrase, line, grove, piece - whatever floats your boat - and give up. But why not make that very search part of the video: how I overcame my own limitations or bad nerves? Found this video very encouraging and encouraging. Great video Nahre on the importance of Social Media as a musician. It is so strange that during my times of studying in my undergrad. and grad. schools, never did I think that video editing would be such a crucial part of releasing music. A producer friend said to me, "If you don't have your music released on RUclips, you are invisible.". I hope this starts being taught in music conservatories. I am happy that with your videos you have the quality of both your Classical training and your graphic design background marry so well.
Thank you. I was studying music and I found myself pursuing science . I felt kinda incapable when i left because i never achieved what i wanted in composition school. However, Nahre has been so generous to give great advices. Some of these advices are very practical, useful and powerful not only to musicians, but also someone chasing after a scientific career. This is really awesome; you just broke the bank. Many creators and RUclipsrs would make a whole online course out of this content and sell it for $47, $97, or $457, inflating it with unnecessary details. Meanwhile, you stick to the point and create the most useful video for a beginning creator, which can be easily put up with gems like Jack Conte's "Pateron CEO gives bad advice". I wholeheartedly admire your sincerity, straightforwardness, and positive message, and you are just an overall excellent and good human being, and that's on top of your musicianship and educator capabilities. I am honestly not sure whether establishing a sustainable career as a RUclipsr is that much more plannable than becoming a highly demanded performing musician. I often see really well made content that almost nobody watches and I cannot understand what this person does wrong compared to others who have views in the millions. I'm sure consistency, self-marketing, finding an unoccupied niche etc. all play a role. But perhaps there is still a "people watch what people watch" aspect to it for videos like we have "people listen to what people listen to" in music? Some luck factor that is hard to enforce even after all the groundwork is done right. That said, great to see that it works so well for you, well deserved, great, inspiring content!

It's sort of what Gary Vee (and others) have been saying all along: consistently document your journey and gradually, (with consistency and time) like-minded people will become drawn to it.
Great video Nahre as always of course, you're a proof that it is possible. Sadly, I've been struggling with being criminally underappreciated both as a pianist and music educator on the local level (=real life) . It's demoralizing seeing less qualified people always jump the queue to land the gig or job before me due to having connections - Although I have much more to show for in terms of my CV , Portfolio and actual value / technical ability I put on the table. I've been sending hundreds of letters to different countries abroad with no success. I've been working day and night to perfect my craft, improve and increase my knowledge. I've been advertizing myself on social media and trying to reach out to people but none of them is too serious. Feels bad seeing people doing a job I could do much better... yet not seem to land one myself. It's a bit negative I know, because on a rare happy occasion I do get a gig or a lecture booked and it's successful when it does happen. But still, I'm unlucky when it comes to where I live when it comes to sheer opportunity thus I'm working on relocating and praying for a good fortune to meet the right people who'd unlock my actual potential to give the best value to other people doing what I do best.
CV's don't mean anything because people lie on them and/or it's hard to validate information on them. It's much safer to hire someone you know who does the job well and you know. Also, CV's don't tell anything about personal traits: You can hire someone with a great CV and they are annoying, hard to comunicate, etc.
@@gustavoturm I couldn't disagree more. If you don't showcase what you do and just write a few words on your CV than yes you are correct. But if you do have much to show for in terms of presentations e.g images, videos, SIGNED documents, things you've done and developed and recommendations from past workplaces (and I have all of those and more) then it does tell an employer that they are now considering a serious hard working candidate for an interview. For the second part you are right, but that's moot because every employer takes a leap of faith when hiring a new guy. Good CV + Portfolio and impressions from past workplaces just mean the likelihood of that guy you hire being annoying, value-less or any other negative trait are lower. There's a reason why the system works, it's the wisdom of past generations.
Someone smart, with a huge self built talent tells something very interesting in an engaging, humble, polite and non intrusive way. I hope you get the recognition you deserve and want. Thank you for the video 👍
Congratulations on finding your way! Honestly, the very thought of creating social media content makes me sick, which is why I rarely do more than post about upcoming concerts. Maybe I'm getting old, but my successful way to maintain my career as a musician is to socialise in real life, be a good hang around fellow musicians, do favours, always respond quickly to requests and be reliable. Different rabbits, different habits... 🙂
I'm a young musician but this feels more natural to me. Posting on social media just feels wring, always has. Unfortunately, people of my age increasingly don't operate in this old school, organic fashion. Oh well, get up and try again I suppose.

Accept that it is okay to not be perfect and that you're on a journey which everyone else also started not knowing sh*t about what and how to do. Yes she is great as a pianist. I enjoy her channel a lot. The issue I have with Music these days there is none. It's not like the 60,70 and 80 when people made music and played real instruments. Now a days people just take pre played samples put them together and say they are a musician. Now I have had discussions with people and they tell me that they have skill to do this, TO me it's not a skill if you use someone else pre played samples. To me it's called cheating.

The important thing is using the skills developed through music such as discipline and motivation and apply it to an employable field where you can actually make a living.
You should upload some sound design tutorials. Especially if you know anything on an advanced level. Hardly anyone on here knows much about sound design at all.

Thank you for this. I needed it so much. I have a studio in Mississippi called The Song Kitchen that's a few months old that specializes in music lessons and recording music. I perform as a one-man-band on weekends and record client's music from top to bottom. I have taken a very long break from posting consistent content. After watching, I think creating regular posts may enhance the quality of my reputation in all my musical jobs so I can grow in the direction I want to go in, have more freedom, and have more time to do what I love most. (After a few months of hard work that is... 🙂)

Wow. I love that Nahre Sol shares so much with us, her audience. I am a poor retiree but I will keep contribute to Sol on Patreon and I hope my little drop of help will be one of thousands drops. Also love the glass-perls, demos, illustrations, but what is most important is that we are not striving to be a "genius", but to make solid art, music which speaks. One should think that this is straightforward, but when a comment says "Schubert is better" then luckily I feel assured by Nahre Sol that this is not about being "the best" -- only "one" can be the best and it is not interesting. BTW who is the judge? The goal is to be good.

As a music teacher, this is the last video I'd show to a student. All those hours you spend around making a video you can read stuff, listen, talk to other musicians, because this is an infinite art which requires all efforts and time in life. Maybe in your musician life you will need other jobs in order to actually be a musician; but this is not an injustice, that's life, and is also good to learn. I'm glad you found your purpose by creating content, but I'm sure there are so many looking for other ways of success or joy. This comment is not for the creator, but for those who are lost and this video didn't solve a thing.
i think she made it pretty clear that she's only speaking about what worked for her. she explicitly said that this way of life, artistry, and motivation is not for everyone. i wouldn't do this personally as someone who isn't seeking a career in music, but i'm really grateful she does post content & personally benefit from it :)

@@userAAit can absolutely pay for that, and far more. she averages 100-200k views every video (with some getting much more) and posts often. her cpm would be quite high for this type of channel, so that’s easily $1-2k per 100 thousand views (she has 42 million). not to mention, she has a sponsorship on pretty much every video, and I haven’t even mentioned other social media platforms.
I have many struggles with my confidence an it has affected my career as a composer and violinist when it comes to building an audience and showing my work, and I've repeated the loop of trying and giving up many times. I wished for the strength to overcome it cause I feel that nowadays if you don't have a more active presence on the internet as an artist, you are not going to get anywhere and you will just get more depressed to do anything. Thank you for doing this video, being a musician is such a hard career in this overpopulated world with very little opportunities for all of us, but I'm happy there's content like this one from people that understand those struggles and tries to help others. Thank you so much.

I indeed had a few ideas for posts, so thanks for the inspiration! Hope your channel continues to grow! My piano teacher recommended me your channel on RUclips and he's very strict, so I knew he saw something good in your technique that I could use as a model for me. Didn't think I'd be getting social media tips a few years later, but if it helps to practice and get motivation, I'm happy!

Hi Nahre ! I really appreciate this video. I've had some really challenging experiences when I’ve shared videos of my guitar playing in social media . And I really like your approach . It is true that we cannot please everyone but as you said if we focus on what we are interested in and we post regularly , eventually, you will build a following hopefully!! I know that I have the skill and that as I continue to learn more as a guitarist and musician I'll keep growing. It would be hard for someone who is an “attractive” musician to say “ Just be attractive and you will have success. That’s how I made it” It sounds vein but we know musicians that have terrible music but are marketable because of their looks.
We’re part of a culture that cares way too much about physical appearance. If you want to make something of yourself, stay in your own lane. Deal with the cards you have. Who cares if someone else is attractive and has success because of it. That’s not you. Discover your own beauty. Especially if you’re an artist

What I love most of all is that she prefaced it by saying that not everyone who is competent, has a niche, or even had some success in the past will want to pursue a career or even public hobby in music. It's exactly where I fall after having some success in my late teens and just losing my drive. When money started becoming a factor, all my passion just went out the window. I still enjoy production, but especially sound design and playing piano (my roots) to this day, but I have absolutely no interest in even sharing anything I do anymore. Maybe with time I'll be able to just enjoy sharing small but interesting things again, but it's just not where I've grown to despite people (somehow) finding and buying my music to this day. It always blows me away that people will stumble into and enjoy things I did 6-8 years ago despite 0 activity on said profiles/platforms.
I know I ranted a bit, but realizing that you don't *HAVE* to be a professional musician, producer, etc can really open yourself up to new avenues that still enable you to keep all the joy you have from your creative endeavors without any kind of stress that comes from careership/professionalism in the area. It doesn't make you a failed musician, it doesn't mean you gave up, it simply means that you enjoy it all most when it's just you and your instrument. Music is fundamentally meant to be shared, but like a good joke, the drafts & missteps along the way are things people less familiar with it all typically overlook.

They're saying letting it get in your head is a defeatist attitude. Plenty of artists have found success with a completely anonymous persona for their records. Many people find success who aren't conventionally attractive. The evidence to the contrary that, "that's not how the world works" is all around you. You're just focusing on the negative.
I can´t believe that there are haters that attack even you. You seem like such a relaxed, nice, innocent and highly professional musician that does a lot to help other musicians. To much wicked people in this world!!!🙄😑

For everyone who just wants to live from making music as soon as possible: there is also busking. I do it for only one year and I do not yet have to live from it. But I can say that even now 30€ an hour is what I get. So with 1-2 hours a day I would actually already have enough to live. So teaching is not the only option, if you dont immediately "make it".

All very good advise, one thing that I have done on a couple of instructional videos that I have made for work is to write out a script. I am terrible at spontaneous speaking, so having thing written out help to keep the flow going, even if I don't end up reading it word for word, it has the path forward so I am not doing the Uhh... Ummm, etc. The other technique that I have noticed that seems to work well for people who have "made it" in RUclips, is to perform the task and then come back and narrate over the top.

I actually used this formula 13 years ago as a photographer and then again 10 years ago as a data analyst/researcher/software engineer. All around a consistent content strategy where I was putting ideas out as posts with a regular cadence until it was inspiring conversations that led to collaboration and future work.

WOW 😲😉 - too few creators share their workflow, including gear. This was a revelation, and I've got more than enough of the gear I need to upload content. Content was also addressed, and I really liked the honest, and at the same time constructive elements of this video! It's too easy to struggle with a phrase, line, grove, piece - whatever floats your boat - and give up. But why not make that very search part of the video: how I overcame my own limitations or bad nerves?

Great video Nahre on the importance of Social Media as a musician. It is so strange that during my times of studying in my undergrad. and grad. schools, never did I think that video editing would be such a crucial part of releasing music. A producer friend said to me, "If you don't have your music released on RUclips, you are invisible.". I hope this starts being taught in music conservatories. I am happy that with your videos you have the quality of both your Classical training and your graphic design background marry so well.

This is really awesome; you just broke the bank. Many creators and RUclipsrs would make a whole online course out of this content and sell it for $47, $97, or $457, inflating it with unnecessary details. Meanwhile, you stick to the point and create the most useful video for a beginning creator, which can be easily put up with gems like Jack Conte's "Pateron CEO gives bad advice". I wholeheartedly admire your sincerity, straightforwardness, and positive message, and you are just an overall excellent and good human being, and that's on top of your musicianship and educator capabilities. I am honestly not sure whether establishing a sustainable career as a RUclipsr is that much more plannable than becoming a highly demanded performing musician.
I often see really well made content that almost nobody watches and I cannot understand what this person does wrong compared to others who have views in the millions. I'm sure consistency, self-marketing, finding an unoccupied niche etc. all play a role. But perhaps there is still a "people watch what people watch" aspect to it for videos like we have "people listen to what people listen to" in music? Some luck factor that is hard to enforce even after all the groundwork is done right.
That said, great to see that it works so well for you, well deserved, great, inspiring content!

Great video Nahre as always of course, you're a proof that it is possible. Sadly, I've been struggling with being criminally underappreciated both as a pianist and music educator on the local level (=real life) . It's demoralizing seeing less qualified people always jump the queue to land the gig or job before me due to having connections - Although I have much more to show for in terms of my CV , Portfolio and actual value / technical ability I put on the table. I've been sending hundreds of letters to different countries abroad with no success. I've been working day and night to perfect my craft, improve and increase my knowledge. I've been advertizing myself on social media and trying to reach out to people but none of them is too serious. Feels bad seeing people doing a job I could do much better... yet not seem to land one myself. It's a bit negative I know, because on a rare happy occasion I do get a gig or a lecture booked and it's successful when it does happen. But still, I'm unlucky when it comes to where I live when it comes to sheer opportunity thus I'm working on relocating and praying for a good fortune to meet the right people who'd unlock my actual potential to give the best value to other people doing what I do best.
CV's don't mean anything because people lie on them and/or it's hard to validate information on them. It's much safer to hire someone you know who does the job well and you know. Also, CV's don't tell anything about personal traits: You can hire someone with a great CV and they are annoying, hard to comunicate, etc.
@@gustavoturm I couldn't disagree more. If you don't showcase what you do and just write a few words on your CV than yes you are correct. But if you do have much to show for in terms of presentations e.g images, videos, SIGNED documents, things you've done and developed and recommendations from past workplaces (and I have all of those and more) then it does tell an employer that they are now considering a serious hard working candidate for an interview. For the second part you are right, but that's moot because every employer takes a leap of faith when hiring a new guy. Good CV + Portfolio and impressions from past workplaces just mean the likelihood of that guy you hire being annoying, value-less or any other negative trait are lower. There's a reason why the system works, it's the wisdom of past generations.
Someone smart, with a huge self built talent tells something very interesting in an engaging, humble, polite and non intrusive way. I hope you get the recognition you deserve and want. Thank you for the video 👍
Congratulations on finding your way! Honestly, the very thought of creating social media content makes me sick, which is why I rarely do more than post about upcoming concerts. Maybe I'm getting old, but my successful way to maintain my career as a musician is to socialise in real life, be a good hang around fellow musicians, do favours, always respond quickly to requests and be reliable. Different rabbits, different habits... 🙂
I'm a young musician but this feels more natural to me. Posting on social media just feels wring, always has. Unfortunately, people of my age increasingly don't operate in this old school, organic fashion. Oh well, get up and try again I suppose.

Accept that it is okay to not be perfect and that you're on a journey which everyone else also started not knowing sh*t about what and how to do. Follow your heart, trust your guts and choose friendship over money. That's what I learned. I know I still don't know...

The issue I have with Music these days there is none. It's not like the 60,70 and 80 when people made music and played real instruments.
Now a days people just take pre played samples put them together and say they are a musician. Now I have had discussions with people and they tell me that they have skill to do this, TO me it's not a skill if you use someone else pre played samples. To me it's called cheating.

The important thing is using the skills developed through music such as discipline and motivation and apply it to an employable field where you can actually make a living.
You should upload some sound design tutorials. Especially if you know anything on an advanced level. Hardly anyone on here knows much about sound design at all.

Thank you for this. I needed it so much. I have a studio in Mississippi called The Song Kitchen that's a few months old that specializes in music lessons and recording music. I perform as a one-man-band on weekends and record client's music from top to bottom. I have taken a very long break from posting consistent content. After watching, I think creating regular posts may enhance the quality of my reputation in all my musical jobs so I can grow in the direction I want to go in, have more freedom, and have more time to do what I love most. (After a few months of hard work that is... 🙂)

As a music teacher, this is the last video I'd show to a student. All those hours you spend around making a video you can read stuff, listen, talk to other musicians, because this is an infinite art which requires all efforts and time in life. Maybe in your musician life you will need other jobs in order to actually be a musician; but this is not an injustice, that's life, and is also good to learn. I'm glad you found your purpose by creating content, but I'm sure there are so many looking for other ways of success or joy. This comment is not for the creator, but for those who are lost and this video didn't solve a thing.
i think she made it pretty clear that she's only speaking about what worked for her. she explicitly said that this way of life, artistry, and motivation is not for everyone. i wouldn't do this personally as someone who isn't seeking a career in music, but i'm really grateful she does post content & personally benefit from it :)

I have many struggles with my confidence an it has affected my career as a composer and violinist when it comes to building an audience and showing my work, and I've repeated the loop of trying and giving up many times. I wished for the strength to overcome it cause I feel that nowadays if you don't have a more active presence on the internet as an artist, you are not going to get anywhere and you will just get more depressed to do anything. Thank you for doing this video, being a musician is such a hard career in this overpopulated world with very little opportunities for all of us, but I'm happy there's content like this one from people that understand those struggles and tries to help others.
