I am a girl but I think this advice can be applied to anyone! Thank you for these helpful videos. They get to the point and are organized, which I really appreciate
Hey, thanks for doing a video on this topic! Back when I was just a little boy, someone [at school?] commented about how I hardly ever smiled. It was something I never even noticed. So, over that weekend, I periodically spent time alone in the mirror practicing and perfecting my smile. After about a week or two of practicing in the mirror, everyone started commenting about how *GREAT* of a smile I had. And, even to this day, the most common compliment I get is about my big smile! So, when you mentioned that speaking with confidence is something that we should practice, I was immediately able to relate to that idea. And, looking back on how I practiced, developing my smile was mainly about being self-aware and about relaxing my facial muscles so that they weren't so tense.
6. Be Sincere. Yeah. A close cousin to don't be arrogant. I've noticed in my own conversation that when I try to speak with confidence, what I sometimes project to others is arrogance. I have to make a conscious effort to dial it back a bit. I don't mean to be arrogant, but that's what is projected when a person acts a little too confident. It's a subtle, invisible line that I'm trying to be more aware of.
The funny thing is on this video - where I am talking about speaking clearly - my primary microphone froze and we had to use the backup audio. So that's why it's a little quiet!
I vouch for this lesson. I was taught early on these ideas, and I get compliments on how I can speak to a group anywhere and hold everyone's attention so easily.
Great video Antonio! I loved the reminder to "think before you speak". It reminds me of the idea in a conversation of pausing 3 seconds before speaking. Just a simple pause can add some time to speak with thoughtfulness! Thanks for your excellent work!
Excellent advice! I have noticed in my readings, from declassified documents to transcendentalism period writing that I can speak better because I can build sentences and thoughts at a variety of levels for discussion points. Sometimes I speak overly eloquent in my verbiage and sentence structure, so also knowing your audience is an important aspect. I would also point out that in knowing your audience, with knowledge of topics, I can ask questions I know the answer to (of bias or prejudice possibly) to get another angle and suddenly I learn more an listen more intently.
Thank you so much for this! I'm a 21 year old guy and I've struggled with this stuff all my life. My parents didn't help me with this stuff like they could have. That's why I stumble on my words and things like that but I wanna be a better listener and really truly understand people and speak clearly as well
I just came across your page and I'm definitely subscribing. All the mistakes you mention here I make, I'm a terrible listener but even worst when I open my mouth. Is getting to the point where I feel like I'm closing myself in even more. 😳 I'm a woman and I think you are very helpful
Thank you for your videos. I have watched many of them and distill them to teach my two young sons, 11 and 8. I am trying to give them a head start on being proper gentlemen and your videos have been invaluable, though geared to adults. You speak clearly and our homeschool loves you!
I used to read Science News as a 12 year old - wanted to be a scientist for a long time - then I realized it wasn't very exciting so I joined the Marines!
this is probably the best advice i've had in years. I myself am a good listener but i do sometimes speak things without thinking through. It's very tough since im from a very short and hot tempered family. Well, im only 19 so there's still a bit of time left to perfect this skill. I find it extremely hard to listen to some of my friends when we're debating though. They starts to talk without even thinking of thinking on the way they are talking. Making complete no sense in their speech
Real Men Real Style Again I can't thank you enough for your videos! I do take notes and I try to share the knowledge with my friends so everyone reaches their fullest potential !
Hello guy, i find your videos really really awesome, they help me a lot, especially my presentation skill is getting better. you've done a really good job !thumbs up ~
It's funny I was looking for tips to brush up on my public speaking...I didn't know this video was directed for MEN.... I plan to have my first Conference April 2014....I enjoy talking to people...I just have to speak a little slower...You do have a great video...the tone of your voice is comforting...some speakers have a horrible tone that distracts the audience...lol
I love watching your videos, you give out great advice to anyone and everyone. I try not to let the nerves get in the way when i present, but its always there and i end up messing a line up as if it dropped out of my head. But il take your advice onboard about public speaking and im sure itl work! :) Thanks again
This is some great advice Antonio. I have always found that I learn more by listening. Listening is of course akin to reading - so if a person is considered well-read, it could also be said that he is well-listened.
GREAT advice! Here are some follow ups: On practice: Look up the 10,000 hour rule. I don't know that I believe it completely (PERFECT practice makes perfect), but it's a good start. On reading: I would suggest more literature novels. Look up "100 Must Reads" on artofmanliness. I'm horrible about thinking before I speak, it's my main problem with girlfriends. My mind is always moving and my wit gets the best of me. Oh, and this: 7.) Careful not to repeat "at the end of the day" too much! ;)
Listen at least twice as much as I speak, ask other people questions so I have to talk even less, think a ton before speaking, and read on stuff I lack experience in? I'm like most of the way there already, and try to be empathetic? I feel like I think that I already do all of those but the real problem is getting the confidence and wisdom to know who to converse with and when.
Excellent advice! I have a 20 minute presentation coming up, funnily enough on nanotechnology! These tips are going to help me a lot, just as your style tips have inspired my arsenal of sport jackets! Thanks Antonio
Antonio thanks for sharing this knowledge i hope to apply it to everyday encounters with people. I like what you said because for the most part i could relate. Thanks again and God bless you.
hmm! listen not just because you want to give advice in return, but just because THEY want to talk... wow! that's a nugget, i have always felt that i must give my opinion or advice to everyone that shares there issues with me, but that's not necessarily so, just shut up and listen, maybe they just want to talk,,
I found, that men usually when they hear a problem, they hurry up with a solution. But women, when they are talking about a problem, they usually don't want a solution from you, they just wanna talk about it, and then they feel better already. Strange for me as a man, but true.
I was pleasantly surprised when you mentioned Gary Taubes. Nutrition is a really big interest of mine, and Taubes is definitely a great author on the subject. Even without that, though, this video is something that I desperately need, so thank you for your excellent advice.
Do you have a video on how to always find something to talk about? I tend to run out of stuff to say very quickly, then I get bored in the relationship and break up and find someone else to do it all over again.
Thank you Antonio for the advice. I would like to be as professional as you are at speaking one day. Though I have a suggestion on what people should watch to help with there speaking abilities. Look up "debates" held at colleges like Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard etc......My preference is theology vs atheism. You will always find great speakers on both sides of those arguments. You can look up any subject to your liking, but theology vs atheism deals with many subjects ranging from science to philosophy. It is intelligence fused with superb speaking skills. A good vid would be; "Richard Dawkins vs John Lennox." Again, thank you Antonio.
I'm kind of silent guy to begin with, so I have no trouble listening, thinking before I say something, learning new things, or being sincere. I practice talking when I'm by myself, like the surgeon guy you mentioned. I just never know when to say something, or if what I have to say even matters. In other words, I have no confidence when I speak. I guess this is more geared to guys who don't really know when to shut up.
Real Men Real Style Thank you for your response! For too long, the only self-improvement and practical fashion advice came from the PUA movement. And that ended up leading so many men astray. I'm so glad someone who was in the military, who has a family and kids, and gives off a very normal non-PUA-vibe is now stepping up to the plate and teaching men how to be men. Keep it up! You have the full support of our channel!
Hi Antonio. I am really enjoying and mainly learning a lot from your videos. I have something to share with you, so please let me know your thought: One of the greatest rules while shooting a video is ROT which is the Rule of Thirds. I am wondering why I don't see you applying it while filming your videos. It would also enable you to avoid moving a bit to the right so that your text (tips here) pops up on the left side of the screen. Apart from that, your videos are super powerful and I believe I know the secret: Hard work pays off.
1. Practice
2. Listen
3. Ask questions
4. Think before you speak
5. Read outside your expertise
6. Be sincere
Prepare mentally what you're gonna say...and then say it. Its a good practice and will help a person to stop fumbling for words.
I am a girl but I think this advice can be applied to anyone! Thank you for these helpful videos. They get to the point and are organized, which I really appreciate
+Taylor Nguyen Great to have you here! What do you want to see more from my channel?
+Real Men Real Style i cant speak clearly too,and i found this video helpful
You are welcome and good luck, practice does it all!

I feel like over the last week, getting to know people better in my grade at my school; I've learned to become more sincere!
Thank you for the warm words!
My problem is I'm scared that they will think I'm weird and I have a weird voice but when I'm with my friends I'm loud as hell

I agree - anyone know of a great video blog for the ladies?
I haven't learnt to be confident just by being me I am confident.
Me too.
Simple but helpful. It is surprising how this stuff really works. Great vid.
Does this apply when I ask where the bathroom is located?
I used to read Science News as a 12 year old - wanted to be a scientist for a long time - then I realized it wasn't very exciting so I joined the Marines!
Try repeating it back to them - or even ask if you can take notes - this will force them to really think about what they're saying:)
Only took me a few second to recongise that youre a prefessional genuine tutor. Thanks very much for your sincercity,
