I've had my Autel drone, Minjin, for about a year now, too (Second-hand on eBay). So far I've used in it Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova. Two crashes, and yesterday it went for it's first swim! (Weather? 33 degrees F. And I had to wade in up to my knees to retrieve her! Brrr!) Today? After drying out she works perfectly. Not only is this drone an amazing piece of technology - producing amazing footage - she's a roller-derby queen, shrugging off the punishment I dish out with a shrug and a "Is that the best you got?"
i love my autel x-star premium also, its a top notch drone for the money i use it for work checking the tops of houses chimneys things of that nature just enjoy flying it i will try and do more with it later but for now it works great the extra sensors are worth the money believe me it has saved its self from many accidents where i can get control back and get out of danger thanks jim
You mentioned you had a voltage drop in battery number 2. I had same problem and almost lost my drone because of it. If you go into the Battery Settings you will see 4 battery cells. When fully charged they read 4.18 respectively. This is normal. If however, there is a variance of .05 or higher between any of the cells this is bad! Autel will replace bad batteries for free. They say batteries are generally only going to last 1 year. They also told me to try and deplete bad battery and to fully charge it but still had problems with voltage discrepancy and had flight failure again. So i dont trust trying to revive a dead battery. So had all batteries replaced. Just thought i would share this info with you if you were unaware. Happy safe flying
Great video, another satisfied customer of Autel, like me lol. Use mine for work as well and recreation, I too have been looking at the Yuneek 520 commercial application, Now Autel has come out with the EVO with almost all the same capabilities as the Yuneek.... have to have a closer look.
Do you still have it? It's been a year for my X-Star also. I've had some issues, but Autel di take care of it. I did have a very bad gimbal tilt after the firmware in October. Again I sent that out and Autel fixed that. Sadly, this is a discontinued drone, accessories like props. and batteries especially are so hard to find now! Just last week during pre-check flight - like you do, Had to replace dampeners and 2 pins...no big deal. But I noticed a small stress crack in my rear left motor on the top shell. THAT looks easy to replace, the top part - compared to the bottom, but even a replacement orange shell is hard to find now. I COULD get a white shell at Carolina Dronz, I suppose thats better than nothing. I'd just have an orange bottom with a white top. I've had fun with my X Star and would love to continue that (whenever Spring decides to arrive around here in the NE!), but it's NOT fun when Autel decides to stop making parts for everyone who purchased this model. I know all focus is on the new Autel Evo.
The X Star Premium is my first serious drone. I just want to say that the customer service has been absolutely PHENOMENAL!!! Thanks for sharing your videos, and please keep them coming!!
I have same drone. Got mine Aug. 2016. Great drone. I have the Tab A 10inch. Works great. I remember watching your vid when you changed the shell. You said you use it for your business. Do you the have the license? Just curious as to how hard the test is?
Not to discourage you, just keep in mind that this is now a discontinued model. Yes it still can be purchased at a few places, but still at a very high price (Best Buy, on "sale" $749.00- which to me isnt really a sale at all, they claim the reg price was $899, that's $100 bucks more than what it was sold for this time last year!) Anyway, you'll get this drone, but if you need new propellers, extra batteries..they are not easy to find anymore. Batteries are darn near impossible. There are few 3rd party sellers on Amazon jacking the price up as high as $115-$130, Ebay, also MUCH higher prices for the X Star battery. - All about supply and demand...and most likely price gouging also. So something to think about. I've had this X-Star drone for a year, been especially happy with Autel Customer service -- and it's the reason why I chose Autel. I've heard horror stories about DJI's customer service. Autel has the new "Mavic Pro" like drone coming out ("soon" sadly, thats all anyone knows right now about a release date) called the Evo. Lot of cool features and it does start at that $999 price.
Hi, excellent job. I heard Autel is going out of business, wrote them a letter to just tell me the truth and he wrote back that they are preparing a statement .. don't know. thank Richard Miller retired Police
Can you explain the ND filter thing? Does that mean the camera is cheap and does not have a variable aperture, it can only alter light via ISO & shutterspeed. If this is true how do the ND filters make things better?
but you need the nd filters for what? Is it some video gets blown out and turns white or is it for better video quality OR is it it to reduce your shutter speed to make things look smoother?
It really depends on the environment you fly in, I am pretty far away from any city and all the signals that pollute them. Try taking yours out to the countryside and see if it impoves
Great review. Anyone know where I can get this drone the cheapest with a warranty? Ebay running for $350-$450 on the used low end and bestbuy.com at $899. The Mavic Pro at bestbuy.com also $899. Anyone have thoughts on new vs used and warranty concerns?
DON'T GET A YUNEEC. The autel is much, much better. I owned a Q500 that literally couldn't stop trying to destroy itself (one of the videos on my channel shows it killing itself on landing; it ACCELERATED into the Earth.) I wish I had bought the X-Star Premium first, the Yuneec lacks SO many autopilot functions, has incredibly shit range (get the Autel Range Extenders off of Amazon for 20$, it will extend your X-Stars range to 3 miles, no joke!) and has several software glitches that will not be fixed by Yuneec (the yaw issue causes it to oscillate back and forth instead of smoothly yawing left or right, and then when it's too fargone, it will do a 360 degree spin on the spot, sometimes causing it to fall from the sky.) I cannot advise against the Q500 enough; your X-Star is worlds better than it.

awesome follow up, brutal and honest, now I want one to replace my wingsland minivet
Thanks for this Video is was helpful. Flew my Autel drone for the first time today

I'd recommend using sewing machine oil instead of WD40🤙🏻
I own the same drown love it everything about it never had no problems

Good information, makes me almost wish I don't sell mine. I miss my Autel more than the DJI Mavic I just sold.
Great upload! Thanks for sharing!
The X Star Premium is my first serious drone. I just want to say that the customer service has been absolutely PHENOMENAL!!! Thanks for sharing your videos, and please keep them coming!!
Standard WD40 is a water repeller, not a lube. I used it once on my hubsan and motors started screaming from the metal to metal contact
Excellent video on X Star review. Are you still flying your X Star these days?
yup still almost once a week
its still a great drone
Love the video! Very honest and answered a lot for me THANKS! Happy fly's

Almost indestructible 😁 love it!
Hello and nice video. What Mode is the controls in? And can you switch to a different mode?
+7passu yes you can switch on the fly between all 3 modes. GPS, attitude and IOC
Great channel.
Thank you!
Thanks. I am looking at these

Youll Log thank you. I am waiting for the evo

Great review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great review. I like mine too
What app do you use for android?
Has anyone had issues with the X-Star not hovering for some reason. Can anyone offer some advice?
informative, thanks!
I've read the DJI's software restricts drone flight based on your proximity to airports, up to 5 miles. Does the Autel do that?
Not at this time, but It will warn you about it.
Can you explain the ND filter thing?
Does that mean the camera is cheap and does not have a variable aperture, it can only alter light via ISO & shutterspeed. If this is true how do the ND filters make things better?
+I don't know the ND filters work like sunglasses for the camera, I am not sure if the camera has an apature control, but it does have EV settings
but you need the nd filters for what? Is it some video gets blown out and turns white or is it for better video quality OR is it it to reduce your shutter speed to make things look smoother?
helpful review!
Thank you!
3IN1 Oil much better. WD Has tiny ball bearings that can clog or rust if it gets moisture.
Is Autel Robotics an American company?
Martin Phillips nope...they have a US division but they are a Chinese company
Hello I have the same drone and I wonder if it is normal to lose the video signal over 200 meters high and 400 meters away. I always lose the signal.
It really depends on the environment you fly in, I am pretty far away from any city and all the signals that pollute them.
Try taking yours out to the countryside and see if it impoves
What is the app name for android tablet?
Starlink

how abt obstacle avoidance feature, is it ok?? ty
+SEPH the X-star does not have obstacle avoidance
nice video but did you have to spit on your garage floor now that was nasty dude!👍👍
Just focus on the subject of the video.
Too bad Autel stopped making the batteries for it and left all their customers stranded with no refunds or recourse and a great drone you cannot fly.
Lmao. Awesome vid.
