This is my favourite Canadian band. They were very prolific, and varied in their songwriting, releasing 20 albums since 1971. In 1972 they opened for a few more large acts, like Ike & Tina Turner, Jethro Tull, Badfinger and Stevie Wonder.
"Roller" will rock your socks off Harry. "Weeping Widow" will amaze. "I Wanna Rock" will impress you too.
April Wine are a hidden Canadian rock gem and deserve more recognition.
Born in '72 in Canada. This band is the soundtrack of my life.
Couldn't imagine not knowing about them!
My favorite April Wine song. I can put this on loop for hours and never tire of it.......masterpiece.
Same. 😊
Me too - I NEVER get tired of it !!!
3 guitars, bass n drums. This Album was released late in '79 and is viewed as their first album of the 80s. 16 studio albums, multiple live n Greatest Hits compilations. April Wine is unquestionably one of the best bands to come from Canada. Their catalog is extensive and very impressive. From piano ballads, power Rock Ballads to Hard Rock. Every one of their 16 studio albums has great stuff. Check out their '92 album, Attitude. They continue to tour, with lead singer/song writer Myles Goodwyn continuing to record. PS: Jimmy Clench, Steve Lang and now Myles Goodwyn, RIP
Rest in peace, Myles.
R.I.P. Myles
April Wine: When two lead guitars just aren't enough.
I was a Canadian lad in my twenties when April Wine were in their prime. Absolutely love these Canucks. Check out Bad Side of the Moon, Could Have Been a Lady and Drop Your Guns....monster rock songs.
Oowatanite is also GREAT! I had such a crush on Myles Goodwin ❤ 🇨🇦
I love "Drop Your Guns"!
Miles Goodwin is the singer and main songwriter. He is the master of the pattern of "intro's, solo's, and outros. True masters of their art.
Myles Goodwyn, sadly passed away Sunday 3rd December '23. He is now recognized as one of Canada's best singer song writer's and guitarist of the Classic Rock Era. RIP
This whole album should be listened to in one sitting!
Putting it on right now!
This is one of my personal favorites by Aprilwine. Great pick Louis. I knew you would dig it Harri. I've listened to it about a 54,368 times over the years. Give a or take a few. 😀
Me too, my favorite, the drum intro sends goose bumps down my soul
I can't believe you haven't heard their song " roller" that song is a banger✌️
Great live band, we’re playing some great shows back in the late 70’s. Remember them well as they opened for many big names such as Rush.
I was in London Ontario in the early '90's when they did a free concert in the Victoria Park as part of their comeback tour. They were expecting around 4,000 people....over 40,000 showed up. It was unbelievable. what an incredible day!
Another great Candian band out of Nova Scotia.🇨🇦 April Wine has produced over 20
Rockin' albums.
The instruments, drums and guitars amazing and fabulous vocals make for a great listen anytime. Although most of their songs absolutely rocking they have a few great slower songs too.
Just Between You and Me
You Won't Dance With Me
I Wouldn't Want to Lose Your Love
Wonderfully produced music.
Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Louis. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
That’s “Just between You an Me”
Thanks. I knew that. Lol old age. ✌️👍🎶🇨🇦
Hugely under appreciated band....Canada's very best guitar band...3 leads who all rocked...The drummer Jerry Mercer was previously in a band called Mashmakhan who had a huge hit in 1969 called As the Years Go By....!!! Happy Holidays peeps..!
Bassist Steve Lang and guitarist Brian Greenway also played with Mashmakhan.
they did an incredible cover of King Crimson 21st Century Schizoid Man too
Love April Wine! A Great rhythm rockin band. Also love their vocals! They blend so well together!
My favorite song from '72 is Could Have Been A Lady. Sure wore the 45 out as the expression goes!
Tho I enjoy all their songs thanks to one of my rocker brothers (rip). My BFF liked their cover of the Beatles song Tell Me Why. Smooth and Sultry with great guitar licks. (Expect nothing less 😎 )
As you enjoy Canadian bands, check out Powder Blues Band's Hear that Guitar Ring or Lighthouse's Sunny Days or Pretty Lady.
I listened to this band throughout high school and graduated in 1978. I saw them a few times when they visited Regina. Lots of good Canadian bands throughout history including my era. Cheers.
This song is so good and one of my favorites. Used it on a mix tape that I gave to a girl back in the 80's.
This was my very first concert in 1973! 3 Bands $15! Love April Wine! #harribestreactions
April Wine Played at my high school in 1975.(Chateauguay, Que) Been a Fan ever since.
Gordon lightfoot, Triumph, Saga, Rush, April Wine, Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, Anne Murray, it goes on and on... Canadians rock! Apologies for anyone I've missed!
Jerry Mercer on drums has been with the band for 35 years. Retired in 2008 at 70 yrs old. He always played up on a high drum tower. When he settled his huge frame in behind the kit, everyone knew they'd better look out. This was going to be a bad mf'n performance. Taste and power. btw: I last saw them in 2001 as a 4 pc. The two guitarists traded parts, and covered the organ parts on guitar. It was so well done. They are the only two long time members in the band today.
Jerry was also a very funky drummer for Mashmakhan who had many cool tracks.
That's cool. Didn't know that. They were playing high schools back in my day. But not mine. lol. I have a Mashmakhan album. Favorite song is "Mr. Tree." @@lawrencebrissenden
I had to go to my music list and find that album that I digitized. "The Family". Their second recording. Forgot about the song "Children Of The Sun". Great stuff.@@lawrencebrissenden
@@slowfinger2 The Family album is a lost masterpiece by Mashmakhan. I like Baby Come Home and the long version of As The Years Go By from the Festival Express movie too.
Hi Harri, try Streetheart, under my thumb it's awesome canadien band too, April wine rocks, try high roller 🥰✌️🕶
Streetheart Action gets my vote
Love the bass and guitar on that one
Definitely got my vote for Under My Thumb!
Best April Wine song. Saw them live back in the 80s. Great live band.
The song Rock and Roll is a vicious Game is awesome. One of April wine's best.
Great Canadian rock band. They had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's. Some of my favorites are “Sign Of The Gypsy Queen”, “You Could Have Been A Lady”, Just Between You & Me”, “Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love”, "Roller", "Before The Dawn" etc.
OOwatanite
I’m going to see April Wine in concert tonight. Love them so much!!! 🙌🏼❤️🙌🏼
I once read a comment that said "Canada gave Rush to the world but kept The Tragically Hip for ourselves" and I think April Wine is the same. One of the most underrated Canadian bands. RIP Myles Goodwyn, who was the principal songwriter.
Agree , Like the lyric says Let's go out and paint the town and we could turn the world around , great memories as teenager 🎸🎸
April Wine, one of the most underrated bands in Canada is only partially true. They were one of the most underrated bands in the world. I can't lie, I shed a tear or two when I heard of Myles passing. He will be missed.
LOVE this song and album. My friends and I listened to this all year when we were seniors in high school. Tonite and I like to rock are the other two highlights off the album.
Hi from Canada. I love April Wine and saw them in concert in the mid 70's. I don't know how to request songs on your site so I am trying in the comments. Roy Orbison has a Christmas song call Pretty Paper that was written by Willie Nelson. I haven't seen anyone react to it yet.
What you said about the Canadians is so true! They can ROCK SO HARD! I've loved so many Canadian bands, and April Wine is a band that I've loved since... decades ago :)
And Men Without Hats. :-)
Great band had the pleasure many times
I was turned on to this tune when I watched the movie "Stuber" it played during the closing credits. love it
About a decade ago, we caught them at the PNE, in Raincouver, an impressive show, his vocals & guitar abilities still intact...Miles recollected to the audience how many of their bigger songs were penned in Las Vegas ✒️ 🎰
🇨🇦
Great reaction to a great song and a great band Harri. I have been a fan since 1973 and in my opinion April Wine never put out a bad song. Badass but not bad. ✌️😊🇨🇦
I think part of the reason Canadian rock bands back in the day were so effing good is the sane reason why Canadian comedians have been so successful in Hollywood: we Canadians combine the appropriate mix of American and British sensibilities, which is fundamentally the essence of Canada, although in recent decades, is tilting decidedly more towards American.
My absolutely favorite April Wine song of all time! It makes you go into an aural fantasy and a Summer Saturday afternoon when it isn't even Summer or Saturday!
Wore out 3 cassettes playing this. Had it on reel to reel also. Looking at the album right now, love it.
Thanks for getting more April Wine on the channel. This is a forgotten track off Harder Faster. One of my favorites.
Oowatanite my favourite April Wine tune. I think Harri would like it.
Jerry Mercer on the drums; a monster. When I was a kid growing up in Montreal (where they hit it big) they were *the* rock band. Nothing fancy! But of so easy to enjoy.
PS Check out Streetheart, another Canadian band. Action is the best song.
April Wine was great at changing up sounds…….they could hit hard at anytime!
"Roller" is by far their best song. You want to watch the live version. The drum, guitar and vocals will literally blow your mind .
Agree with the fact that the only weakness of this song is its shortness: have been looking for an extended version since I heard it for the first time! Great composition
Been waiting for someone to react to this gem! Nice job!!
Good choice.Try,"All over town".Thanks.
I love our Canadian musicians. Something about our long winters that causes our bands to really be awesome. Harri, check out Triumph.
I’ve listened to this song 3 to 4 times a week since I was a freshman in college in 1981 and I never get tired of it!
The first time I ever heard this song years ago I had the same complaint - THIS SONG IS WAY TOO SHORT !!!
My favorite band. I must have seen them 6 times. I loved this band from the 70s. There early stuff is great as well. bad moon rising comes to mine :). I have there first album ever made. i think I even have and unplugged album.
Had the same first reaction when I first heard this song... the drums!!
Songs had to be short to be on the radio. Great reaction. April Wine had many hits.
Went to a few highschool dances with April Wine playing back in the 70s. Nice Harri
Love it! Keep the great reactions and a great music coming!
One of my favorite April Wine songs. Great reaction, thanks 🤘
Check out Sign of the Gypsy Queen.
April wine is a gem
I saw them here in Vt and they all signed my album except for Miles. We were drinking with the guitarist and he said Miles takes off every time right after the shows to get home to his family❤ Jerry Mercer on those drums,…. Omg, this band was so tight!!! I could have seen them a million times!!!!! Glad I had the chance!!!!! They kick ass!!!!!! The riffs are killer, it’s sooooo good! You HAVE to play it LOUD on surround sound!!!!!!!
Ohmygosh, I can't believe someone is reacting to this song! It's a killer, but not one of their more renowned
Jerry Mercer is the drummer, Neil Peart considered his playing on Mashmakhans "Letters From Zambia" to be influential in his development as a musician.
Love so much of their stuff, particularly the earlier stuff. Not quite as polished but a different energy, more of a growling tone. Check out Cats Claw and the Band Has Just Begun
I would bet that you would love the whole album called Forever For Now by April Wine
This song is so god damn smooth.
Great reaction! Check out their song "Bad Side Of The Moon"!
Great reaction to a song that's pure fire
Thought so, I knew this would water 💧 up your eyes 😂🤣😂
Out in Western Canada there a was news cast that used the main beat of this song for several years as their intro.
It’s a vibe for sure!
Wonder what Harri will think when he realises this is not Rock April Wine, but the Pop April Wine. Roller will knock him down.
Cool to watch you enjoy our music - try All Over Town by them, I'm sure You'll like it - cheers from Montreal!
this is my fav. from them
Drop Your Guns is an oldie but a goodie by April Wine.
Gotta hear Oowatanite from April Wine
I was in grade school the first time I heard that Alarm Bell (check out Oowatanite) on the car radio I was hooked. One bit of Canadian Content I was happy about.
Saw them at Rosemere high back when one of the students was donald k donald who became a huge promoter in MTL think 1971
It's a great song, a favourite of mine.
Rest in peace, Myles Goodwyn.
This is a good jam . Takes me right back to high school man .
Don't care too much for April Wine but this song is their best by far. Ok, I Like To Rock is just as good.
You don't like ROLLER ?
A favorite
I agree with you, much too short!!! Another short song from them "Lady Run , Lady Hide" written by Myles Goodwyn, actually was an ecology song, written 50 years ago (!) about humans destroying our Mother Earth! Guess we didn't learn from Myles gospel. 😕
1 drmmer, 1 singer, 1 bassis, AND, 3 lead guitarists!
The late 70's/early 80's was a fantastic era to be a young Canadian lad! Sadly, now, not so much.
My fathers cousin owns some of April Wines songs, she gets royalties when they are played on the radio. Her husband produces them along with, Bryan Adams, Michael Pagliero...you should review his songs!
April Wine is so badass. So many great songs that never got any airtime it’s sick.
Definitely try Future Tense next. You won’t be disappointed.
This a song that you cranked up on a Friday night Saturday crusie downtown Young St or just out with the boys checking out the scenery . It Rocked😮
RIP MYLES 🎶🤘😢 YOU WILL BE MISSED 🎶❤️
Is lots of april wine to do .just pick anyone
This song blew out car speakers back in the day
Awesome Song !
Great reaction! Try reacting to Roller or Ooh Wattanite by them.
Before the Dawn, Roller, crash and burn, sign of the gypsy queen, just between you and me, just to name a few 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Many good songs! My favourite song is Runners In The Night, kind of a deep cut maybe. 🔥🔥🔥
Very prolific Band. This is a much more complicated song than it may seem. Drums are playing in 4/4 while the melody is actually in 6/8, and yet it works beautifully.
That drum intro... wow.
Dude, I am an American who delayed my subcription to you (but gave you my likes) because I was oversubscribed. My second listening review to your reaction to this song changed my mind. You predate many other *first reaction* videos out there and you deserve kudos!
My youth...
April Wine where rock gods in Canada..
It could only have sounded better if it was 5:58 What a vibe. Sounds just as good, all these years later.
Wow! :D Exactly. I think it is a scandal that this band has never been inducted into the R&R hall of fame. To hell with them fools.
😛
