I am only 22 but i live in E Europe and i talked with many people who lived in that times. You could go in other countries buy clothes,cars come back home and make lots of profit. Most people believed that communists will come back and they were afraid to buy houses or cars and become bussinesman

For example people who bought things in the 1990's [apartments,land] and who sold them in 2000's become mega rich. You could open shops and people would come and buy like crazy. People suffered shortages under communism so they were eager to buy any sweets,drinks clothes from the west. Even now the East has potentiall,but its way harder...:(

He defrauded the nation of assets that belong to the country and its citizens. During the 90s people practically starved but oligarchs were not content with millions, they wanted multi billions. Russia has masses of resources gold, diamonds oil gas but strange how people like like they are in Romania. It’s because of people like him. He also did order people to be killed. Just judging somebody who has exterior charm is not a way to judge him. I liked him but he is soulless and cold. He was a sociopath

Yeltsin wanted the USSR torn apart as quick as possible, unfortunately in a country where the state handled all matters and people did not need to think about houses and education, the rapid change over to privatization was not well planned, Russia essentially come to a grinding halt. The oligarchs essentially took over the areas that would provide jobs and profit to Russia. It is a very complicated matter and Yeltsin really was thinking of the people, he wanted Russians to be free and have opportunity.
@@MarriedToTheKGB assets were cheap because of the risk of the country going back to communist....he took a huge risk and won... foreign investors didn't touch Russian assets for those reasons.
