Janet is spot on.... Education is only meaningful when is is rationalised investments in building stocks of human capital..... cf.. "investing in people" by George Schutz, Nobel Prize winner in economics, 1982
And yet leaders - President, Senators, Governors, MPs, MCAs, government officials, local leaders etc have been silent about Education woes in Kenya!!!! What's the point of promising jobs including abroad ones when you can't ensure good education for all??????
Basically most of the average placed students in the outcomes could easily be at the tops given right conditions....(Private institution have heavily invested in education infrastructure hence better outcomes,
When it comes to school structures we need to come up with a specific structure and replicate it in all schools across the country. The structures should be quality
Our children should be taught from the word go that in everything you do is a competition and perfection. Sitting in classroom is not a measure how a child is clever or not but this is determined by circumstances or the environment. So even the Ds' and Es' learners can still do well in skills or talent they have which needs to be perfected by parents.
I have to commend this guest. She knows stuff educations. While every other commentate lauds this CBC, I have very serious doubts. I have children in both systems and why any sane person sought to disrupt 844 which has worked instead of adjusting it at a lower cost, makes me very very angry. She has raised the pertinent questions, how and why do we suddenly demonize standardized examinations when we do not have anything better?
KCPE exams evaluate level of learning at class eight, quality of teachers, quality of curriculum and teaching materials. The data from the results indicate over 50% of Public schools did not pass and the celebrations is about private schools success. Over 60% of children in public schools cannot read or do simple maths at class four. Serious Reflections required. Thanks Janet's fir highlights
KCSE was not giving a standard program depending on the learner location putting some learners at a disadvantage ... But we still got learners from difficult background passing well and ending up in good careers .... CBC will include working with what's available in your environment to determine your career path , that means no one from poor difficult back grounds will have a chance to do certain careers , careers will be determined by social class
Janet is very conversant education matters very passionate about it most especially basic education why dont such people spearhead MOE? Machogu is just clueless he has massacred what Matiangi and Maghoha put together 😢😢😢
You mean besides the oil scandal, the governors not receiving El-Nino funds, and the alleged 15 billion bribe given to the CS for roads, grants fro education have also not been sent to schools? Wooooiiiii!!! The system appears to be breaking down. Never mind that many parents will not be able to take their kids to school in January. Education is a universal right even under the UN Charter. As for the exam performance measure, it has been an issue since time memorial. In yester years schools like Makini would have its weak students still getting higher marks compared to those in other schools regardless of their being private or public. Still these students would perform badly in High School for instance, you would find a kid who scored 540 out of 700 proceeding to a good public school like Mang'u at the time, and would still be the poorest performer acedemically. CBC may still not address this issue since we have exam cheating, taechers marking exams complaining of working conditions, which raises concern as to how effective and reliable the process is. So the issue of effectively measuring learners is still in need of sector-wide reforms.

There have always been some mismanagement in the education sector ever since 8- 4-4 system was introduced in 1985. It is only when President kibaki came to office in 2003 that education system was beginning to be reformed.
There is a problem when every conversation has political undertones. When are we going to reflect objectively with a view to holistic improvement in this country when conversations are often if not always coated with the speaker’s political inclinations? Education sector needs MASSIVE sector-wide reform. Primary school level needs a whole-of-society approach to lift standards and bridge inequalities between public and private primary schools - and it can be done just like inequality at high school is minimal.
How is Equitable education going to be possible in Kenya with this kind of results after spending 30% of our national budget towards education of our children in public schools
Oh, the buck stops with the president. Lack of goodwill on his part especially as he thinks every project must fill his pocket is an important problem. His subjects follow suit.😢
What is wrong with the number 1 pupil aspiring to go to Mangu? For goodness sake, this is a Kenyan not a private citizen. I imagine he would have studied in public primary school if they were as good as the high schools that private academies later fight for their pupils to be admitted to. Let us castigate private schools kids as if they are responsible for the performance of public school ones.
There is nothing wrong the issue isn't about him what is being highlighted is the GoK failure to put public primary school structure so that competition can be at least equal
@@wycliffelevigan6702 I understood the gist of the conversation very well but find I it in bad taste to specifically mention any student. There was reference to number 1 pupil wanting to go to Mang’u and that is what I am referring to. No child should be made to feel like they do not have the right to choose a certain school presumably because they schooled in private primary school
@@Joysalamu and that is the gist of it they have the choice others don't have the choice he could have said light international school,KiSC,Brookhurts etc. but that where the government is failing big time

always such a joy to watch knowledgeable Janet. Greetings from norway
I pray govt opens a sports, arts and gifted academy in every county. Let children explore talents early. Sports, music and acting pays

We also need a software accessible to parents, teachers and students managed by the government where all exams can be administered and graded

Saudi Arabia education is free from nursery to university n u also get paid , a responsible government will always take care of its pple

CBC is worse. What new investments has the government put in rural and remote schools.Yet CBC needs more input in terms of materials
