I wouldn't even answer these fools. Most of them have an aversion to Biblical Epics so they seek to denigrate the entire project. I'd love to have seen Jack Lemmon attempt the character Judah Ben-Hur.
Can any of us imagine what it must have been like to win an Oscar at this time in cinematic history. Charlton Heston's voice alone lifted all of us into the realm of believing the make believe.
……his beautiful bass voice was even more outstanding when listening to his poetry recitations’, or just talking, in an auditorium. Audiences’ were spellbound. Had the great honour, & privilege of meeting him, & his wonderful wife, Lydia, many times’. Miss them both terribly. RIP……

Stunning performance by Heston, this movie has some of the best acting scenes ever, especially the scenes between Ben hur and messala,a true masterpiece of an epic movie
I truly think that Charlton Heston was a good actor, and he certainly gave one of his best performances in Ben Hur. He also acted very well in El Cid, Khartoum, Planet of the Apes and The Agony and the Ecstasy. He always played well those characters who were larger than life.
The man he referred to as "giving more than any of us" was Sam Zimbalist who worked so hard on Ben Hur that he had a heart attack and died. I applaud Heston for mentioning that, as most people would not: A) want to be a downer B) take attention away from themselves He was a class act.
The thing I like most about past Academy Awards programs is that ALL the films were excellent and you knew it was very, very difficult to chose a winner because the competition was really fierce. Amazing that so many excellent films were launched each year.
My first love affair with Epic movies and I loved it and still love watching Ben Hur! Thank you Mr Charlton Heston for your Brilliant performance in the film. A very well deserved Oscar and such a humble acceptance speech! RIP Charlton Heston 🥰😍🙏❤🧡💛
I think Heston's performance works because of his sincerity. You believe that he is a character in that time period, even though, of course, he's a modern American. After a few scenes, you almost forget it's Heston and you just think of him as Ben Hur. The film (as great as it is and as terrific all the supporting cast are) still relies on the audience engaging with Heston/Hur and he did deserve the Oscar for pulling that off.

A jaw dropping performance from Heston in Ben Hur. Its a performance that has stood the test of time, and will live on for generations to come :)
