5150 is always such a beast of an amp...and loud. Volume meter's already showing 99dB behind the cab when post-gain (master volume) is hardly at 2 and it just getting warm at that point. Even 6505+ as 50-watt version (combo converted into a head) with 2x12" V30 cab gets extremely loud with post-gain at 3. But the tone is just

Why would he do a whole new video just to use a different boost pedal that does 99% the same thing as every other boost? Idk about you but I’ve played many tubescreamers. I have a TS7 and a OD808 for example, if you did a blind shootout between them no one would be able to tell the difference. And the TS7 I bought for literally 20$. Plus it actually has another mode that sounds pretty good on a clean amp. While the 200$ OD808 has just one mode. You already have a fine boost pedal. Don’t worry about it

I love the sound of a 5150. I still have my Voodoo modded 5150 II. The only amp I’ve bought since then is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for cleans and low dirt tones. I have been itching to get a PRS Archon though.

The green channel boosted with a tube screamer is where the magic is on those older 5150’s.
Cool idea to use the noise gate in the chain and the FX Loop at the same time, it never came up to my mind, will have to try that setup with the TC Electronic Sentry.
It is not simply in the FX loop. The cockblocker use the guitar's signal to "key" the gate. Check out Glen's video about this pedal.

For real, on my 6505+, which isn't as scooped sounding btw, it doesn't need resonance above maybe 3. It gets super boomy.
Could you do a comparsion between the 5150 and the 5150II/6505+? Would be interesting to see if there actually is a noticable difference

I've been working from home during the plague. I ordered a 5150 and have it due to be delivered on Wednesday while the Mrs. is at work. The perfect plan then work told me I have to come in on Wednesday. Damn it. Oh well sleeping on the couch again.

@Chuck Embury honestly don't know. My friend who is a local amp tech did it. I believe there was a ritual blood offering and a recitation of sacred schematics involved. The thing is so tight that I can Dime the gain and it doesn't even squeal. It has EH power tubes, and a specific assortment of tubes in the preamp that he wanted in each position. It is an original 2001 mkii, so it has some years and has had to have some of the small parts replaced with age as well. But it will stand up to anything else with no sweat.
Hey man, I can imagine that it takes a lot of effort to assemble a rig like this. How about at the end, you do a cover of a song with that rig? It doesn't need to be very professional, more like your kitchen cover. This way we can get 3-4 minutes of listening to a kickass song on a kickass rig.

I believe the Mesa cab is the main difference to that special sound.
EQD makes great pedals, I got 3 of them after watching Stefan's videos on ThePedalZone. And the space spirals is technically a delay pedal.

Peavey classic 50 is my go to studio amp (clean, dry signal), also.

That riff @ around 7:20ish - 7:48 is most certainly NOT ugly...before you even said that, I had plans to write you, this, about it...SUPER SICK & aggressive! Wicked riff my man, wicked riff! If you aren't going to use it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you.
Of course, it might just be the monolithic tone from the Solars tonight; or, that from the devastating rig-of-the-week, this week...but, either way, CRUSHED it tonight! 🤘
Man, I'm running basically the same setup and it is the best metal tone I've ever gotten after 15 or so years of playing metal. For some reason I'm able to crank my highs and get little to no fizz allowing me to get a super tight palm mute attack.
Charvel DK24 w/ BKP Juggernaut | Drop B (11-54s)
ISP Decimator II > Maxon OD808 (drive min, Level max, Tone max)
5150 (signature) with Dougs Tubes High Gain tube set (the tubes changed this amp into a beast)
Settings (0-10): Lead channel Gain 1.5 | Low 5 | Mid 4.5 | High 7.5 | Resonance 6 | Presence 8 | Volume ~3 (varys with each application)
Mesa OS Recto Cab (V30s)
I've owned 2 other 5150s, Mesa mark IV, Mesa Mark V, Splawn Quickrod, Framus Cobra, Framus Dragon, Axe FX II XL, as well as many Jackson and Ibanez guitars and this combination is hands down the best i've ever gotten. Changing out the pickups to BKP Juggernauts and replacing the tubes with Dougs Tubes 5150 high gain set seriously took this combination to the next level.
I really find these videos informative! And I just ordered a Cock Blocker by reasons of the nam... recommendations both from you and other videos. I trust it to "tame" my 5150II to the point that I can sucsessfully (?) pair it with my Helix. Can't wait!

I can't comment on the rig, but I have the EQD Space Spiral. It's a modulation/delay/reverb pedal. I never heard it used in metal.
