I think this video aired between 1969 and 1970.
One or two years late Stevie Wonder was going to start his incomparable career of creating and inovating. The genius marked the music history creating the most powerfull and fantastic songs of ever (in my opinion).

Stevie does things vocally that are absolutely amazing! His timing and placement is perfection never too much nor to little.

Stevie's first vocal part, up to the 1:30 mark, may have been one of the most perfectly, recorded vocals pieces in the history of humankind.

When Diana did this with The Temptations, it was like she was singing with an all-time great team. With Stevie, she sang with an all time great individual. The Temp version is classic. This version is once in a lifetime.
+matman8540 Stevie nearly outdid Eddie Kendricks if that was even possible and I like that version as well....but Stevie can take a song and make it even better once he begins his vocals.

Why is that relevant? Why are all videos of great old music filled with sanctimonious comments denigrating all modern music, as if it's all the same. Step outside of the Top 40 and experience incredible lesser-known musicians doing stunning work today.

In those days, they placed the mics above (over the performer). I wish they go back to doing that. Sometimes you could see it during taping. Or the shadow of the mic.
They are not lip-syncing. You cannot lip sync talent. You can give that award to Madonna, Britney and the other "so-called" artist. )

I was a little boy when this came out on TV, and already at this point Stevie Wonder was and still is my favorite singer, well over 50 years later.
And the incomparable Miss Diana Ross, yes she was gorgeous and still is and she is still the boss.
I loved the music at this time in R&B history. So clean, so creative, such good singing.
The way Diana hits that note in "I'm gonna make u love me!" Gives me goosebumps!

Just this small performance from stevie wonder ..shows that he was a musical genius his voice and timing with Diana and his riffing in between her versus an absolute musical genius.....when he hit that high note I got goosebumps
Stevie's remarkable sense of phrasing and tone in his vocals lets him take over any song and make it his. Diana sings it like she did on the recording but Stevie hardly goes by the standard set by the Temptations, which made every performance of his an adventure where you didn't know what to expect. What a genius, not just with singing too obviously.

@@beyourself2444 I was never really familiar with Sara Vaughan's singing But apparently she was a pretty unique and rare singer. Chaka Khan was a great singer but I wasn't really into Chaka Khan's music. Plus she hollered alot. Her hollering sounded beautiful at times, but there were many instances where her hollering just didn't appeal to me at all. I loved Dionne's style of singing and the sound of her voice and so many of her songs.
@@beyourself2444 I liked Aretha's voice (usually) and alot of her songs but she often made these hollas that didn't sound nice at all to me. And that Patti LaBelle does some phenomenal high notes but she screeches too much for me, making some of the ugliest sounds known man (or woman or tranny or UFO). With all that over singing and showboating that she does. Now I don't often condone violence but why can't someone (for just once) run up on that stage and just haul off and SLAP that Patti. I know that's mean cuz Patti has a beautiful spirit but still someone should just SLAP that woman when she's onstage doing that stuff (though her fans seem to LOVE it).

This is one of my favorite videos I found. 2 icons. Never knew Stevie looked so smooth when he was young. Plays multiple instruments, His tiny little noises and vocal sounds he makes during the song, his timing is genius. Their performance is organic, like they are really enjoying each other. 😊
