I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I subscribed to this channel because of the videos on the Cayenne, and I'd hazard a fair few others might fall into that category. If it were just the Punto videos I'd not have subscribed, they're just not my thing. So if, hopefully, this channel goes on to being something that benefits you financially, there's a high chance the Cayenne will have been fundamental in that.
If I’m to keep it, I’d need to find a much cheaper way to save it. Successful channels can’t be based on single cars though as they have a very finite lifespan of interest. As I said in the video I’m taking some time to figure out what to do next.
@@Project40Cars you're absolutely right. I think what I mean is that I hope in time the value of the Cayenne to kick-starting the channel will allay some of the financial woes and serve as some good value to it all. Here's to whatever is next for the channel and it being smoother sailing in future
Discovered the channel this morning for the Cayenne content, binge watched the lot and came to this terrible end. Would be a shame to see UK Cayenne content disappear - there's just not enough of it on YT.
That's tough, but hey it happens with used cars. All you can do is learn from it and keep on moving forward. All the best to you. Hope it all works out
They are pretty expensive here. And it might suffer the same issue. Also I’m not sure if there were any internal changes for the turbo s vs the std turbo. The plan is to get it fixed hopefully starting next week 🤞
Incredible to think I live in dubai and I had my engine mounts , new gearbox oil seal, crankcase seal, valve cover gaskets, all oils changed, engine mounts require and engine drop and it all cost me £3000 on my 955
Absolutely feel for you, that is a staggering amount of money for a timing chain, I would never of dreamed of it being that much, but I guess I’m totally out of touch with how much premium cars cost to fix now! I hope you can mitigate some of your losses at least, and you have still got a lovely yellow Punto.
I totally understand how it feels like cuz I got an 06 Cayenne Base 3.2 VR6 last year and it seems like to have some problems popping out. I fixed one and then another popped up, costing me quite a number of money. I have been thinking of selling it as is and stopping loss but I just don't wanna let go to be honest.
My 955 is costing me to maintain but I'm keeping it anyway. More recently I've had to have it realigned (drives much better again), the entire steering column replaced because of one faulty relay, the main transmission seal replaced because years ago caustic coolant leaked on it and rotted early. Had my timing chain gone I'd fix that too. Turbos tend to burn out before 100k but durable Cayenne turbos are among the best in automotive history; be happy you haven't replaced those yet. These are still high value vehicles even though not represented in price. The is a good enough after market for parts, especially for overlanding.
@@Project40Cars Do you still have plastic cooling pipes? It was a recall item but I had to pay for it because I wasn't original owner. Odds are you plastic cooling pipes have already been replaced as the plastic pipes did not last long at all.
Have you tried to just roll in a new chain? We used to do it on the mercedes engines. You just cut the chain and splice in the new one and have someone hold tension on it while you turn the crank all the way around till you get all the old chain out and then connect the ends. We used to do this just with one valve cover off. I just got a cheap 955 turbo and hate to see you have problems.
That wasn’t an option presented to me, the front end had to come off for the chain to be replaced. A cheap 955 will cost you money somewhere, if you budget £5k in your first year for servicing. You might be lucky and not need it.
Thats gutting news hopefully you can get a few other quotes for the belt and fingers crossed can get some cheaper. If not, consider a series of breaking the porsche if you have the space, but content wise would be difficult.
Is it worth trying the porsche company It's Joel used they seemed to be keen to be on camera and maybe have or considering some content themselves. Maybe have a conversation with them about doing the work with some joint filming . These turbo s have really popped up on people's radar this last 12 months. They get their business promoted and you get a deal on labour.
I am not you but I would just take the full front of the car, you can do the timing chain whist sitting in front of the car. Its just bolts , coolant and gaskets and the biggest bill is your own time.
Tbf that price was for the diffs, transfer case and the gearbox and it takes a couple of days as it needs to be run up to temp and then cooled overnight. And it requires about 9 litres of pretty expensive fluid just for the gearbox.
I think that with machines like this bought 2nd/3rd hand you need to have a very large slush fund in case you are unlucky or get stung. E.g.wealthy enough to take an educated gamble and then hope for the best. It's a lovely car and i am sorry for you having such rotten luck. It would make great content fixing it, BUT not if you have fallen out of love with it after all of the additional expenses. You have to really love the car to poor more money into its repair, plus find an exceptionally good specialist that you can trust. Not an easy decision when resources are limited.
I wonder would someone be willing to swap the Porsche for A.N.Other car? Or would a garage take a deal (part cash payment part payment in kind via video production work in exchange for the timing chain fix. (Do cinemas still have those awesome cheesy adverts for local businesses?)
Risk mostly, there's no guarantees that another second hand engine wont have the same and/or more problems. I am reasonably sure that the engine in the Cryenne is in good shape, aside from needing a new timing chain. The car should be getting back on the road in a week or so, all being well.
Dude, get all data and do it yourself! You don’t need to drop the engine out. I just watched another RUclipsr do a 2 part series took him 40 hours. Time to use your vacation time from work. Fcp euro sells the kit.
I’ve watched the videos, but doing a timing change in your own warehouse is very different to doing it on a small driveway in British rain 😂 The car has started its journey to being fixed, hoping to have it back in a couple of weeks.
I thought you had a diesel midel, with all the talk of dropping the engine in the ground. No need for all of that. Take off the front end and Bob's your Uncle! Better do belt, hoses and water pump. Better look at the facets and bolts, also the rear cam chains and solenoids. Also drop the engine oil cooler, replace the upper plastic connector and gaskets. When your there hoses are smart to replace. You could do the whole thing yourself for less than paying somebody else the labor.
It's only got a very small dent in driver's wing near headlight. Got paid over 5000 for the punters liability. Now a cheap car I use daily Could be a great donor car
