      Bruce from what a lot has said that he has worked with Vince Mcmahon off and on through the late 80's - 2000's cause Vince has a vision of how he want wrestlers and his shows to be and Bruce try to create it, defends and goes along with whatever Vince ideas are regardless of how bad they maybe.
      Since 2019 after WWE got rid of Eric Bischoff then later Bruce took his place to be in charge of the creative team on Smackdown and now since WWE / Vince Mcmahon fired Paul Heyman due to low ratings a few days ago as part of creative director team on Raw and to remain a ring personality / advocate of Brock Lesnar.... Now Bruce will be running creative team of storylines of both Raw and Smackdown shows.

      Oh really? So a dead zombie coming in as a professional wrestler in the form of the Undertaker is ok but a guy who is cocky and was given the name Red Rooster because of it is not? Case in point, Terry Taylor sucked. Mark Callaway has talent and he's still there to this day because of it. Terry Taylor could and should have used it as a nickname instead of acting like an actual rooster. Latin American fighters are sometimes called "gallos" because they fight aggressively like fighting roosters but they don't act like roosters.

      @georgethemaninmalsteele515 7 лет назад +6

      Pikkon89 ....the undertaker was pushed because he was a talented WWE CREATION....Terry Taylor was a talented wrestler who wasn't pushed because WWE didn't take an unknown Terry Taylor like they took an unknown Mark Calloway, as a wrestling fan you should know that Vince McMahon shits on anything he didn't create, Vince McMahon couldn't control Terry either, Terry Taylor would have gotten over just fine as himself, he drew sold out 70k crowds at the Tokyo dome and in every major territory long before he came to the WWE

    • @brianm2881
      @brianm2881 7 лет назад +2

      That's not true about Vince shitting on what he did not create. Take Mick Foley for example - After Vince pitched Mick the awful 'Mason the Mutilator' gimmick, Foley quickly counter-pitched with Mankind and Vince went with it. Then, Vince found out about Dude Love, Foley's teenage wrestling persona. Vince loved it and went with it. Then, he even let him be Cactus Jack. The same is true for a lot of successful WWE guys - they're initially given given something bland or crappy, but then they either tweak that or do something else entirely, and Vince goes with it, if it's getting over.
      Terry Taylor didn't do that. He just accepted the gimmick, never spoke up about his dissatisfaction with it, didn't try to show that 'Terrific' Terry Taylor would be better for business, and for that people remember him as a crowing jackass. I suppose the problem was that just because some wrestler had a good career in the territories, they expected the world to be handed to them on a silver platter when they came to WWE.

    • @bluhmer1990
      @bluhmer1990 6 лет назад +3

      Brian In Fingal - You are misinformed. Foley had had backers in WWE like Jim Ross, who kept pestering Vince over and over to sing Foley and to give him a shot. In fact, Foley has said that Vince let Foley do his Gimmick because he thought Foley would flop and wanted Jim Ross to feel like shit when the guy he backed failed. Unfortunately for Vince, Foley didn't flop at all. But that's it, Vince wanting to be a complete asshole to Jim Ross is why Foley got a chance. Check out Foley's Hell in a Cell stand up if you don't believe me.

    I have to agree with Cornette on this one. This isn't like Undertaker or Doink The Clown, which were both done by two guys who could pull it off. Terry Taylor could not be the Red Rooster, and hell nobody could.
    Of course, then again these were the same creative guys who thought Mantaur and Beaver Clevage were good ideas.

    • @unr3alGaming
      @unr3alGaming 5 лет назад +6

      I believe Mantaur and Beaver Cleavage we're concocted by Vince McMahon and Vince Russo respectively. I don't think Bruce Prichard had a hand in creating either of those characters. Jim Cornette certainly didn't because he said himself that he was handed the role of manager for Mantaur very quickly without being given any warning, and he said on his own podcast that he thought the Beaver Cleavage giving was another stupid and Russo gimmick and he was happier with Chaz Warrington being part of the head bangers as Mosh.

    It's a travesty that a lot of (WWF) wrestling fans' first introduction to Terry Taylor was with that idiotic gimmick. When Taylor made his debut in the WWF, I was expecting to see that vicious heel persona that he had in the UWF/NWA and World Class. Instead he came off as a buffoon with that strutting and squawking, acting like a imbecile who needed Heenan to micromanage everything he did in the ring. All that great work that Taylor did in the years leading up this got wiped out in an instant.
    Even I didn't know what this "Red Rooster" thing was supposed to be about until it was explained a few years ago. How does one make that gimmick work with a name like that and with no explanation?! "Red Roostered" should be the wrestling equivalent of "jumped the shark."

    Terry Taylor was cocky. True. But they didn't put him on TV and have announcers go "man, he's so cocky", they literally named him The Red Rooster. In an era where they had bulldogs, killer bees, young stallions, "the birdman", and the rest of the zoo represented in human form. He was called The Red Rooster and they had him actually crow LIKE A FUCKING REAL LIFE ROOSTER. There is nowhere for that gimmick to go, I don't care what the thought process behind it was. Where he then proceeds to mount a feeble attempt to create a supporting case for this ridiculous chicken gimmick. All because it was Vince's idea. The reasons he gave made no since because the fans you nothing about Taylor's personality behind the scenes. For that matter, most of these guys were cocky and arrogant. Bruce continues to prove he was nothing more than a tool for Vince.

    Gonna give this one to Corny. That was as convoluted an explanation (or rationalization) for a character choice as I’ve ever heard and if you really thought Terry just needed to go out there and be himself, why would you need to call him a damn Red Rooster
    Dumb dumb dumb

    WWE has always had a two-faced logic.
    When something turns out great(Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold) it's "Vince McMahon is a promoting genius!"
    When something flops (Ultimate Warrior, Red Rooster, etc) they blame the talent for not getting it over. As if they had no part in creating the character, gimmick, storyline, or producing the promos...

    Red Rooster, Isaac Yankum DDS, The Common Man, The “Natural”, Goldust, etc...all these bullshit gimmicks given to wrestlers who were stars in other organizations. I’d have been REALLY hesitant to come to WWF given that. I could only imagine what they’d do to Jay Lethal

      Yeah he was still over as fuck. His son was also over as fuck when he was Goldust. You have to have the mentality of “I don’t care what they try to do to me. I’m gonna go out there and still make money”

    I... believe Bruce to a point on some of these gimmicks but... If you wanted to give a guy like Terry Taylor a cocky, arrogant character makeover, that's totally fine. But they didn't have to call him god damn "Red Rooster" lmao. I mean, that's just beating people over the head with it. And you KNOW it was Vince/the WWF that gave him that hair and forced him to make rooster references in his promos. THAT stuff makes me think it was totally a rib on Terry haha. Just look at the character... it was obviously destined to fail. Who could take that at all seriously? lol

    I get where BP is coming from, but I never realised that TT was (allegedly) given the Red Rooster gimmick because of his "cocky" behaviour. And the reason is that in my opinion he wasn't presented as being arrogant or a ladies man at all. He would cut promos and walk out to the ring with this ridiculous outfit and theme music that would make any rational person think he is a character designed to be popular with the younger generation of fans, Ala the Bushwackers.

    Had Taylor been brought out as a cocky heel or a cocky face that turned up all the elements to show his cocky nature, and THEN had his foe call him a rooster or had the announcers do it months after his debut, THEN he could have not only gotten over with it, he could have taken it to a highly competitive level.
    Instead he was called the red rooster from the very beginning of his run, and no context was given. He was killed before he could have a chance. It was bad creative on the part of WWF/E.

    I know it's an old video, but something that has to be mentioned, and perhaps others have, is that Bruce's entire argument falls apart when you look at the way they presented Terry. It wasn't just that he didn't embrace the gimmick. It was also that they put him with Heenan, which would normally be a good thing, in an angle where Heenan was trying to prove that he was such a great manager that he could take a sub-par or average wrestler(the Rooster in this case) and lead him to success. So it wasn't just the gimmick. They sabotaged Terry the whole way, and maybe he deserved it. Who knows? But Bruce is full of hot air on this one, but what else is new?

  • @b1nostrumpet

    nah it probably could’ve worked. while it was probably a rib, it had potential if terry didn’t think he had to act like an actual rooster for it to get over
