I’ve had placements with Trippie Redd, Kehlani, Machine Gun Kelly and many more and I think this is one of the greatest videos. there are so many reasons to overthink now as a producer, especially with all the tutorials, producer info, keyword search help … all this content creates the illusion that you were actually doing something for yourself by watching it… but the bottom line is if you don’t make music as much as possible, you will never create the quality you need to obtain a career! JUST PRODUCE. Love it. My entire career has blossomed just by DOING IT. Not by watching tutorials, or getting sucked into “doing the right thing”, it’s by taking chances and dropping beats every single day

I paused the video when you listed
    -limiting beliefs
    -perfectionism
    -overthinking
so I could see how these three things affected me. Personally, I realized I strive so hard to sound perfect that it became dreadful and i ended up telling myself its not possible which caused me to only think about that when it came to making music.

This is a great philosophy not only in music production but in life as well. Challenge your limiting beliefs, let go of judgement of yourself and others, and live every day as a perpetual novice, constantly learning and growing. You really tapped into some good stuff here.

Great vid! This reminds me of Nic D's story:
He was super hype about a song he made, so he wanted to prepare a ton of promotional content for it and stuff like that.
While preparing for its' release he wanted to quickly release something "in between". He made a song in 2 afternoons and released it without paying too much though to it.
The song he made "in between" ended up being his most viral hit. The one he was actually hype about - flopped.

I was making music in my early twenties. I was making so many beats and enjoyed my own beats even if someone didn’t like them. But then overthinking really got me. And i stopped altogether. Now im 32 and feel so bad for not continuing producing music. I’m starting again with a new mindset. Thank you for the encouragement brother.

Interesting thing is, many times the songs you think are not your best (the ones you spent less time producing and mixing) seem to be the ones that your listeners like the most. Just get quality stuff done as fast as you can and publish, end of overthinking. It's a mindset. Also, very true that our music isn't that precious. Awesome video!

Thank you for this, man. Lately, I almost stopped producing because I felt my music was going nowhere, that I was not improving, that it wasn't this good after all ... But after watching your video, I thought that maybe I should try keeping up, I went back to some of my numerous abandonned projects, I tried not to be as judgemental as before and to stop overthinking about the process, the lack of techniques that I could hear in some aspects of the track, and the result is, even if it doesn't sound perfect, but at least I eventually managed to enjoy doing music again, and I finished some projects that I was struggling with.
Thank you for this, Akayo. I'll do my best to keep in mind your advices.

perfectionism, limiting beliefs, and overthinking stem from one thing that’s deeper
    Conflicting goals,
If you are trying to produce music because of X
    Where x is
    To make money
    To get fans
To prove how good you are
Then you are not producing to make music.
Simply changing your goal to instead be the process of production, but more importantly the enjoyment of the process is the fastest way to overcome perfectionism, overthinking, and limiting beliefs.
    Hopefully this helps someone :)

The things that really spoke to me were about
    -perfectionism
Because I’m working on a track right now and yesterday i was really having fun producing it but then I started overthinking and stopped for the day
Now here I am today trying to work on the same track, but it isn’t as fun today, because it feels forced
This video just popped up on my feed, and I’ve never heard of your channel before, but it was the perfect video for me right now.

It's true though, overthinking kills your creativity.
Whenever i overthink it's like new ideas stops coming and i am stuck in that same thing.
But if I don't overthink new ideas are popping like crazy. But also overthinking is not in my control, it's just natural to me.

I have always been very critical and demanding with my own music, and this means that only 10 or 20% of my projects are released.
Sometimes, when I listen to the music of another artist within my same genre, I think: if I had created that track, I would surely not be satisfied with it and would throw it away. This makes me think that you are most likely right.

This is just the video I needed 😅 Real talk, I'd probably get a lot more done if I wasn't obsessing over "does the kick hit right" (as an example). Drum production and general mixing are my Achilles Heel, and I overthink that stuff to such an insane degree that I actually wind up making a good track worse than if I'd just let it go. Great video, man.

IDK, man... I think your advice is good, but I personally have a different kind of problem... A lot of times I have an almost completed track - the last part is to add the synths everywhere, but the problem is that I don't really know what I want and what will or won't sound good. Ok, that doesn't stop and I try a bunch of random stuff, then go like "Ok, I'm onto something". After that I start doing sound design (which takes a lot of time, because I'm pretty sluggish in general (in regard to everything IRL)) and make some patches that sound like shit. And then I spend hours to "decrapify" them.
That's my problem and I don't know what to do about that.

The making of more music is the fun killer. You have to make less music for it to be fun. Why do you need to make more music? Even the best artists (or producers), with decades of experience, actually have no more than 20-30 good tracks. And they are usually at the beginning of their musical journey. Maybe couple of years from the initial point of starting of producing. Not at the 20th year of their careers. Only the composers (film) are actually making better “tracks” with experience and age…
