The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The way Eddie smiled throughout singing is priceless ❤
Yess..That Part☺
YES, BUT, DO IT THAT TAKE REAL TALENT???!!!
@@lamekwilliam9389 What????
Can you believe that when they started, he would not smile or sing with eyes open and Paul stayed on him 🤣🤣 but Eddie had dental work done and didn’t want anyone to see at the time
Eddie is the bomb.
Paul Williams an under appreciated temptation. He had a fabulous voice and all the moves. Gone too soon.
Where’s David
My favourite Nancy-their choreographer too though i suspect Melvin didn't need much teaching. Love Paul 🙏❤️
For Once In My Life--classic
at 1:40, Paul would definitely had reeled me in. So forceful.
I have The Emperors of Soul DVD collection and it includes a lot of the early songs where Paul sang lead. He was incredible!
Eddie Kendrick the best who ever did it. So effortless from note to note. Knows when to go high, and when to go low but never over sing or drown out the back round singers. One of a kind. Truly blessed.
Damon was, you old folks don’t know how to give young guns credit. Damon had a much more powerful singing voice.
The great David ruffin would of been drowning this song like syrup on pancake's..😁
@@katinawhitley9340 I was just thinking the same thing. No disrespect 2 Eddie, but if David Ruffin wasn't kicked out of the Temptations during this time, he would've slayed this song🔥
my vote is for eddie
dude was loaded with talent
Eddie Kendricks & Phillip Bailey have the most beautiful falsetto voices I’ve ever heard.. and they make it look so easy.
You can add El Debarge to the list
Don't forget Smokey Robinson.
EDDIE AN RON BANKS , YOU CAN KEEP ALL THE REST
Yes they do and so has Ron BANKS
@@AngeBiampandoudon’t forget his brother Bobby!
There is something so masculine about Eddie Kendricks' falsetto. It's so attractive to me. I'm in a trance when he sings. Yes! I love him! 🥰😊
No.. he doesn’t scream weak in any form… nothing but masculinity…. It’s just something about a slender guy that is attractive…. No buff dudes are needed…
Eddie was a songwriter as well.....
@shericebperspective
I know what you mean. Eddie has been in my heart and head for years. ❤
No one had the falsetto control and effortless soul of Eddie then…or now. He set the standard for all men singing in that register.
Damon sang this 10x’s better ya tool.
Then came Tevin Campbell
@@LumerasLight1201 Yes. Tevin is a treasure.
@@dragonknightofamiraka3636 Damon's excellent, but not better than Eddie.
Eddie a tenor not a falsetto
Eddie's falsetto is mesmerizing, and Melvin's subtle bass riffs in harmony are perfect.
Listen how they voices ring, when they sing " make you love me" on this song. Pure Harmony.
There isn't much I enjoy more than looking at Eddie's handsome face while listening to his sweet voice singing those romantic lyrics. Gives me goose bumps.
Me too!
Something about the lyrics of this song is just really sensual.
Eddie Legendary Vocals Kendricks 🙌🏽
The Temptations have an aura about them that other groups just don't have. You want to hear them sing...you want to hear them talk...you want to watch them dance. The Temptations were must see TV back in the day. You just knew The Temps were different...they were something special, and you could feel it.
Nobody could sing like Eddie Hendricks! I could just sit and listen to him all day.
It is Kendrick (not Hendrick) and yes I agree with you Mr. Kendrick is special. As friends we can sit back and listen to him all day.
I know right ✅
Love this !!
True but David and Paul Williams being #3. They have of the greatest voices in one group. Paul is so underrated
@@nursemcfarlane6655 i love them all except for otis hating self. I watched it on tubi like 10 times last month
Eddie Kendricks was the master in falsetto. He sang so smooth and accurate and never missed a beat....that unique melodic sound just naturally flowed from him. I am so glad that he decided to share his gift with the world. Thank you Eddie. R.I.P.
The Temps were the best group that has eva sang on this planet. Eddies Falsetto stands out and is unmistakable and Paul 's soulful voice with Melvin Baas made them the best. Imagine 5 lead singers in one group This was recorded after David departed the group. Otis was the glue that kept them together. RIP Brothers. Dr. Doo Wop
Otis was too heavy handed, and he divided them in my opinion. Eddie was unhappy with how Otis treated David and Paul. Paul's suicide killed something in Eddie - he didn't have issues with Melvin, Dennis or Damon.
What other Motown group had as much turnover in its members?
I am 68 and everytime I hear the Temps and Motown I start to cry. It brings back such great memories of junior high school and high school, dancing in the girls bathroom at recess and lunch time, smoking Cool menthol cigarettes. Thinking we are all that. 😂 Growing up by the beach in Santa Monica during the summer listening to all these wonderful songs. I can't explain the feeling it just takes me back forever. They just don't make music like this anymore. Pure class, showmanship and style with voices no one else will ever be able to reach...Long live Motown.. 💗
Eddie was spellbinding! I couldn't take my eyes off of him. The man was great at what he did. R.I.P.
I totally agree he had a beautiful voice, his voice always moves me
How could you not love the Tempts, the greatest male vocal group of all times
Eddie was fine and had a beautiful voice. 😭
It's a song that will hook you on the first listen, by a band that will hook you for life. RIP Eddie Kendricks. Godspeed. "No one sings like you anymore."
Look at him sing. Eddie Kendricks was one of the most beautiful human beings of this time.
The wonderful Temptations with the great Eddie Kendricks in the lead.
Prime 1 subtle hand off of mic to Prime 2 is dynamic to anyone who ever watched the chemistry between those two soulful stars.
I was lucky enough to see Eddie Kendricks on stage, he looked my way and I almost fainted and his Beautiful Smile, I will never Ever Forget that, I was Native American Indian, young and long Black hair and very Cute, I think he liked my long black hair, it was really long, but all I know is he looked my way. He was so Handsome and Had Smile that could make you Melt and a Voice none other could Compare to. And Paul was just as Amazing with his Unique Voice, too! Temptations Forever 💓💓🎙🎙🇺🇲 Amazing Memory I'll never ever forget!!
Wow!! You are so lucky.. I wish I would of been there but I was little at the time. I wish I was born during the Temptations time.
Wow ☺️ Lucky you 😍💞✨‼️
Amazing story
Oh wow, he is and always will be my favorite. I had such a crush on him. And now when listen to and watch him sing, it just makes my heart happy. His smile and his eyes just drew you in. ❤️
Listening to Eddie is like a cool breeze softly touching my face. He was the best and I will always miss him 😢
Eddie’s adorable looks while he sings so amazing🤩🔥
King of FALSETTO, listen to the SOUL. RIP
After Eddie came on the scene all falsettos were patterned after him.
The delfonics will is a product of eddie on how he controls it too good
Y’all trippin hard and need to stop!
Damon Harris was the FALSETTO KING.
His version of this song is on youtube and it’s sung 1000xs stronger and more crisp.

The Classic Five were something else. Today in 2020 nothing even comes close on this level.
It's the classic 4 + Dennis.
fannycraddock99 😭😭😭
@@fannycraddock99 no he's right it's the classic five because Dennis Edwards was originally part of A group called The Contours. Now when he did joined the Temptations in (1968) They've gone from The Classic Five To The Psychedelic Five.
@JaySinger not really the reason why they nicknamed five men the classic five because of their classic hit songs people in the early 60's came to know and love.
Now in (1968) when Psychedelic Soul became So Popular The Time Of Ruffin's Departure And When Dennis Edwards Took The Stage The Classic Five Turned into The Psychedelic Five Because Of Dennis Edwards Voice And Wonderful Style Of Singing They Had Great Hits Like Cloud Nine, Runaway Child Running Wild, Psychedelic Shack, I Can't Get Next To You, Ball Of Confusion, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, And Just My Imagination, Being Eddie Kendrick Last Hit Song.
JaySinger no such thing. There’s only one classic 5ive lineup.
At 1:19, soulful Eddie Kendricks. My God Eddie could sing!
I've loved TheTempts since I was 13... I'm 68 & love them even more. Their harmonies & moves were always phenomenal !!!
Am 69 yo and still adore this fantastic group.
I love all 5 but I would close my eyes and pick Eddie. May they all rest in peace. I will never stop listening to the Temptations. They live forever❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
they are out of sight
There were imho, handsome , Devinere , well dressed men with a soulful sound and dance moves that were insane , harmonies that don't quit .. I'm 64 and still listing to these guys ❤
Yes you are right but the correct spelling is “debonair “ (manners, gentle not loud, and handsome)
I can see why Diana Ross was madly in love with Eddie, he had a beautiful smile and voice 😍
He’s soooo fine bruh 😭😭😍. That’s my babyyy
Greatest group ever! Nothing smoother than Eddie Kendricks … nothing.. unbelievable
It's Eddie Kendricks My friend and you are right he can't be duplicated. Blessings in his voice.
Eddie was so damn Handsome! 🥰
Whenever I hear them sing it puts a smile on my face
Eddie was effortless with it.
Sweet Eddie!! Gets no better!! Had it all, charisma, voice, looks.
Body
Paul gives me the shivers not even when hes singing but when he's talking
The 2 thumbs downers ought to stay away from any sort of music !
LOL
Umm hmm they need some taste in music if they don’t think the Temps are good!
Thank you
For real though
I don’t know why deaf people keep trying to listen to music
He made that seem effortless .. amazing. RIP
Love this and with the Supremes version. Tempts best group of vocalists in history.
I visited Eddie’s grave back in October 2020. Very iconic. We drove around the cemetery forever trying to find it because we didn’t want to go into the office. Covid was raging. We found it. Rest easy, Mr. Eddie James Kendrick.
That was very nice of you to visit his site. You must be a family or a big fan. How was the visit?
i hope you stood six feet away and wore your double mask
This Man Was Class. Can't Nobody Do It Like Eddie.
Til this day I still get goose bumps listening to Eddie. That tenor definitely fit him. The man had Class. Such a true Gentleman. R.I.P. Eddie.
Absolutely agree with you.
Me, too!!
Falsetto not tenor
I am still listening to this song, October 14, 2020. I wish I could go back into time in 1969 as I was in the 8th grade. I miss those days and friendships. Eddie Kendricks was my favorite Temptations. I could hit those high notes back then.
1 minute 19 seconds listen how high Eddie Kendricks voice goes its unreal 👍😀
Gave me chills!!!!
Love that many headed microphone stand! Never seen before, or since for that matter!
The great Mr. David Ruffin
They invented it...it was used often by them.
It's call a crab Mike. Four Mike's to a stand just like a crab. The Temptations used it a lot. Rather than four Mike stands and a lead stand. All those stands and wires got in the way of choreography. Thus the Crab microphone stand.
That Mike stand was invented by the great David Ruffin
So look up New Edition heartbreak tour live in philly when they perform is this the end they have the same microphone set up
One of the greatest groups of all time 💕
Whoever sang second falsetto in that song has singing talent that cannot be duplicated!
Definitely Dennis!
Love when Otis is talking and Dennis try to hit a high note , Eddie go right over him, Melvin hitting that bass, mam what happened to good MUSIC
All I can say is that I love ❤️ this era of music. Temptations are one of my favorite male groups.
These old timeless classics heart stealers to the maximum
Been loving Eddie for over fifty years. The Temps were amazing performers and what a treasure to still enjoy today. Nothing better.
How cute was Eddie? Adorable and baby faced. My favorite falsetto. Temptations forever.
@1 min 12 seconds..."ain't nobody come to see you Otis"..😂🤣😂🤣
Wish the comments about Otis stop! Temp movie gang yall don't give no props; founding member!. Had my favorites respected all; by way he did something right. What year is it; he still kicking!

He's continuing the legacy
All you can say is wow" tempts forever...
The temptations the original 5 were in a class by themselves! 3 great leads and great moves! My #1 all time group!
Oh my goodness! I remember that cool mic stand! The Temptations were the coolest group ever! 💋
Did you know that David Ruffin invented that microphone stand? He conceived it so that the group could move more freely during their choreography.
What a voice ❤ RIP Eddie
Damn, those boys can sing!
I'm 64 years young, and I remember this song, constantly on the radio.Never tire hearing it!! Girls screams! PRICELESS!! 👍👍👍👍👍
There will never be another Eddie Kendricks in this life. The only person who has ever sang like or came to the closesest of sounding like Eddie Kendricks is my home guy, Baltimore's own, Damon Harris. This is a proven fact.
DAMON HARRIS'S VOICE WAS A GIFT FROM GOD...MAY HE REST IN PEACE !!!!!
Eddie has that charisma!
Man with the golden voice
Eddie Kendrick Is The Greatest Tenor Singer Of The Temptations. I'm so glad my sister who was 11 yrs older (52') than me (63') listened to all the greats, in turn I fell in love with them too. Remembering watching the Ed Sullivan Show and so excited when he had black artists on, in 7th heaven when Soul Train hit the airwaves on Saturdays. I came of age in an era with the most beautiful 🎶 ever.
These TEMPTATIONS will be imitated but never DUPLICATED. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I love Otis’s voice “with each beat of my heart and for every day we’re apart I’ll hunger for every wasted hour”.
Super Job Otis Williams!
The Temps are still one of the most imitated groups that made music for every occasion. Great natural individual talents came together to form super harmonies from the high to low vocal range that collided together. I remember when Dennis Edwards was a guest on a Christian network and the host asked about his early experiences in music and his early days with Motown and The Temptations. Dennis said Motown had experienced professional mentors that taught them how to behave. He said the Temps motto or code of ethics was something like this; the Temps were advices to;..
1."Always THINK like a Temptation;
2.Always ACT like a Temptation;
3.Always DRESS like a Temptation;
4.Always BE a Temptation"
Even today this still solid advice for the young Christian; 1.Always Think like a Christian;
2.Always Act like a Christian;
3.Always Dress like a Christian;
4.Always Be a Christian. Great video THANKS
You missed out the most important piece of advice Dennis was given by Otis which was:
5. Always REMEMBER, I own the copyright to the name, The Temptations.
Dennis must have forgotten this advice (warning) because Otis sacked Dennis in 1977.

Think about the preparation that went into this ed Sullivan performance. The vocals, the dance, the writing, the talent. Motown at its height in the late 1960s. Eddie and the boys hit a bases loaded home run. Peace, love and soul.

EDDIE HAD THE ONLY MASCULINE FASETTO OF ALL TIME AND HIS SMOOTH CHARISMATIC TRANSITION FROM NATURAL VOICE TO FASETTO WAS AWESOME
This is a perfect live performance.
E.K. at his absolute smmothest. His falsetto will always be a signature sound of the Classic Five and the Psychedelic Soul era featuring Dennis on lead.
IMO, I have not heard another group that harmonizes like the Tempts did.
Listen to the words, look at the performance. Dance etc. The heart and SOUL in the singing! motown at its best. Live on national tv! classic.
Melvin is holding the bottom down!
The effortlessness in the singing is identical. This is sad, actually emotional watching this.
Eddie Kendricks is his name and he had that voice, the man could sing!!
Dennis showed out the background. Pure talent.
that was him?!??!
Amazing song! Music today can't touch this!
Eddie's talent and love for singing was/is a blessing to me -- and all the brilliantly talented Temptations. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Temptations were the Best group to come out of Motown.
Seeing Blue here and realizing just how damn good a job D.B. Woodside did in the Temptations movie
FANTASTIC! The live harmonies, that live falsetto. THIS is singing. This is how you blend voices to create a wonderful sound. Such a pity they never got to sing it along with the Supremes. I know that "The Impossible Dream" was chosen to be released as a single and was featured as the closing number on their ground breaking TCB TV Special broadcast in December 1968. The show was taped earlier in the year and in the intervening period "Dream" was shelved in favour of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me". It's the only single release that the Supremes never performed on TV. A lost opportunity!
Couldn’t agree more. What a amazing treat it would have been to see them sing that song live.
Brilliant love the tempts especially Eddie xx
I’m glad there’s You Tube another great performance. They look so handsome.
