The source of Bruce Prichard's heat with Jerry Jarrett is really quite simple. In a shoot interview, Jerry Jarrett said that he told Bruce that if Vince went to jail, Bruce would be out of a job. To quote Jerry Jarrett from the shoot interview he did, "I told him up there one day, Why does Pat have you here? He said, what do you mean? I said, you don't ever contribute anything. What's your purpose? He said, well, what's yours? Well, if Vince goes to the pokey, your ass is going to be out of work, cause I'm gonna be in charge. And so, I guess it's still a carry over from that". So Jerry told Bruce when he was working there that if he ends up in charge, he's going to be firing him. I don't know about you, but if someone where I work told me they were going to fire me if they ever got to be in charge, I'd be making fun of them and running them down every chance I got too. Jerry threatened Bruce's job. That's where the heat comes from. I don't think Jerry should have said that. He should have just bided his time. Oh well. But that's what I think is the source of the heat between Bruce and Jerry.

@Strigorvious Dregorous I'm not defending the entertainment value coming from WWF's product in the early 90s and perhaps that Memphis stuff would have been a better watch from both your and my perspective.
But Vince was catering to a specific audience and it was not an audience that wanted 70s Memphis. He wasn't catering to us.
So the fact that Corny thinks that they would have better off sticking to a regional flavour from 20 years back and presenting it to *that* audience makes me question his views.

@MemphoWrasslin1 I'm completely with you on the general sentiment.
I like my wrestling to be on the sports, big match atmosphere side. Basically I like fixed-finish fighting with charisma and microphones segments.
For this particular piece, it's a lot funnier to just forget all of that and all of what you said (which I actually agree with fully) and just take the piss out of Corny, Jarrett and Memphis.

I'm sure Jerry Jarrett was a genius in the 70s-80s and he probably was a very smart businessman when it came to creating a front office (Vince's specialty) but the most recent example we have of Jerry Jarrett's brilliance is 2002 TNA. I can't see Jerry ever taking over WWF from Vince, and I do think Jerry Jarrett's best move was giving control to Jerry Lawler who's still successful running shows to this day.

    • @williamflowers9435

Jarrett was successful back in the age of people being gullible enough to think wrestling is real.

I usually like Bruce Pritchard, because I grew up in Houston TX, and I remember his brother Tom Pritchard wrestling here when I was a kid...I, however, feel compelled to respond to Mr. Pritchard that when Andy Kaufman was going around to the various territories trying to make a spot for himself, according to the historical record he went to New York, NO-GO...He went to Atlanta, NO-GO, he went to Memphis, and Jerry Jarret and Eddie Marlin were skeptical, because they were from the OLD-SCHOOL psychology of PROTECT the BUSINESS, but after further consideration they let it go with Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler...This would prove to be a turning point in history and made the events of a local wrestling promotion, a national event, and further making Jerry Lawler a national figure where before he was little known outside his home territory of Memphis...We how grew up here in Houston TX, with little exposure to Memphis wrestling certainly never heard of Jerry Lawler before the Andy Kaufman PILE-DRIVER incident, so I will have to :RESPECTIVELY" call out Mr. Pritchard, as a fan, not as a working insider, who learned about Memphis Wrestling from the Andy Kaufman incident...I will recommend he talk to Jim Cornnett more about the talent swap that brought Jim Corrnett and many others to Mid-South. This talent swap freshened up Mid South, so Jerry Jarrett must have had some idea on how to spot talent that would take what people learned in his promotion, to other territories and evolve into main event talent...Jim Corrnett and the Midnight Express, The Rock and Roll Express, Stan Lane and Steven Kern the FAB'S, the knock-off joke, that would evolve into, THE FANTASTICS, as well as older talent that kept going Tommy WILDFIRE Rich, Austin Idol, Hulk Hogan worked through Memphis with Lawler for a time before WWF...The list goes on...

Bruce has a point. Can anyone honestly believe that Vince would allow anyone to take over his business? Would this also be the first time someone was confused over what Vince had in mind for them when they came in? Jarrett in 94, Watts in 95, even Russo in 02. Not to mention endless wrestlers who didn’t work out. Vince vaguely says one thing and they hear another. Everyone thinks they’re going to have total control and run the show before Vince cuts their nuts off and they go home. Cornette even says it here: Jarrett was an old school territory guy who couldn’t work on the big time stage of WWE.
