    Glad I switched my main cam to the A6700 back in December. It’s worth the extra $400, and at the same time you get a better hybrid camera with the A6700. And as much as I’ve seen things about that camera overheating, I’ve never actually been able to get it to overheat. The A6700 is a better buy.

    Big Gerald, did I miss the section on stabilisation? The lack of IBIS and only cropped digital stabilisation are big negatives, surely? Also, a better comparison when talking about price is the A6700, which is much cheaper than the FX30 but has 4K 120p, an EVF and IBIS. I think that it's $400 more than this camera but what you get for it seem worth it.

    • @ags911
      @ags911 17 дней назад +2

      Still overheats, but this camera is aimed at vlogging and content creating. I’d say the A6700 is probably the best value camera with the most features. I’d personally get an FX30 with an A6700 for stills and AI features and the fan is so important for reliability.

    • @ags911
      @ags911 17 дней назад

      I’d also guess the A6700 also overheats like crazy too. Gerald should test with external batteries to see if the issue can be improved.

    As an owner of two zve-10 I can really champion this form factor/model variant. Nowadays, I use them for streaming, although they have been used to film various corporate projects with no hesitation. Realistically, the mark 1 is still great, warts and all. If I was being asked to recommend a camera to someone I wouldn't hesitate in mentioning this for most users, as most people over imagine their use of cameras.

  • @TerriblyCinemaddict

    I mean, I know this isn't a camcorder, but if I'm buying a video-centric camera, I would expect it to not overheat, which is why I would go for the FX30. If your just looking for a social media camera where you probably aren't recording for extended periods, awesome buy. Essentially what you summarized at the end. Thanks for the vid.

    I own the original ZV-E10, and it's still a solid camera that I have used to film hours upon hours of A roll, B roll, and behind the scenes content for my college course (film student). I also have it plugged into a camlink and mounted on my desk when I'm on discord calls, outputting 4K25 S-Log2 for hours on end, in a room that depending on the time of year and how long my PC's been running can vary from 17C to 27C. Not once has this thing ever overheated in its almost 2 years of continuous use.
    I've also got an FX30, not used as much cause I got it later on, but when I have used it, admittedly not in massively taxing conditions yet, the cooling system worked, and that camera has not overheated for me either.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is that the ZV-E10 II is a disappointment.

    Thanks for this. It sounds like an ideal camera for me: I am always working indoors for video (I might also take this camera on holiday, frankly, it looks handy for that, but won't be shooting video clips longer than a minute or two) and really fancy a camera that is small and light, gets a good runtime off the battery, and - obviously - turns in good image performance. I seldom record anything longer than 10 minutes in one shot so in my worst-case scenario can't see overheating being an issue. Horses for courses and all that.

    Hi Mark, this is a great review, Definitely gonna order it. I have a question though. Which Picture Profile would you recommend is the best suited for this camera (as well as ZV-E10 Mark I)? I've been shooting in HLG3 & 2 with the old one....

    Just saw another youtuber's video and they had no overheating issues. Makes me wonder if there's a drastic variability between models. Definitely feels like one will need an aftermarket fan for the zve10 ii though.

    interestingly, when you know exactly your use case - I would argue that you are using the equipment professionally and thus you can spend more (unless you have to buy, say, 10 or 100 of these cameras and then every penny counts).
    Otherwise, if you are just using your camera for fun - it is no fun when it stops working.
    I'm shooting k-pop cover dance performances, they are usually (99%) are done in public and about 50% happen at 2-4 PM
    My a7 iv stopped working after second take (it was +31C I think) at 4k60p, had to switch to 30p
    Not sure what I wanted to say, but I'd say I really respect Gerald for being so thorough. I've seen other reviews and yes, at 23C it runs forever, but come on, billions of people live in places where 21C is considered cold, lol

    Would it be possible to use a dummy battery to help with overheating?

    Right now. A used A6700 costs 200-300 more than the launch price of this one and gives you mechanical shutter, mechanical is, evf, a weather sealed body and twice the framerates.
    It’s neat, no doubt, but it doesn’t beat the 6700 for value imo. Especially as you can get deals or buy used.

    So it’s a 1000$ webcam that overheats, nah I’m good. I’ll take the fx30 any day if it means I don’t have to be paranoid about temperature.

    Thank you for your video. I'm looking for a camera option for streaming through Streamyard or directly onto RUclips. I was able to use my Canon 90D until I updated my apple software. Canon hasn't come out with software that works with the new update. My setting is always in my studio and my livestreams can run long. Is this a camera you would recommend? I'm streaming beauty content and would like my viewers to see details. Can you recommend a lens and camera you think would be best for my needs? Thank you.
    I should mention I have basic knowledge when it comes to cameras. I wish I had help with settings. OH, and I would use a dummy battery.

    Apparently they launched it at 1850 AUD in Australia. Now down a smidge but still a price that makes no sense compared to the 1000 USD in the US.

    Hm. This is the first zve10 ii review that says it overheats. Other reviewers said it lasted 3+ hours until they got bored and quite. Never overheated. Hmmm. It very rarely hits as low as 88° here. Sounds like the camera was not designed for outdoor use? We got as cold as 103° at 2:00am a few days ago. I appreciate the more honest review with a fair comparison. I think I'll hold onto my ZV-E10 for a while longer (it's barely a month old).

    I REALLY appreciate the overheating tests. Example: we are currently looking for a camera for our youth group and we are in Texas shooting summer camp. Our direct sunlight is going to be 100F and above in very normal circumstances. Seeing an 11 minute time frame between 70-80F just tells me this thing will cook like an egg in our world 😂
    I often see people state “but you won’t see that in normal temperatures” but if you live basically anywhere in the south or along the equator normal temperatures are like an oven.
    So docs, outdoor weddings, camps, you name it, it’s a daily occurrence to film outside in the summer for some of us. Thanks for including overheating info because for us it’s one of the most critical parts of the camera. Fans create issues as well because of dust and rain, here in TX weather can go from flood to hot summer day in the same day. Literally just had it happen with the hurricane

    It’s such a great cam, you get FX30 image for a price of 1000€… awesome! I’m gonna buy it for sure, don’t want the EVF, I’m not a photographer! Ibis is sad, but I use gimbal anyway for smooth image, 10 bit is great and the new screen. Great upgrade from last version which I own aswell, well 3 of them even :p

    I am considering this as an upgrade on my 12y/o Canon SL1 for street photography and sort videos.I was hoping canon would rev the R10 but that doesn't look to be on the menu for this year. My primary camera is now my phone (I expect this to continue with the iPhone 16) since an iPhone is somewhat more stealthy in crowd environments. Having this as a secondary when I need some flexibility in lens choice or need to use an ND filter this is a goto choice.

    Its crazy how the a6400 and a6600 can do 4k 30fps and not overheat or last way longer than the new cameras. But the new cameras has better NR, DR and more bells and whistles

    Awesome video and charts. You put so much work into this. I'm just surprised at how extremely bad the picture quality looked in the short test. I know it's shut on a mediocre kit lens - but still... looks way worse than a modern smartphone.
