- "Human Nature" is a song performed by American singer Michael Jackson, and the fifth single from his sixth solo album, Thriller. The track was produced by Quincy Jones and performed by members of Toto with Michael Jackson providing vocals.
It was originally written by keyboardist Steve Porcaro, based on a conversation he had with his young daughter Heather after a boy pushed her at school, Porcaro said "he probably likes you and it's human nature". Porcaro, along with some of his bandmates from the band Toto, had been assisting with the production of Thriller, but he had not intended for "Human Nature" to be used by Jackson. However, Thriller producer Quincy Jones inadvertently heard a demo version of the track and thought it would be a great fit for the album. Jones then brought in songwriter John Bettis to rewrite the verses, whose lyrics are about a passerby in New York City.
"Human Nature" was released as a single on July 3, 1983. Like the four Thriller singles before it, the song became a top 10 hit in the US, reaching number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached number two on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and is certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In Canada and the Netherlands, the single reached number 11. The single was not released in the UK. The song garnered positive reviews from music critics. "Human Nature" has been sampled by numerous artists, including Nas with "It Ain't Hard to Tell" , and Teddy Riley who remixed SWV's single "Right Here", with a sample of "Human Nature", with the remix reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Great video, check out the new demo-leak " Dream Away ", it`s incredible with a very similar sound, despite being a VHS camera-quality tape recorded from speakers, it feels like an antenna sending a very strong signal into your head via quantum as well, I guess. The actual meaning of Human Nature is about wanderlust and being in love with the City, especially when it takes on a life of its own at night. It's the CITY that calls to him after dark with "sweet seducing sighs," beckoning him out to the streets; away, perhaps, even from someone waiting for him at home. ("'Why, why does he do me that way?'") The sights, the smells, the sounds: he bathes his senses in the City. "That girl" he sees is just a small part of the night experience, not the point of it. It's The Street that he dreams of not The Girl, or A Girl, or even The Game. The track mirros to me MJ’s life so much I feel if you could pick one song that truly embodies the essence of normalcy MJ wanted throughout his entire adulthood it’ll be this song in specific Long Live The King Of Music Forever!😇🥹🙌🏽👑💞🌟(If you ever do any performances of “Human Nature” I’m sure you’ve gotten suggestions to do the 1988 Wembley performance but also do the This Is It Rehearsal of Human Nature it’s phenomenal how even at 50 MJ’s vocals still are flawless etc and he moves super smooth he never lost the magic I feel honey would she’d tears to that performance seriously)

But His Wembley performance was the best in my opinion.
Yup, Human Nature is definitely the favorite of many of the more seasoned fans! The way he sings the “why’s” nearing the end is positively angelic. 💫 (Especially in the live performance)The song is like a hug on a starry summer night.
Definitely in my Thriller top 3! And it was actually co-written by a guy who did most of the Carpenters' biggest hits! Some of their songs have a very similar feel lyrically to this one (magical/nostalgic) regardless of the different style. If Michael had someone work for him it was always someone whose craft he admired. Not only a genius himself but also so humble and appreciative of others. ☺ One of the co-writer's other songs - Carpenters' Top Of The World is one of my forever favorites. It always makes me feel so carefree and happy listening to it.

Plus the lyrics reminded me of Michael. It’s such a huge part of his personality to find immense joy and beauty in the smallest things. Like he once said in an interview - every time he sees a butterfly, a sunset and thinks "God, that's beautiful, thank you".
As for the actual song, you gave such a great interpretation! It’s so true but I never really thought of that. Well, now I like the song even more. Thanks! 🦋 It’s such a sad thing to be surrounded by people and still be alone. Like you said, everyone saw him either as a money making machine, a god or worst case a freak. That’s why he befriended children. Only they truly saw an actual normal human being in him.

I just love how appreciative MJ was at the smallest and most genuine things in life. So much of his life was lived on stage that it saddens me that he wasn't always able to just sit back and see the world on a normal stage. But, it does warm our hearts to know that every time he was able to sit back and appreciate the many "normal" things we take for granted, it always stuck with him. He always held it close to his heart.

💖💖Been so excited for this one! One of my alltime favourite MJ songs......its honestly just magical! I actually even love the SWV song 'Right here' (human nature edit) from 1994 which samples Michaels voice from this song- such a good song too! I heard the SWV song before i knew it was Michaels voice in the song, and it was always his part of the songs chorus that i loved most, so technically 'Human Nature' is the first MJ song i ever heard at the age of 6, even before hearing Thriller :)
