These guys are rock royalty here in CANADA.... so many great tunes and they still play the hell out of e'm up here.
I grew up on the border of Vermont and Quebec in NY State. I grew up listen to CHOM 97.7 in Montreal, got a ton of April Wine, Tragically Hip, Rush, Saga, Loverboy, Brian Adams and every other great Canadian band. I'm 55 now, live in Virginia and miss CHOM and WIZN out of Vermont.
My favorite April Wine song , always has a spot on my playlist ,,,,,its a masterpiece
Mine too!
One of the most overlooked Canadian bands..in my opinion
Thanks for being open to Canadian Gem 💎
I hoped you would appreciate it and it's awesome to see the recognition from so many here in the community 😊
Thank you Sean!! We appreciate you!!
I do too! ☺
These guys Rocked us Canadians for a long time😂❤
Great song, kick ass underrated band. Hope you spin Roller by them, its a Banger!
Yes! And the long version instead of the radio version if you love guitar solos...
This is song is, and has always continued to be a continual fantasy for me! Thanks guys!
Criminally underrated band here in the US. Saw them live at the Warfield way back in the early 80's with Loverboy; what a great show! Introduced them to my son-in-law who'd never heard of them; now he has all their records.
America's loss was our gain - Canadian Rock Bands struggle to get gigs in the US through the 70s and 80s. Either they were too unknown or too good to open for American Headliners. First time hearing Loverboy was performing in our very small local pub on Vancouver Island.
@@T-ShirtMagic Couldn't agree with you more
One of the greatest classic rock bands period, let alone out of Canada. These guys had their own groove, and nailed it every time. RIP Myles Goodwyn!
I saw April Wine live in 1981 in Denver Colorado and they absolutely Shredded it .
3 amazing Guitarists 🎸🎸🎸
And a phenominal Drummer
Awesome Canadian band, they have ALOT of great material!
Love this track. Always felt Jerry Mercer's drumming held this groove together and never let it get out of control.
Gerry retired and living in Newfoundland
They had such diverse sounds, which I like. Not sure if you've done "Roller,' but you need to.
RIP Myles. April Wine have been rockin the Great White North since 1970 or so.
We loved 'em down in Texas. San Antonio, rock city (back in the day).
Glad to see some April Wine here! April Wine, Max Webster (and Kim Mitchell), The Tragically Hip, Triumph, The Spoons, Sloan, Red Rider, BTO, The Guess Who, Blue Peter and many many more Canadian bands to discover.
wow... blue peter.. that's a name i haven't heard in many years. I remember learning of them from New Music (same way i learned of Yaz).
Side note: So weird to see JD Roberts on Fox years later...
54-40, Prism, Harlequin, Trooper, Spirit of the West, Goddo, David Wilcox, Matthew Sweet, Great Big Sea.. lol sorry, I got carried away.
Thinking of great summers at Key to Bala in 80's / 90's
Totally agree.. Kim Mitchell / Max Webster are/ were epic. However, I found they could be a bit of acquired taste.
Nice pick guys RIP Myles Goodwin. Just never really hit outside Canada but they rocked the he'll outta us!
I used to turn my very loud truck speakers to max volume to these guys while cruising. They were very popular in WA state in the 70's/80's.
Here in Ohio we gave them a very warm welcome, along with Rush of course!
I don't know about that ! From way down South here they were always a main stream known band.
Happy to hear you folks south of the border were paying attention!!! Cheers
Lot of love for April Wine in Michigan!
Great reaction! They're Canadian. Another groovy tune of theirs you should check out is "Bad Side Of The Moon"!
Ditto! Great early tune of theirs
Absolutely, yeah! One of very few covers they released. It's an Elton John song, but April Wine did it better than the original.
This song is on almost every play list I've ever made. Never sick of it. Saw them at the old Exhibition Stadium in Toronto 1980 - Loverboy was the backup. Amazing concert - great band.
Yep! Two different time signatures: Drums on a 4/4, but everyone else at 6/8. Gives it a funky sound with some very nice fills as they periodically resolve. Awesome!
They are Canadian 🇨🇦
Great band! Three lead guitars.
Myles Goodwin the lead vocalist just passed recently.
I see you did Roller before.
Bad Side of the moon
Sign of the Gypsy Queen
are a couple more.
Canada rocks! 🇨🇦✌️
Great selection guys... April Wine opened for Rush in the early 80's ... Amazing live band. These guys were legit. Not fabricated. They played their music. Extremely tight band. Double Drummers. Fantastic!!
Ahhh another great Canadian band....Alwaus did gigs in small venues too. Ohh the many years nice small bars, here at home in Toronto we had a blast, we got 2.5 hrs . Womderful rabbit hole. Just between you and me, Sign of the gypsy Queen!
Cheers
Great reaction and great band! Oh man! They come from my hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia! Roller is another great one to check out. Thanks guys!
Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, they moved to Montreal, where they signed their first record deal and were primarily based out of there or Toronto for the rest of their career. They released 16 studio albums and 4 or 5 live albums. They toured in the US a bit as an opening act for acts such as The Stones, Rush, and Styx but only saw limited commercial success in the states, while in Canada they were regarded as stars.
Great reaction guys!! Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada is where April Wine calls home!
These guys really know how to rock (and sing some great ballads too!)
HIGHLY recommend an early 'hard' rock track called Weeping Widow if you want your socks blown off. Other musts: Sign Of The Gypsy Queen, Roller, This Could Be The Right One, Rock Myself To Sleep, I'm On Fire For You Baby, I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love and especially, Fast Train!
Great 70's/80's rock! Cheers!
You know your WINE bruh! This brings back such an innocence. Motown Love and Rock and Roll harmony. It was all good. April Wine could definitely hit the heavy jams too. "Roller" probably to my memory was the song that raised the roof at parties and bars in college. One of the best party rock songs ever really.
@@Greg-io1ipthanks! Love me some Wine! They've passed through my hometown, about an hour south-west of Toronto, plenty of times. Pretty much the ultimate bar band! Roller is one of my faves. Cheers.
@@EchoesDaBear All great music brings the brotherly love ... And sisters too. Back then the agents targeted males because we had the jobs. But those concerts would have women everywhere back then if they had their own money. I do remember April Wine brought in more women than Rush. Even Alex, Geddy and Neil joked about it their whole careers!!! But it was simply guys mostly had the extra spending money.
Early 80's in the U.S. (I graduated 81) I had a '73 Dodge Charger SE. 4 - Jensen Triaxals in the back shelf, 2 - Co-axis in the front. I would pop the trunk, open the front door,
and the party was officially on with this song! lol.
Victoria, BC. Vancouver Island, Canada - caught their live arena rock shows twice annually all through the entire 80s decade. Grateful to have been in my *20s in the 80s* but regret taken all our Canadian rock talent for granted, usually too high to really appreciate them fully.
Great underrated Canadian band - prominent in mid to late 70s into the 80s.
Canadian icons! Thx for featuring them. More Canadian content please - we have a treasure trove of great musicians.
Canada ROCKS. My absolute favourite band when I was teenager growing up in the 70s in Nova Scotia where the band was from originally. Loved their music ever since. RIP Myles Goodwin, Jerry Mercer and Jim Clench.
like Zep’s Kashmir, yes 2 different time signatures. always loved this song
They are from Nova Scotia Canada ! But based themselves in Montreal !
They were awesome live with the 3 super nice guitar players !
Roller is the song you need to see them perform. They are diverse in their music and their radio hits, but they are a great Canadian band.
A fantastic live show back in the day, I love these guys.
Damn, this is why I love reaction channels, I forgot how great this song is! Be sure to explore this band, they have so many great hits that is song has been overshadowed. Great reaction
I stumbled across this band in the late 1970’s well into their careers. This whole album “Harder Faster” is really quite good along with the proceeding album “First Glance “ and the later one “Nature of the Beast”
They came with a 3 guitar attack
Myles Goodwyn lead vocals/ guitar
Brian Greenway guitar/ lead vocals
Gary Moffit guitar
Steve Lang bass
Jerry Mercer drums - Jerry’s drumming was always so good, I always dug the sound of his toms on his fills.
The Best of the Best....April Wine....thank you
Canadian royalty. This was the song at 11 that got me into them. I’m 37 now
Saw them open up for Rush in late 70’s. Very solid band live.
Just to add, April Wine were the kings of 70's and 80's Arena Rock here in Canada...!!!! Amazing band live...!!!
April Wine are so overlooked, amazing catalogue. "Roller" , "Weeping Widow" or the classic "I Like to Rock".
Oh and "Oowatanite" or "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" or "You Could Have Been a Lady" or "Rock & Roll is a Vicious Game" or "Drop Your Guns".......
You get the picture guys
'weeping widow' !!! great rock tune!
WOW. Never heard this before. LOVED IT. So groovy. Happy feels
This band should've been massive! Such a deep well of amazing albums and songs that has gone on for 40+ years.
Underrated band. Lots of great material. Also, ELVIS COSTELLO, WATCHING THE DETECTIVES, TRUST ME!
1969 to present. This Album, Harder Faster , 1979 is great. 3 guitar's, all taking turns at rhythm, fills n leads. No keyboards in this track. With 16 studio albums, multiple greatest hits and live recordings, theirs is a deep catalog to choose from. Their biggest international success years are 1978 to 1983. Myles Goodwyn 1948-2023, RIP.
More April Wine!
Yes!
...saw them in '76...had all thier albums...they're a true canadian legend..
Great Canadian rock band, lead singer, guitarist Myles goodwyn passed away last month, great reaction gentlemen, peace and love from Atlantic canada, where AprilWine started from in Nova Scotia
That was super , I would like to hear more please.
First concert April wine. 1973. Wichita falls. Tx.
54 and still gives me shivers
My very 1st concert. Awesome band
"I LIKE TO ROCK", "ROLLER" AND "ALL OVER TOWN" are their best...!
(I like to rock video is in the same studio as RusH videos, I believe The Police do a video there as well)
I can't believe you guys are doing this song! Time signatures being mixed you picked up on that. I think it's 6/8 over 4/4. If you haven't already "I Like To Rock" is a must by them.
April Wine was very big in Texas in the late 70s and the 80s. I moved to Atlanta in 90 and called the Rock station to request them. He said AW wasn't on their playlist, and even more he had never heard of them! And he wasn't a kid. It was their album rock station. I still think that was weird. Apparently AW just wasn't as big throughout the whole country as they were in TX. And they are Canadian, which I'm sure others have told you by now.
I remember April Wine opening the Texxas Jam back in 1980... Great set, and yes, Texxas Jam was intentionally spelled that way... 😁
That's cool that you guys licked up on the time signature being different for the keys/guitar riff (6/4)
I've never heard this, I love it!!
Heard them down here in Northern Michigan and that song sounded Great live!
I'm old enough to remember when their covers of Bad Side of the Moon, and You Could Have Been a Lady were hits on the radio. And they had the cojones to take on 21st Century Schizoid Man.
Also old enough to have see them live with Heart as their opening act.
Watch the in studio version of I Like To Rock recorded at Le Studio in Morin Heights.
Some of my other faves, Oowatanite, Tonight is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love, Lady Run Lady Hide, and Like a Lover, Like a Song.
Here's another one of their very big hits to give a listen, if interested. April Wine - Just Between You and Me" (by the channel: April Wine) --This song is a single from their ninth studio album and the song was a top #25 hit here in the US it peaked at #21. Wonderful Canadian band lots of beautiful tunes to explore. Thanks for sharing.
These guys never ever got the love and respect they deserved.
RIP Miles Goodwin , we miss you
Wrong. They were huge in Canada. They are still playec on the radio here.
@@davidedwards3838
OK , yes big in Canada , I guess I should have stated that out side of Canada , they , like many other great Canadian bands , did not get the love they deserve.
Sorry I had to spell that out for you
@michellefranco5648 There is nothing to spell our. They are canadian. They got the love they deserve. Making it in the us isn't the end all and be all. It's more money, yes. But in the grand scheme of things. Who cares if American didn't know who they were.
Smooth every time.
Do the video for Roller ... You'll see how awesome the band is.
Come on guys! You know if it's a rockin band. There from Canada 😂 Montreal Canada. Good job guys great tune ❤😂🇨🇦
Great review. Love this band. Please play "I like to rock".. pure fire
R.I.P. Myles - I grew up on this music.
You two are the bomb.
love this one
i saw these guys live here in Ontario. also, the drums and guitar/keys are in two different time signatures
This song is played at the end of the movie "Stuber"
Love it! One of my favorite April Wine tunes. BUT...there are ***no keyboards*** used on this song, its all done with guitars. It least that is my understanding. Here is the list of musicians who played on the album 'Harder...Faster.' Myles Goodwyn - vocals, guitars, Brian Greenway - vocals, guitars, Gary Moffet - guitars, background vocals, Steve Lang - bass, background vocals & Jerry Mercer - drums.
They are my fellow Canadians! We have many AMAZING bands from this beautiful country! Canada ROCKS! 🤘🏻🇨🇦🤘🏻
I'm not a Canuk, but I agree!
The same band that did “Oowatanite”. You reacted to that , and liked it too. Really hope to see you check out the official video for April Wine “Roller”.
Ha ha ha! Sounds like the dogs liked it too!
😂
They're originally from Halifax NS - Waverly I believe for Myles? About two bus stops up the road from where I lived.
Very tight band with a lot of great hooks. Saw them in a high school in the 70s. 🙏🎶
East coast Maritime Canadian rock
Great Canadian group!
Very underrated rockband, lots of gems to react to
The "Harder Faster" album is 🔥🔥
Canada!
This tune had some cool time signatures .
I believe the sounds you hear other than bass and drums are all guitar
These guys rocked the Montreal Forum .
Really good band. You know how you guys dig the 150 mph jam? Listen to April Wine studio of the song Roller!
One of Canadas greatest!! Love them. Roller is another gem. Greetings from🇩🇪
A lot of music reacters out there in youtube land but you guys are without a doubt the best.
Halifax, Nova Scotia! You dudes gotta do Get Ready for Love (studio). Rock on...
Summertime cruising music
Nice guy's!😊🇨🇦
Another example for me that except for Rush, I know little to none of Canadian rock music. 🔥
Hmm strange, I listened to this cd last night. And yes, this song is very infectious. Another great rockin' band from the 70's !
A great Canadian group...Try Roller, I Like To Rock, Sign of the Gypsy Queen and a dozen others...
Listen to all songs on 1st LP....Harder Faster!!!! awesome....song I Like To Rock!
Did a deep dive on April Wine after Myles died last month and this song kept coming to the top of mind. Must be the crazy time signatures that make it so addictive.
This drummer Jerry Mercer was an influence on the professor, Neil Peart.
A lot of great music from these guys to choose from
