So sad that Myles Goodwyn has passed. Absolutely amazing talent!! As great as this band is, they were highly under-rated around the world. Even in Canada, they were not recognized for the absolutely amazing talent until well into their careers. Personally, I believe this band ranks in the top 5 to ever come out of Canada!
Canadian here, SO HAPPY when you highlight our talent! This was a TOP BAND in Canada 🇨🇦 out of the East coast. Other great Canadian bands out of the 70’s are “Chilliwack ” “Trooper”, “Stampeders”, “Matt Minglewood Band” (Can’t you see), “One Horse Blue (Cry-out for the sun), and so many more that played regularly across the country so we saw them many times! Cheers 🇨🇦
I am 63 years old and these boys were a huge part of my childhood I now realize how lucky I was to live thru the 70's so many awesome bands here in Canada like BTO, Rush, and on and on plus all the deadly bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath it was an incredible time to be alive when things were cheap no lie the first Mcdonald's I went to it was 1978 and you could get 2 Big macs a large fries and large drink for under $5 it was heaven 🙂
Great Canadian rock band. They had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's. Some of my favorites are “Sign Of The Gypsy Queen”, “You Could Have Been A Lady”, Just Between You & Me”, “Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love”, "Roller", "Before The Dawn" etc.
The prominent bell is the actual fire alarm bell from the industrial building the recording studio was in. They stole it for the recording and then kept it for touring. That's Rock & Roll, Canadian style.
Although they are known as a rock band, my favourite song is a slow love song. "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love". It's beautiful with great lyrics. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The cowbell is actually an old school fire alarm bell they saw in the hallway of the studio and had the idea to record tapping on it and integrated it into the song.
Thanks Harri for reacting to the intoxicating April Wine. If anyone is interested, I uploaded to my channel a recent live performance I recorded of lead singer Miles Goodwin singing the April Wine hit 'Sign of the Gypsy Queen'. At age 74 Miles still has that powerful voice - and the guitar skills. He and his friends put on a great show.
Hello from Idaho. Saw April Wine twice when I was in high school. Another time later. Being a teenage drummer, thought Jerry Mercer was a beast. Especially his solo. One handed roll on the snare. Amazing.
My favorite song from my favorite Canadian band. Was going to request this in July for Canada Day. First concert I saw, Streetheart opened for April Wine. They chose the name April Wine because they liked the way it sounded.
Fantastic underated band. Many many songs... Fast Train, Crash and Burn, Comin' Right down on Top Of Me, On Fire For You and Weeping Widow, just to mention a couple.
They started every concert with this song, so you knew you had to get out of the beer stand lineup and get to your seats when you heard the cow bells 🤣😂
The band started in 1969 and from 1971 they have had 2O albums . over the years some members left or retired but the singer and guitarist are still active. The long time drummer for them retired a few years ago and lives in a small town about 45 kilometers outside of my hometown in Canada. He showed up a few times to an open mic night at a local tavern and sat behind the drums for a few songs.
Glad you love it Harri, the singer on this song is the band's bassist Jim Clench. He's not the main singer - that's usually Myles Goodwyn. Other songs to try are "Roller", "I Like To Rock", "R & R is A Vicious Game" and many more.
Great band. Saw them live 3 times in the 70's when they were at their peak. Fantastic live band! The were huge in Canada then and sold a lot of records!
Everybody always mentions that April Wine started started in Nova Scotia. That's true, but they were based in Montreal during the period when they had their most fame and greatest number of hits. So, I've always considered them a Montreal band.
Finally someone does this song. I love this song. That bell sound always makes me think that a train is approaching. "I Like to Rock" is great and you being British, has a guessing game at the end. "Roller" is a major kickass song. Both were big hits
Thank you for featuring a Canadian gem. April Wine has a lot of great songs. Rock and Roll is a Vicious Game, You Could Have Been a Lady, YOu Won't DAnce With Me, Tonite is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love, Sign of the Gypsy Queen, I'm on Fire For You... and on and on go the awesome songs.
Oh yeah! Some April Wine in May! Although I'd take April Wine anytime of the year...lol! A little hard rock band from Nova Scotia, damn you Canadians can rock! Very nice reaction Sultan!
My favorite song from them. They really contributed to the soundtrack of my teens. I've seen them 3 or 4 times, in bars mostly, nice and intimate venues where you are up close and personal, at their height of fame and later. Great band live. One of Canada's greatest
Harri these guys probably 20 very solid tracks from hard rockers to sweet and lively ballads. 3 guitar players that could crank it up really well. I love a lot of their older hidden tracks, The Band Has Just Begun is great.
Though I despised their later hits that I found rather vapid and shallow but really put them on the map (Roller, I Like to Rock and that kind of stuff), I thought some of their earlier music was brilliant. Songs like Lady Run Lady Hide, You Could Have Been a Lady, Drop Your Guns, I Wouldn't Want to Lose Your Love, Weeping Widow, Oowatanite, Tonite Is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love and Like a Lover Like a Song were truly excellent in my view. I also think Myles Goodwyn's voice was cool and unique and that Gary Moffet was a totally underrated guitarist.
Just an add, you asked about their name. Their original name was Apple Jack, but another band had the same name. They chose the name April Wine just because they thought it sounded good.

He’s right about being young when this came out, I was 14 and have been listening to it and most April Wine ever since!! 👍🏻😃🍷
don't forget Triumph and Rush
@@whodat3700 geez!! How could I have forgotten RUSH and TRIUMPH!! Thank you 🇨🇦
Yep, go to the Canada Day event at the local park, and there would often be an absolutely amazing band playing.

Great Canadian band that has a variety of different styles from hard rock, pop and ballads. Lots of great songs to choose from

Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
or "You won't Dance with me"
@@robertsonsid Absolutely beautiful with great harmonies. 👍✌️🇨🇦
Cum Hear The Band is another one of my favorite slow songs of theirs
In high school, we used to hit the fire alarm bell in the hallway with a pen ... and perfectly emulate that intro. Really .. that's what we did. LOL
The cowbell is actually an old school fire alarm bell they saw in the hallway of the studio and had the idea to record tapping on it and integrated it into the song.
Roller is a song worth reacting too, you wont regret it...this band had a 3 guitar attack and had serious talent all the way through the lineup
Drop Your Guns is another great April Wine song that needs mentioning.
Bad Side of the Moon too !

Every concert you go to of theirs, they start with this song
Thanks again for more April Wine! I see there is more on the channel. Going to check them all out.
That fire alarm bell gets me every time.

I knew it wasn’t Myles singing but didn’t know who. Thanks for letting me know.
One of my favourite bands of all time. We got so many amazing bands in Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

I saw them live in the early 70’s. I can’t remember if it was in Kamloops or Vernon. Hitch hiked both ways from Sicamous. Great band, great music
Nice reaction to a very solid Canadian band.
April Wine used to play at my highschool dances, a very long time ago. They were great.
I've always thought April Wine was one of the best ever 'hard rock' bands.

They played at a high-school dance, I attended, when they were based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Almost 20 studio albums, 3 or 4 live, best rock band ever out of Canada. More please. Check out Roller, official music video.
KDkitchen . That is such a Canadian name.
This song has strong Kinks vibes

Any chance he's reminding you of the singer from the band Nazareth?
Lighthouse, please.

You should listen to "You Could Have Been A Lady " .
Checkout Roller and Gypsy Queen
liked them when i was 12 then discovered the stones
