Just when I thought nothing in Kenya could shock me, shock on me. It is not even the amount that was stolen that shocks me, it is that the heist was not even covered up cleverly. Like just a smash-and-grab job, with evidence being left lying in plain sight, so that a guy with internet can download zip files, save them and present them on "live TV". That's shocking. The SGR contracts with China total about 5 billion dollars. An amount that the Trade and Investment Bank could have lent to Kenya in one month like they did in 2019 February according to Jimmy Wanjigi. So why did Kenya need to bortow from China? No wonder Tanzania built their railways without external borrowing. After all Kenya paid more than the Chinese paid for 90 percent of the cost of the SGR. That means we have paid for 2 SGRs. This indeed is a damn crime scene. Warudishe pesa za Wakenya. Pap! Spice FM please bring an accountant to do the calculations simultenously and show the panel to avoid confusion.

To my understanding we owed china about 500 billion KES for the construction of the sgr. Kenya was supposed to raise 10% of that amount around 50 billion KES to kick start the project. The treasury raised 640 billion KES instead..paid the 50 billion KES and the rest of the money disappeared.Basically Kenya didn't have to borrow money from china in the first place since it could finance itself. Also 600 billion was stolen from the treasury while Kenya is still been asked to payback the 500 billion SGR loan. Yani in short Uhuruto stole 600 billion from the treasury in the guise of SGR financing.

Wanjigi is very clear in the maths.
His emphasis is on the inflated amount of the self raising fund from ksh47.5 billion to ksh 644 billion.
According to auditor general report the total contribution from the self raising fund is ksh 644 billion instead of ksh 47.5 billion.
Note:47.5billion is 10% of the total SGR cost which is ksh 475 billion.Thats the amount that kenya was to contribute then EXIM bank was to contribute the remainder 90%.
So his point is,according to the agreement treasury should have paid ksh 47.5 billion but they paid ksh 644 billion instead
The question to govt is why did they pay more and why was the huge extra amount not accounted.
Payments were done in installments according to stages of the project so he is referring to the total payments by the end of the project according to the financial statements.

The problem in kenya people talk or give a leak of how money is siphoned in our country. But nothing happens.. In USA, anything on TV is acted upon immediately and followed!kenyans need to go to state house and demand Ruto and Rigathi to go home and have Jimmy as the president and me as the DP if we want better kenya!

I work and live here, take my words, that corruption u know in the USA doesn't affect my daily life.Lastly, USA is 52 countries or states but with manageable lifestyle!Hope u open your inner eyes otherwise your sentiments will make no sense.

Important issues raised. Granted. But I think the math is not mathing.
10% of 4.7bn$ is 470mn$, not 47mn$. But since the approx 5bn$ was 90% as claimed, then GOK was supposed to pay 555mn$.
I understand the need for accountability, but let's get the figures right as we debate these important issues.

Methinks it is hard for people to attack the cause of this infection because it suggests bringing Uhuru Kenyatta and his cohorts to an interrogation panel. Which is not something anyone knows how to approach. They are the ones who laundered this money. In Korea, a former president is now in jail for this kind of thing.

Here is the tragedy that is Kenya. We here know that Jimmy is telling the truth. But because we are the middle class or the elite class, we will just keep silent about it and forget all about it because we are the middle class, we "can take care of ourselves". On the other hand, the mama mboga and the jua kali guy have no idea what this is all about or they don't understand an iota of what JW is saying or may be they will never hear about it.
So, those who can interrogate the issues and know who is to blame will sit quiet, nonchalantly in their corners and go about their lives, while those who cant/won't interrogate the issues will not know any better or will just resign to "fate". This is how the same leaders who milk us dry will be voted in again come 2027 and our beloved country Kenya remains the same, unchanged. What a tragedy!
