Steve smith is the only wr coverage i need in my world. Rome odunze is that guy.
Yeah, wanting him to fall to 7 to my Titans but I’m starting to feel like he won’t be available now
@@tennesseet7388that's where I want him to go too
@@tennesseet7388odunze most likely will fall to 7… unless the chargers take nabers and giants take odunze but I doubt that happens tbh. I think nabers is a lot better than odunze
Odunze will be decent in the NFL but he’ll be an underachiever
@@97ejohnsonwhy hate? Nabers and odunze both nice
Man I love how Steve is transparent. Not disrespectful but proper critique of these players.
How is Steve not a wr coach in the Nfl? A legit pro at the position. One of my favorite football players of all time. He always came for war on sundays.
He rather be independent. The pats should hire him as a draft consultant
You can't teach Heart, and that was always Steve Smith's best trait. He didn't have good fundamentals or anything, he just wanted it more. Great Guy and Great Player, but not what you want as a Coach. The types you want for coaches are the Wayne Chrebet/Jerry Rice/Wes Welker types. The Guys that succeeded because they did all the little things rather than on pure willpower and physical ability like Steve Smith.
Maybe he doesn’t want to be one? He probably makes more money doing this
NFLN pays well?
Not all football greats are good at coaches.
Troy Franklin is the guy Steve was talkin about looked like it was his first day running routes?
Must be
Yea i think so too
That's how he looked... Sooooo
That was my first thought haha
Yes, bro was all over the place I was befuddled
Once Steve pronounces Odunze correctly, he’ll be 100% right 😂
The odb shirt valid
Shame on you when you step through to. . .
Steve a genius 💪🏽🔥 y'all put some respect on 89
The best wr content, Steve smith rocks
Steve Repping the ODB. I love it
Nabers-Thomas is like DK-AJ at Ole Miss
NASTY WIDE OUTS N.W.O 🔥
Perfect comparison!
Cedric Tilman and Jaylin Hyatt
Thomas 👎🏼
Great conversation.
Xavier Legette is going to be a steal for whoever drafts him. He’s a hardworking young guy! He has abilities that you can’t teach and weaknesses that you can improve through proper instruction.
shhh
I hope the Jaguars draft him. I think he's going to be a gr8 player. He's big & fast plus can play special teams
Rome is that dude. He'll be a leader wherever he goes.
Wes Welker had his breakout in Miami though before going to NE, thats why it cost NE a 2nd and 7th round Pick to get him. He succeeded in 2006 with Joey Harrington being his Primary QB. The numbers aren't Eye Popping, but Welker was everywhere on the field that year and finding ways to make clutch plays. His name was in the play by play a lot on 3rd downs. Thats why Belichick got him, the dolphins had Chris Chambers and the last legs of Marty Booker so they didnt want to pay Welker.
Kinda weird, but Roddy White also had his breakout season in 2007 with Joey Harrington as his QB.
Look at Joey out there, making careers.
Agent 89 got it right on Zay Flowers last year.
89. I know it was a typo but I can’t have you go out like that
Zay flowers wasn’t that hard to predict. We all knew he was gunna be good
@@kenneyp.9456that’s a lie
@@kenneyp.9456still cant believe the chargers took quentin🤣
Actually he would've gotten it wrong if Tank Dell didn't get hurt
Not even 30 seconds in and Steve caught a stray😂
Steve Smith love this brother. This brother was so nice as a WR. Something about his character is awesome.
He's the NFL's Allen Iverson.
“Accessories”
That’s how I feel about the combine. When I played college football, I saw a lot of really good players get benched or told they weren’t gonna play just because of a 40 time. Despite the fact they were better than the player in front of them. It boggles my mind, especially going up playing basketball where skill (technique) is the emphasis.
Some unfair bullshit
I appreciate Steve Smith/agent 89..as a long time coach..He is my favorite about both his explanation of the game and fundamental analysis of the position. As a former Coach was allowed to witness his passion and IQ since high school... Enjoy his work.God Bless ..Coach Mays😂
First wr he talking about that disappointed him has to be Troy Franklin. He looked rough out there on the gauntlet and opted out of the bowl game
Steve Smith is easily one of my favorites to watch during draft season
Steve was an animal in the league dude broke his arm playing the game that he loved that’s dedication!!!!
Scored a TD on that play too.
I love all this analysis by Steve Smith. So knowledgeable and been there, done it.. owns the pro bowl jersey!!
Steve, you are the best in the biz...
Thanks Steve, us fantasy football guys rely on you. Tank and zay hit last year. Your calls work for me lol
Facts lol
Idk I really love Brenden Rice , super slept on. If he goes to the right team he will be a monster mark my words.
Could say that about everyone
Yea I like rice as well his awareness while in route of what is going on with the qb and changing the route is amazing
facts
Facts I like him and Jalen Coker for the Steelers 😮
Totally digging the Ol Dirty Bastard shirt😂🤣😂
Love your guys's work.
Just a heads up, the intro is waaaay louder than the rest of the video, something I'm sure you've noticed. I get that you might be having to lower the volume because its peaking in areas. There might be some work arounds with a compressor in post production for the mic thats peaking.
20:23 - I just subscribed off the “aight” vs. “alright” comment. Love the commentary that is all facts - no feelings. Keeping it 💯 is very important.
STEVE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS STRAIGHT NO CHASER AND THAT YOU GOTTA RESPECT .
Film trumps a combine workout anyday
Ong, combines are mostly there for medicals and interviews
Yup combine is just a spandex Olympics bs … I feel like they should be wearing full pads as well also 40 line up in your position stance and then run it
Ladd was balling out there too
Will be a bum
@@yahcrackyou don’t know football
Bro is gonna be cooler kupp 2.0 Ladd is gonna be elite in the NFL
Hopefully Chicago
The best evaluater
Brotha Steve spiitin the real 💯 coaching his colleague
I liked what I saw from Ladd mcconkey and pearsall
Yo! Side eye steve smith is crazy!
Get this guy in the hall of fame already
What about my guy Ricky Pearsall? Really good athlete, elite change of direction, elite route runner, and an absolute dawg.
He was solid at the combine.
Give the Zay flowers of this years draft. Agent 89 knows this targets.
“Play in a bowl game? You’re out of your mind! I’m not subjecting myself to injury jeopardizing or negatively affecting my first NFL contract…”
(Fast forward a couple months to combine)
“Checkout these double back salto, handspring flips as our position group exits the field!!” Lol gymnastics is one of the most dangerous sporting activities in the world. And there’s a reason why they do those standing flips on a specialized surface.
Definitely talking bout Troy Franklin he was all over the place my girlfriend said he looks bad and she’s never watched the combine before 😂
Ladd had a great weekend. Hoping to hear more about him from ok you guys! I think he will be fine he best receiver available when the bills draft at #28
Can someone reply with a timestamp of when he talks about Keon Coleman or Ad Mitchell thank you
Steve, Rome doesn't look like he gets great separation in college, but he had a fantastic contested catch rate. How do you think this translates to the NFL? Hopkins seems like a good comp, how do you think that compares and do you see challenges to his game translating to the NFL with less separation than the other premium WRs in this draft?
Teams have to have approached Steve about scouting of coaching receivers. He’s excellent at it.
Steve Smith Sr da goat
How’d you think of Brian Thomas’s combine
What’s everyone think of Ricky pearsall from UF? I’m kind of a fan of his routes
Shout out to Tyree man 😂😂
What are your thoughts on Nabers and MHJ skipping the combine
Curious about specific players Steve liked and why...Ladd does not look elite on paper, but he is highly rated. Pearsall (Florida) seems to be the complete package on paper, but he is all over the place in WR class ratings.
Nabers is also a freak athlete.
How would we know? Mfer didn’t test, or even weigh in. Might show up on tape, but tape has lied before (Kayshon Boutte comes to mind)

What exactly was Coleman inconsistent with at the combine??
What timestamp does he talk about him because I came here looking for his eval on him and Ad Mitchell if you know too
Slowest 40 time. Fastest top speed in the gauntlet
Where did they find this guy at? Steve keeps correcting him everytime he makes a comment
There is one guy who is a deep prospect that i kept on my radar. And i liked what i saw at the combine. Do you guys any thoughts on jhaquan jackson out of tulane?
He’s my sleeper, he’s going to be a BEAST!!! Hoping my commanders can get him.
I like him too. Explosive and natural.
Steve is right. All those measurements can't gauge a player's desire, determination, technique, their feel for the ball in the air, and their willingness to listen to the veterans and get better. Speed isn't everything. Every top WR isn't a speed demon. Mike Evans, Nico Collins, DeAndre Hopkins, etc.
mike evans is a giant, deandre hopkins was a speed demon in college, nico collins route running has developed tremendously. but even he got some really great burst off the line and separation at the top of the route. like speed is important on this day is all i’m saying. these kids had 4 years to show their route running.
MICHAEL Thomas
lol dying on the mingo hill is not what i expected.
I had to say that I hated you for so long ( Bucs Fan )....but, only because you are so awesome. Now I can finally admit how great you are publicly :) Love your scouting eyes....you always seem right.
That Houston Oilers is 🔥🔥🔥
Odunze was trying to move up. Cant fool me😂
AMEN
Yes
Randy Moss and Tyreek Hill and Desean Jackson come to mind.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'll bet that guy was Troy Franklin. 3:45 Steve, what is your opinion of the Gauntlet drill. I agree Mitchell had a weak combine. Coleman had a fantastic gauntlet drill. How about the genius coach drafting 4.28 Tyquan Thorton?
I just wanna know what Steve Smith believes about Jamari Thrash.
Steve Smith the issue I had with Johnathan Mingo was his effort. I did not question his ability to play, I questioned his heart. Too many plays I saw him give no to very little effort on plays.
Need a breakdown on Devontez Walker
Mingo is going to suddenly get good next year. I think the screwdriver metaphor was great--I think the same applies to Bryce, to a lesser degree. Canales seems to recognize this.
STEVE what you think about Xavier Leggett from South Carolina = Deebo Samuel?
I hope the Jaguars draft him. 6'3 , 4.3 speed plus 230lbs. Gm need to figure out how to use him
We need time stamps coach!
yooo steve salute i love jamari thrash he’s one of the better route runners in the class but doesn’t get talked about
Super sleeper. Brenden Rice too
I 4:08 I Thought the same thing about Rice even though he did not say his name
Steve, beyond talent, what sets rookie players up for success day one?
Man the top 3 receivers look different this year, may have to make it a top 4 with AD at this point.
The Oilers hat is sweet
Sooooo we just not gonna talk about how Keon Coleman ran a 4.62 but was a demon in the gauntlet? Steve cmon dawg! We gotta at least address how the gauntlet is/isn't a better metric vs the 40.
Bo Nix & Troy Franklin both struggled at the combine. RB Bucky Irving had one of the slowest 40yd dash times. He was more quicker than than he was fast as a smaller back.
I thought it was just me who thought the receivers really failed the quarterbacks who chose to throw. Especially on the deep ball drill. The top guys did not run routes well at all. I was also surprised by that
man.. he needs a new co host smh
Definitely
Nah, dude does a good job of prompting Smith without talking too much. He knows his role is to set the table for Steve and that people aren't here to listen to him. Most people aren't capable of accepting the Robin role like that.
the reason the young kids are so focused on speed because that’s what teams want. the field is stretching and whoever fastest wins.
second, route running is not that stressed in college. you know that agent 89. route running can be coached. speed? controlled speed. thats what teams want.
I think he’s talking about the tall receiver from Florida State could’ve been another guy that was really tall I noticed it too
The guy from Texas that transferred from Georgia
Adonai Mitchell
Troy Franklin.
Steve smith stated the facts about the wrs 😂
We knew Worthy was going to be fast before the combine. It’s neat that he prove the record, weeeee! But it’ doesn’t move the needle much because that was already considered his strength
Didn't he also come in lighter than he plays at? Probably more of a 4.27 guy when he has to gain his weight back still flying though
Did malachi corley attend the combine?
One of the first people he mentioned. He said inconsistent
Steve, I’d love to hear you talk about Rome’s difficulties getting separation in college. He has strong hands and high points the ball but against MW talent he didn’t get much separation. Do you think that will affect him in the NFL?
Edit: PAC-12 not MW
What's MW talent?
All Rome does is get separation😂 he dominated this year doing just that
@oomshaka6683 mountain west
@@nwk101 except against real competition like Michigan that plays an NFL type defense with better talent. But sure yeah he totally “dominated” against the MW and PAC-12. Except he doesn’t break tackles and he’s not juking anybody doing so. He just wins at the high point then gets tackled. So dominate I guess.
@@trentonprahl7846 I’m sorry dude but did you even watch the Michigan game or just look at the box score? Pennix missed Odunze on a couple of throws and even one on a walk-in touchdown. Also, when does “dominating” include having to juke people and break a bunch of tackles after the catch? Marvin Harrison known weakness to his game is his ability after the catch, but he still dominated. Was Odunze’s 92 catches and 1600+ yards and 14 TDs not enough for you lmaoo?? Rome may not be flashy but he’s for damn sure smooth and can win at all 3 levels of the field. And my friend.. that is a fact!
Need a Javon Baker video. So far like his tape
Who was the guy Steve was talking about?🤔
Keon Coleman 🤔
Troy Franklin is my guess. Dude was slipping and sliding on all his routes
I was coming to ask the same thing
@@cwg2017yep; he looked rattled after running a disappointing 40 time to what was expected out of him
@@dvedwards1719no he looked good he talking about Troy
He talking about Keon Coleman 4:00-6:00 LMAOO
Absolutely not. Keon had a great gauntlet drill and he showed his athleticism and game speed in other drills. His 40 was just slow. He’s definitely talking about Troy Franklin. Dude literally looked like he just started playing football that same day.
John Ross ran a 4.22 in 2017 at the combine. Hopefully Xavier can have a better career after running the fastest 40
Facts
Seriously the 40 is just one measure and it's not even the best measurement.
Stop and go and stop and go and turn and come back. So the best measurement should be the cone drills. See who can zig through the cones back and forth then a dash at the end would be a good measurement.
21:59 i absolutely thought and still think chase claypool should be a TE. i changed him to a tightend on my madden franchise and he is a dawg! teams just have to know how to use personnel. claypool can be a beast TE in the league.
Good video 🫡🔥🔥
He Hit on Kupp! But that’s about it, let’s be real he gives nice evaluations but say’s the same thing about every player in different ways, Unless Mingo works out, Jeudy just got extended soooo???
I wonder if Steve Smith will think the WR's will be more crispness when they run on their pro day when things are more planned??? Combine is not planned at all so that could explain the non - crispness routes.
Rome odunze is the best reciver in this draft and is amazing at the back shoulder fade. Rome will have the best carrer out of the group
Ppl get caught up with 40 times instead of watching college ball. That's how the Diggs, Puka's, Kupp's, Amon-ra St. Brown's, slip to the later rounds & become gems. They were already good before they arrived. Idc how fast a player is w/o pads. Watch more cfb.
The only thing I would say Steve talks about going to the right team these players can't control wat team drafts them and wat system they run......
I wish the Raiders would sign you to help our WR corps and the drafting process of our WR corps...
The entire time he was talking about receivers getting drafted too high because of their 40 Time, I kept thinking Darrius Heywood-Bey and his 4.3 time the Raiders fell in love with.
I think the shuttle is at least more useful than the 40 and it makes sense for someone like Edelman because there was no tape on him as a WR. For the high end guys i have no idea why people care about the combine when there are 30 games of tape
Because most of those games are against subpar competition, and nobody has the same situation. The Combine provides standardized testing where you can directly compare results in the same situations. Every player is in a different situation in terms of the team around them in College. So if you want to compare directly, you run them all through the same tests. This allows them to compare your physical attributes directly. Common Denominators are important.
Robert Gallery looked great in College, so good the Raiders took him 2nd Overall. He only hit the 225 for 24 Reps at the Combine though and some questions arose. He then became an epic bust as he was overpowered by NFL level competition. The Combine exposed him. Jamarcus Russell and Vince Young had combine issues that forecast their eventual downfalls. Matt Leinart had a mediocre combine that led to his mediocre career....
