What I Learned from Letting AI Choose My Next Car
I need an automatic transmission project car, but can ChatGPT choose one my next project car? More importantly, can it help me make better (or less uninformed decisions) so I don't end up wasting money on unreliable cars. I was really surprised at the options it suggested, Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar, BMW Chat GPT really knew what cars I liked.

    This takes me back to my HGT. I had it from 2001-2008 when I wrote it off driving like a loon. I did a few light mods, HID retrofit, coupe 16vt alloys refurbed in metallic black, Supersprint, induction kit and I ordered new from the dealers an Abarth kit. Looked very cool. Its only annoyance was it used to ‘tractor’ for the first few seconds when starting it in the morning so used to replace the variation too often. It just occurred to me the part number is (or was) 60666199 I think I did a replacement guide on puntosportsclub? Good to see this one though👍🏻

      Thanks for watching! As with all AI it depends on what data it’s trained on. I spent some time with it and my channel data to train it on the kind of cars it I’ve bought before etc. Though it did still provide some incorrect answers (CTS-V & SRT-8 is an example of a partial hallucination as both are not t available in the u.k). It was an interesting experiment (for me at least 😅) and I’ll likely continue to train the model to see what other recommendations it provides.

    A very interesting video as I too am looking into 955 Cayenne's! I want one to stick my roof tent on and to enjoy a little more offroad capability than my E Class estate, haha! What kind of price would you say is right for a vehicle from say 2005 to 2008?

    • @Project40Cars
      @Project40Cars 21 день назад

      Thanks, it was a my first try at a buyers guide 😁 It really depends on condition. The cars can do the mileage but I would focus on the service history. Making sure that there are lots of invoices that show the car has been taken care of. You can spend as little at £1500 on a Cayenne but that is dangerous price point imo. A 955 turbo will have less chance of bore score, but they are more expensive. Any of the versions will still be pricey to run. I’d budget at least £2k for servicing in the first year, up to £5k in some instances. I definitely want to own another Cayenne at some point as they are genuinely great cars, i just had bad luck with the one I picked.

    add sport stubby radio antenna, change/raise rear view mirror so it doesn't block forward view, loose engine bay noise baffling from underside of hood(bonnet), delete clutch delay valve, look at Momo racing steering wheels, turn OFF traction control for track day, get Motul racing brake fluid which wont boil on track, add wheel spacers and raise chassis just a bit with coilovers, get AGM style battery, also it looks like someone added engine power before upgrading braking system, be careful with all that power, get stock seats for touring, easy swap...back to race seats for track day, cooling system is a weak link on all BMW, watch for overheating and leaks, Porsche is the enemy, they must be passed.....

     The front lower control arms are almost "consumable" on the V6 Alfas of this vintage, mainly due to weight over the front wheels. Not especially expensive to replace, but they generally only last 4-5 years (50-60,000km). Change them, and you will notice the difference. But a good set of adjustable coilovers will make it an entirely different beast. Alternatively (I can't tell from the video if its already fitted) the factory "sport pack" suspension - which is basically just shorter firmer springs that lower ride height by 25mm - transforms handling in terms of roll and pitch with minimal impact on ride quality. All three of my 156s have had either the sport pack or coilovers and had almost no body roll, and would really stick in the corners, best handling FWDs I've ever driven. In comparison, the ones I've driven with "stock" springs and ride height roll like an old boat in a storm. Totally different.

      Wiring looms are bespoke to each car/engine type, would be a lot of work to swap over.

    Once you have an alfa you become an expert at diagnosing faults. I have a 147 and as we speak there are no warning lights on the dash. Well, it is parked up for the night

      So far the only one that keeps coming up is the blown lightbulb. Except all of them are working.

    We didn't get the manual in Australia unfortunately. I'll will be dropping the 3.0L v6 and 4 speed zf auto out of my 05 166 later this month to diagnose an issue with the transmission. Two upsides of Australian delivered 166s is that they were all 3.0L bussos and we don't salt roads.

      Lack of road salt is such a USP for Australia. My poor Fiat punto became made of rust in the last year. How long have you owned your 166.

      @@Project40Cars Bought it in Brisbane and drove it straight to Toowoomba and parked up since. That was perhaps a year ago now. Former owner disclosed the engine mounts and suspension were shot. I've done all that, but the transmission has an issue and I'll be dropping the engine and trans in the next month or so to diagnose that. Good opportunity for a few other jobs there too (heater matrix, timing belts, etc.). In the mean time I use my 156 sportwagon when not in my work Ranger.

    Love these cars, I still have a period brochure for the 166 because at the time I was going through a phase of requesting brochures from manufacturer websites. I always thought the 166 was a bit anonymous but I think I would appreciate one these days.

    Great video, I'm going to buy a 955 so it is timely. About your production, the screen behind you moves a lot and flashes etc. To me, it is very distracting. It serves no purpose and detracts from your message. Thanks for the video though.

      @@Project40Cars No, it WASN'T HELPFUL. The screen behind you was distracting. Sad because your content is important. But your channel, you put in all of the distracting things behind you that you want.
