Face lifting my 56k mileage turbo S 955 to the 957 and over landing it here in Houston Texas, will be getting my timing checked just to make sure it’s ok after watching your video…great job man
You drove past my house 😂. I was in elite Porsche last week and saw your cayenne parked up. Glad to see it back on the road. looking forward to a video of you driving it to Stuttgart you paid so much to fix it, may as well enjoy it. I have a beige Turbo as my daily and totally love the car. Fingers crossed it doesn't break.
What you do with it? Detail it - the paint is full of swirls, the interior is scruffy - you say it's in good condition (and mechanically it might be), but it still looks a bit sheddy in your videos, sorry to say. Give it to a proper detailer - it will look so good you'll not want to either sell it or off-road it. But if you do the former, you'll be in 'first to see will buy' type territory, which is a good place to be.
Nice to see it back to full health. I have a 1998 Boxster that needed guides and chains. It's in mega good condition but still not worth a lot. A made the same decision and went for it, I also change the IMS, big end bearing and a piston while we had the engine out. £6.5k later and it's perfect. I don't regret it, it's minted and I am keeping it.
@@Project40Cars I've got a VW Scirocco that I bought for 7k a year ago, and since then I've spent another 7k fixing mistakes/shortcuts/cheap outs that previous owners had done that weren't detectable on test drive/inspection, as well as getting other components like the turbo back to an as-new condition. It's been a pain in the ass and I've questioned it so many times, but it is now absolutely sorted, like it just rolled out the factory, and the satisfaction I get from driving it knowing I persevered and got it to that level is indescribable. I imagine/hope you'll feel the same way.
@JamieWittGuitar The things we do for (automotive) love. It’s annoying when prior owners hide issues with their cars. I’m always upfront, as I can’t handle the stress of covering things up! Sounds like it’s going to be a mint Scirocco!
It's a known entity now and a car becoming more rare. Spend the summer and maybe next winter with it, have some fun and take it to Stuttgart then see how you feel. You've put the time and effort in, it'd be wrong for you not to reap the benefits of that.
@@Project40Cars Ahhhhhhh! It's always the small print that gets you. There's a few sets of 19" Porsche wheels on eBay if you're keeping it. Fabulous colour.
@@Project40Cars Avoid a lot of the 19's, the 19's I have on my Cayenne are awful for Tyre choice availability. You can get far better selection of good AT/multi climate tyres in 20"
Yup that’s a great suggestion, I’ve got an icarsoft por 2.0 (it’s how I diagnosed the deviation in December) but didn’t have one when I bought the car. 20/20 hindsight and all that.
@@Project40Cars I am looking at one on Friday and taking my foxwell i70 pro with me, if the dealer gets antsy at having it plugged in I will walk, also taking my mobile phone boroscope to check the plastic water pipes, don't think he will let me pull a spark plug and look at the bores though lol
Are you looking at a V8S or Turbo, bore score is less common on the turbos (which is why I got mine in the first place...supposedly more reliable). Make sure you to a before/after drive scan as the dealer may have wiped the codes before the test drive.
@@Project40Cars early v8 Turbo, but it's history seems good so hoping it's OK, the only thing I'm not sure on is the plastic water pipes, I'm taking a phone boroscope to try and see under the intake at the back, it's coming with a years warranty as well
Me and you are about to become best friends 😅 I have a turbo s 955 and I'm at the start of the journey now with it. The engine will be coming out soon for head gasket issues...
Congratulations on biting the bullet and getting it fixed. Don't sell/swop it yet you haven't had it long enough and may regret. Do some trips and enjoy it. I daily mine and the 15mpg is brutal but as long as you don't do many miles it's worth it.
I'm guessing the loss of power was the intercooler failure but that combined with the codes you found re timing caused concerns. Did it show any boost leak/lean running codes?
It’s rare and they do have their common issues but once you understand them it’s about preventive maintenance. Don’t turn it into an overlander..it’s the best colour match..but hate those wheels.
Pay it forward, except it’s with mechanical failures. Likely coils, have you scanned it? I’ve got some spare old coils from the Cayenne lying around somewhere.
The Cryenne is looking really great ! Do a couple of nice drives, NC 500, south of France, Alps, also some UK stuff with great driving roads. And then sell it. Don't make it an off-road thing, that is for manky looking diesel ones, yours is so shiny and possibly very dear for repairing off roading made problems ! And make multiple camera setup for filming the trips, it could well be a couple of older mobiles, but with good mounts. With some click baity titles, your videos will be great and have good view count.
Great video. Congratulations on the "new" car. There is a place in heaven for those who restore and repair older vehicles. Oh...... let's stop with the "Cryenne" name now. It deserves better. And it sounds whingy.
Yup, there’s wasn’t a “good” decision to be made, just less bad. Had I sold it for scrap I would have lost £10-13k in a few months. But repairing it means that I can sell the car for £7-8k, still a loss but not as epic. Fundamentally it’s a solid car now and it’s still a rare version.

Detail it yourself (lots of how to videos on RUclips and it's not expensive unlike the timing chain job and maybe get some new rims down the line and you're looking great. Don't overland it - you said it was gonna take you time to financially recover from that repair and overlanding is a money pit. Upgrade you head and tail lights and do a chrome trim delete instead as that's a far better way to blow cash, you'll feel better about the outside just like the audio upgrade made the inside feel better.
You’ve spent the money. Keep it and enjoy it. Fix it up fully. It’s going to increase in value soon.
Keep it!!! So happy you had everything fixed on the ole girl!!!!! Can't wait to see more of this 955 on your channel!

💯worth while getting it checked out, cam deviation of 7+ is a sign of timing issues.

Yup if we ignore the intercooler cost the chain itself was very reasonable.
Before buying one of these you should always plug it in to a good diagnostics machine and check the cam deviation

Welcome!
Head gasket issues are pretty rare, you could buy mine instead 😂
While he was driving he was not looking at the voltage gauge ( one on far right ) definitely reading low !!!!
On the turbo/turbo s the far right is a boost pressure gauge, so that will only move when the car is on boost.

The cost of fuel is the smallest part of my running costs atm 😅 I deffo want to get the car over to Germany in the next week or so.
I'm guessing the loss of power was the intercooler failure but that combined with the codes you found re timing caused concerns. Did it show any boost leak/lean running codes?
Yes it had a maf leak code (which was the cracked intake plenum) and the low boost code
With what you spent fixing and buying it you could bought the 958!

You either use it till it breaks again or let it be someone elses problem, it was never gunna be a cheap car to own or maintain
I had budgeted £5k a year on maintenance, sadly that was optimistic.

NC500 could be fun. I’ve already got 3 go pros (well 4 but ones broken), drones etc.
Where are your NS jacking point covers?
Both have gone walkies. The rear left before the car went away, the front has been lost in action. I’ve detached the other side for safe keeping.
@Project40Cars bugger! These parts seem to be extraordinarily expensive for what they are. Hopefully ebay could yield some sensible replacements.
