    Oh also James had his own story about how the 5150II came to be. He says it wasn't an accident, it was intentional. They were test-driving the (at the time) new 5150 combos, and Eddie felt like they were muddier due to having to hit the power amp harder (only 60w + only 2 speakers vs his usual 100w + fullstacks). So James did a mod that filtered the front end to make it tighter. Eddie loved it so much they did it to his main 5150 touring amps for the Balance tour and eventually became the 5150II.

      @willchug 7 месяцев назад +5

      No, James actually did say @ 24:14 it was an accident.
      Maryland Car put in a 2.2 capacitor and it was supposed to be a 22
      So it cut off more low end going into the amp and made it tighter.

      @@willchug seems like both are true then since it originally came from an input mod he did for the 5150 combo to make it tighter

    Best amp Peavey ever made....WITHOUT question. Something about this amps mids made its characteristics much closer to a Marshall. And, now they're obscenely expensive. The question is why did Peavey stop making this amp?!?! This amp with the clean channel of the Classic would be the perfect amp.

    • @SluggerStark
      @SluggerStark 7 месяцев назад +2

      Yup, more upper mid content and a little more filtering up front for a tighter sound than the OG 5150. Equally awesome amps. Just like everything nowdays, lots of people looking for the "homerun" $$$ in their listings....but you can still find deals on these if you keep an eye!

    • @phillamoore157
      @phillamoore157 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@SluggerStark Very well said. My financial advisor (better known as my wife) has threatened to cut off a portion of my "manhood" if I bring home another piece of gear. I've got a Classic I love, I just wish it's dirty channel was like this. IMO Peavey hasn't done a real good job of bridging that gap of high-gain amps, and the Classic. The Classic's gain structure is perfect, but it sounds a bit anemic, if you know what I mean. The 5150II's dirty channel, and the Classic's clean, would be the perfect American plexi. But, yes, patience is definitely a virtue on these older, rare, amps.

      I've tried 5150's and rectifiers. And I gotta say on average I liked the 5150's more. I tried the 50 watt 5150 III *the first one to ever come off the line, and was signed by EVH himself*. And I absolutely loved it.

Had a couple Mesa Quads, (one backup) way back in the day while touring, and i fell in love with those things, though a pain to dial in. Buddy had an original block logo 5150 when they first came out, tried it only once and sounded good from what i remember (ya, im old). We see what happens. Just played this model at GC the day before yesterday….they’re one of the few amps that ABSOLUTELY do not need to be boosted. There’s so much TIGHT gain on them as-is and the resonance feature actually does what you expect it to…it adds that big, almost subby low end. On some other amps, the resonance control is more like a low-mid fill.
    I’d say the only thing bad about the amp is the way the channel layout and the footswitch work together. For that reason, I wouldn’t buy this amp, I’d instead get the Invective or the 3120….they have the same type of sound but the 3 channels are independently switchable on the floor.

      I use TS-808. And SD-1 with my Marshalls 👌😎.

    How do think the ii compares to the evh iii all tube 100 w amp?
    I see I can pick one up for 800 with 12x4 Marshall cab. Just hesitant on buying used. But like you said if it ain’t broken don’t fix it… the ii sounds awesome because you got control…. Just wanted to know your opinion on the iii

    I was wondering if I should mod mine to the OG lead channel spec. sometimes I find it way too tight and want a more raw aggression of the original. its like a 3 parts swap mod

    Maybe compile all these intro instrumentals into an indie release, dude.

      My next solo album will feature these with different vocalists. It comes out via major label: digital, CD & Vinyl. The first single & music video out pretty soon 🎶🤟.

    Huh, given that you didn't like the 6505+ that much, I thought you wouldn't like this either. Sounds great.

      I think he liked both, just said the + he didn’t like the green channel rhythm clip as much. I’ve owned both and currently have a + and plan to get another regular as well. The + is my favorite for downtuning and the regular is better for like D standard and up. The + is also better unboosted, but I tend to usually boost both of them.

      @@brandonbryson3317 I've heard that. I imagine using boosting with Passives on the plus would be better than actives.
